What is the Challenge?
The Shelton Leadership Center outreach programs focus on intergenerational
values based leadership development within NC State University and now in
alliance with UNITEC in Honduras. The values based leadership cornerstones
are honesty, integrity, diversity, compassion, and social responsibility.
The Center’s strategies to promote the development of values-based leaders
locally and globally, are linked to the following objectives:
• Youth Development
• Executive Leadership Education
• Integration of Values-Based Leadership throughout UNITEC
• Leadership Enrichment Experiences
All of this during a Leadership Challenge program that lasts 7 days.

Develop General Hugh Shelton’s values-based leadership principles of honesty, integrity,
compassion, social responsibility and diversity.
Assess baselined leadership skills and preferred practices as well as learn how to apply a 360
degree reflective model with the incorporation of assigned leadership roles and
responsibilities during the week.
Identify important leadership traits and competencies such as interpersonal skills, leadership
styles, needs and skills assessment, teamwork, goal orientation, motivating others, personal
presence and public speaking, ethical decision making and changing behaviors.
Engage in a youth-adult mentoring civic engagement model to enhance appreciation for
social responsibility and intergenerational respect.
Develop and practice skills related to self and team reflection for future applications with the
ultimate intent of continuous personal-quality improvement.
Prepare a leadership self-development plan for accomplishment of short-term objectives and
life-long goals.

Challenge conformation:
The Challenge is developed in 7 days: July 6th to 10th, 13th and
14th at the UNITEC campus. These are the daily topics:

Activities Handbook
Activity materials.
Lunches and snacks for the 7 days of the
challenge.
Challenge Certificate and pin.
T-Shirts to use during the Challenge.
Using UNITEC’s buses as transportation during
the 7 days of the Challenge.
The schedule will be from 8am until 6pm during
the following dates: July 6th to 10th, 13th and
14th.
Once you fill in the application we will send you a
confirmation email so you can proceed to pay
at UNITEC.
