March Madness is typically synonymous with high
levels of activity, excitement, and surprises. Pelican Marsh
GC experienced much of this during our golf season and
it all culminated during the month of March.
It has been an exciting golf season, and we feel it has
gone too fast! As a professional staff, we would like to
sincerely thank each of our members for their support of
Andy Scrivner our golf events, as well as supporting your golf shop. For
those members leaving for the summer, please travel safe
and have a great summer. We look forward to your return.
For those members residing in Naples, please remember that your
golf shop will remain open six days per week and will be available to assist
with making reciprocal golf arrangements. While there are a few available
reciprocal clubs during the second half of April, official reciprocals begin
Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The final reciprocal list will be available by the last
week of April.
Finally, please join me in recognizing our major tournament champions
from this season.

From the Greens
Director of Golf Course Operations, Brook Maxwell
As the Pelican Marsh golfing season winds to
an end, it’s time for the Golf Course Maintenance
Department to switch into Summer mode. Monday morning April 16th, 2012, marks the start of
the much anticipated Greens and Tees Renovation.
Many hours of planning and detail have been carried out during the last three years to ensure quality success with the project. As you have seen, the
Brook Maxwell proposed renovation areas have been killed thoroughly (besides the putting surfaces) and the final
few pieces of contractor machinery will be on property this week. The
irrigation materials required have arrived and all facets of the preparation are complete. There is certainly a “buzz” in the air around the
Golf Course Maintenance Department and our team is well prepared
and eager to begin. Our primary goal is to exceed all member expectations and present the membership with a “magical” product upon
re-opening.
During the renovation, you will be informed and educated constantly as to the progress of the work. E-blasts with accompanying
pictures will be the primary means of communication. Please also feel
free to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns in regards to
any area of the golf course throughout the summer.
This historic time at Pelican Marsh is about to begin. In the Golf
Course Maintenance Industry, it does not get any better than this!!!

From the Club Manager
Club Manager, David May
There was a recent survey given to Private Club
members across the country. One of the questions
asked “What is it that you regard as the biggest reason that you dine at your club as opposed to a local
restaurant?” with five possible responses. The number
one answer, by an almost 3 to 1 margin, was a sense
David May
of belonging, of feeling welcome when you walk
through the door. This is something that we always keep in mind and
discuss as we go about everyday operations at the Club. And we have
to ask ourselves, how can we best make you feel like you are in your
“second” home?
It begins with assembling a staff who understand that they are in the
service business, what it means to deliver exceptional customer service,
and who enjoy doing it. I have often referred to it as a “server’s heart.” It
is something that sets this group of individuals apart from some in other
industries. This “server’s heart” is not a necessity in other careers. You
don’t have to have it to be a world class architect. But in the hospitality
industry, especially in the private club industry, it is. If you want to be
the best, you must want to make people feel at home and that you are
providing an atmosphere of comfort and sense of belonging. And that
is what I believe the staff assembled here at Pelican Marsh has, and it is
what sets them apart from other clubs. It’s what makes them the best.
I believe it begins with the hiring process. You hire the right people,
people with personality; people who can deliver the members with the
experience that they have come to expect. It is also very important that
when you do find those people, you make sure to keep them. We are
very fortunate at this Club to have assembled a staff that looks forward
to returning year after year, especially in a SWFL environment that can
be somewhat transient. That more than anything is a testament to the
team here at Pelican Marsh; who enjoy working together; and to the
respect that they receive from the membership.
From the Chef
Executive Chef, Marv Messenger
I hope that you had the chance to join us at
our End of Season Dining Under the Stars event.
A variety of food stations set under the stars with
terrific entertainment wound up what has been a
fantastic winter for all of us! Attendees sampled sushi,
Marv Messenger enjoyed giant cocktail Shrimp, Asian style barbecued
ribs, rack of Lamb, and roast tenderloin of Beef just
to name a few of the delights that were served. Members can finish
out the month of April by coming to our Happy Hour events each
Wednesday, our Prix Fixe dinners on Fridays, our Sunday Breakfast
Buffet each Sunday, and of course our Café Dining Sunday evenings.
As we get into the month of May, remember to bring your mother
to the Club for our annual Mother’s Day buffet on May 13th. Our
hours of operation will shift a bit after that point. We will continue to
offer, on a rotating basis, our Wednesday night Happy Hour and our
Friday evening Prix Fixe dinner for your enjoyment. Watch for a few
menu changes as the summer progresses, as we may change our offerings
throughout the summer to keep it fun and interesting!
