Sunday after Easter – Feast of Divine Mercy
Saint Faustina, née Maria Faustyna Kowalska (1905-1938),
was a nun of the Our Lady of Mercy Order (Poland), an
order specialized in taking care of young women in trouble. She entered this convent when she was 20 years of
age and she wanted to devote her life to imitate Our Lord
Jesus when He said: “Be merciful as your heavenly Father
is merciful” (Lk 6:36). Our Lord Jesus had appeared many
times to Faustina in 1930’s and revealed to her to her of
this Divine Mercy; These revelations were written in her
book: Diary: Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, Divine Mercy
in My Soul (1987).

Our Lord Jesus had expressed to Faustina that He wanted
the Sunday after Easter will be the Feast of Divine Mercy. This feast was celebrated the first time in 1937 - one
year before her death - at her convent; the Catholic dioceses in Poland have began this devotion since
1970’2. When Faustina was canonized on 30 April 2000 the first saint in 21st Century - this devotion has begun to
spread throughout the world.
This devotion was summarized in the following:
(1) Ask for His mercy;
(2) Be merciful because if you asked for God’s mercy then we should be merciful to others;
(3) Trust in Our Lord Jesus completely; and
(4) This devotion will save you when you die and at
the final judgment. The Divine Mercy Prayer was
summed up with these words: “Jesus, I trust in
You”.
This prayer was illustrated with the image of Jesus’ open
heart with overwhelmingly shining light from His
heart. Our Lord Jesus had shown Faustina this heart. She
and her confessor had worked with an artist to paint this
image because on the Cross, Our Lord Jesus had given His
forgiveness for all sins when the soldier pierced His
heart.
All among us, who practice this devotion in this Divine
Mercy Sunday will receive the indulgence, i.e. if we die
this moment - will be admitted into heaven immediately
(Decree Misericors et miserator, 5 May 2000).

the 39th Annual ODCCW Conference scheduled
for Tuesday, April 19 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Huntington Beach. The event will feature a
breakout session with three workshops. Sister
Barbra Ostheimer, SND, will speak in the spirituality workshop on "Becoming Who God Calls Me to
Be", Dr. Phil Johnston will speak in the leadership
workshop on "Women in Leadership", and Fr. Dan
Wilder will speak in the service workshop on “Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations”. Harpist, Sara Hsiao, will perform during

COÄNG ÑOAØN THAÙNH GIUSE
Chủ Nhật sau Lễ Phục Sinh – Lễ Lòng Chúa Thương Xót
Chị Thánh Faustina, tên thật là Maria Faustyna Kowalska (1905-1938), là một nữ tu
dòng Đức Mẹ Từ Bi ở Ba-Lan (Poland), một nhà dòng chuyên lo cho những phụ nữ
trong hoàn cảnh khó khăn. Chị đi tu lúc 20 tuổi và chị muốn tận hiến đời mình để sống
theo lời Chúa: “Các con hãy thương xót như Cha các con ở trên trời là đấng đầy lòng
xót thương” (Lc 6:36). Chúa Giêsu hiện ra nhiều lần trong thập niên 1930 để mặc khải
cho chị về lòng thương xót của Chúa; những mặc khải này được chép lại trong
quyểnNhật Ký, Thánh Maria Faustina Kowalska, Lòng Thương Xót Diệu Kỳ Trong
Hồn Tôi (1987).
Chúa Giêsu đã tỏ cho Thánh Faustina rằng Ngài muốn chủ nhật ngay sau lễ Phục Sinh
là ngày lễ kính về sự sùng mộ này. Lễ lòng Chúa Thương Xót đã được áp dụng đầu
tiên năm 1937 - một năm trước khi Thánh Faustina chết - tại nhà dòng của chị thánh;
các giáo phận nước Ba-Lan đã bắt đầu lòng sùng kính này từ thập niên 1970. Khi Chị
Thánh Faustina được phong thánh ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 2000 - vị thánh đầu tiên trong
thế kỷ 21 - lòng sùng kính này đã được phát động ra toàn thế giới.
Lòn sùng kính này được tóm tắt như sau:
(1) Hãy xin Chúa thương xót chúng ta;
(2) Hãy thực thi lòng thương xót qua cuộc sống của mình vì nếu chúng ta xin
Chúa tha tội cho chúng ta như chúng ta cũng tha cho kẻ khác;
(3) Hãy tin tưởng hoàn toàn vào Chúa vì chúng ta cứ tin thì sẽ được; và
(4) Lòng sùng kính này sẽ cứu chúng ta khi chúng ta chết và trong ngày tận thế.
Kinh Lòng Thương Xót Chúa được cô đọng hóa với lời này: “Lậy Chúa Giêsu, con tin tưởng ở nơi Ngài”.
Lời kinh này được làm sáng tỏ với hình ảnh Chúa Giêsu với quả tim rộng mở và ánh sáng chán hòa chói ngời từ trái tim
đó. Thánh Faustina đã được Chúa Giêsu cho thấy quả tim này, và Ngài đã cùng với cha linh hướng để nhờ họa sĩ vẽ ra hình
ảnh đó vì trên thánh giá – Chúa Giêsu đã ban hết mọi ơn tha thứ khi người lính dùng giáo mà đâm thủng trái tim Ngài.
Ai trong chúng ta tỏ lòng sùng kính Lòng Chúa Thương Xót trong chủ nhật này sẽ được ơn Đại Xá, nghĩa là nếu chúng ta chết
trong lúc này thì sẽ được lên thiên đàng lập tức với điều kiện là chúng ta xưng tội va rước lễ trong chủ nhật này (Văn Kiện
Misericors et miserator, 5 tháng 5, 2000).

DOMINGO DE LA DINA MISERICORDIA
La devoción a la Divina Misericordia es un llamado de Dios a los hombres que regresen
a Él, que confíen en Él. Esta devoción, no es nueva, en realidad fue conocida desde los
tiempos de Cristo. “¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!” (Mt 18, 38). Vemos
como el ciego confiaba en que el Señor lo podía sanar y le gritaba que tenga misericordia de él. Reconoce su ceguera y confía en Cristo el único que lo puede sanar. El mensaje de la misericordia es para todos los hombres, es también un mensaje para nuestros
tiempos. El Santo Padre, Juan Pablo II dijo en la Canonización de Sta. Faustina: “no es
un mensaje nuevo, pero se puede considerar un don de iluminación especial, que nos
ayuda a revivir más intensamente el evangelio de la Pascua, para ofrecerlo como un
rayo de luz a los hombres y mujeres de nuestro tiempo”.
DEFINICIÓN DE LA MISERICORDIA DE DIOS
La misericordia de Dios se puede describir como la respuesta de Dios que viene en auxilio de sus criaturas débiles. Ninguna criatura es merecedora de la misericordia de Dios,
sino es una gracia que Dios concede gratuitamente a sus hijos, por su inmenso amor.
EL PECADO ES LA PEOR MISERIA DEL HOMBRE Nuestra miseria es el pecado y por
eso el hombre al ser pecador, es también considerado como miserable. Pero hay una distinción muy importante entre
la miseria y el que es miserable, y es, que Dios aborrece al pecado pero ama al pecador, ama al hombre miserable y
débil. Este amor con cual Dios ama al hombre se define como Misericordia. La misericordia no es precisamente compasión o perdón, estos son más bien los efectos de la misericordia. En la lengua hebrea significa “rahamin” y se define
como “un sentimiento que nace del seno maternal o de las entrañas del corazón de un padre”. Is 49
La misericordia de Dios es un atributo de Dios que solo existe para sus criaturas. Es decir para Dios poder ejercer misericordia debe existir miseria. Como explica San Francisco de Sales, “Aunque Dios no hubiese creado al hombre Él
siempre fuese la caridad perfecta, pero en realidad no sería misericordioso, pues la misericordia se puede ejercitar
solamente sobre la miseria... Nuestra miseria es el trono de la Misericordia de Dios”. Dice el Santo Cura de Ars: “La
misericordia de Dios es como un torrente desbordado que arrastra los corazones a su paso.” No lo merece nadie sin
embargo es accesible a todos. Por lo tanto si Dios tiene misericordia de nosotros también nosotros seamos misericordiosos con el prójimo.
