Exciting Things are going on
here at Fox Run!!
The Banquet Room renovations are coming along
nicely.
The Final Touches are going in now!!
We have already had a couple of events in the room
and everyone had great compliments on how it
looks and feels!!
Greetings from the Grounds
Happy Easter and Hello Spring!!
The grass is definitely growing now. We have applied our pre emergent chemicals to green
banks, tee banks, and fairways. As well, we applied a post emergent to all tee & green banks
for Poa control. You will see the guys out regularly mowing fairways, rough, etc. from here
on. As well, we will be removing the broken Willow tree from #14 and replacing it with a
Dawn Redwood this week. Dawn Redwood trees are fairly fast growing and help to control
wet areas like willows. The Dawn Redwood will have a longer lifespan than a willow tree#9
will receive a tree on the right side soon to replace the one that died at the end of last year
We look forward to a good year for the turf as we have come out of winter in good shape.
One more thing - I would like to personally ask each member to fill their divot and at least
one more as we head into the season. It is important that we leave the golf course in better
shape than we found it when we play.
Thank You
Tony Bisbee

Nickel & Dime Quarterly
Vol. IV April 2015
By Seamus Sandbagger & Shanksway Toomany
Greetings and salutations golfing fans… Blossoms are blooming, hope springs eternal and Fox
Run Country Club is gearing up for a beautiful spring season. The Fox Run Senior Men's Golf
Association is enjoying a renaissance and we were encouraged when almost 50 players teed it
up on March 24th. So much going on...
Amazing Ace... Don Caldwell jarred a majestic 6 iron on the 15th hole on Tuesday March 24.
This resulted in Don (aka Sid Jackson's identical / evil twin) getting a $152.00 check from the
Melvin Younts Hole in One Fund. Reminder to all Senior golfers, you owe the Treasurer $2.00
for the hole in one fund. This means you Melvin.
March 7 was the Fox Run Spring Fling and Oyster Roast. A lovely day, huge turn-out, good golf, great
food and music and the occasional adult beverage were the order of the day. Senior golfers who finished
in the money were Jim Glenn, Dennis Baldree, Robert Massingill, Van Caldwell, Dan Dionne, Gary
Richardson, Bill Bell, Jerry Woltman, Grey Burdette and Henry Stephens. Dennis Baldree also had closest
to the pin on #11 at 4 feet. Way to go guys.
Senior Texas step-back and lunch... On March 17th the seniors conducted a tournament and lunch with
44 participants. A great day of golf, lunch and equal opportunity needling was had by all. Thanks to
Social Chairman Bill Rinkavage for his efforts. Winning teams were present and accounted for but due to
the amount of Guinness and other beverages consumed on St. Patrick ’s Day, Seamus and Shanksway
don’t remember who won the money. Only Kidding….
First Flight Low Gross: D. Meyer, L. Gunnells, D. Ewing and C. Realbuto.
First Flight Low Net: D. Gardner, D. Dionne, W. Griffith, J. DeMarco.
Second Flight Low Gross: R. Malo, B. Schricthe, R. Curley and H. Stephens.
2nd Flight Low Net: J. Smith, J. Glenn, G. Richardson and E. Ritchie.
Good Playing men!!
The Fox Run Senior Men's Golf Association would like to welcome all the new members who have joined
Fox Run since the new membership program began. We'd like to welcome Jerry Stroud, Durden Collins,
Kirk Doss, Andy Roswold and Ralph Archer to Senior Men’s group, you might regret it but we'll have a
few laughs. If you want to play with our group and are 55 and older please come join us. We play on
Tuesday and Friday mornings. Starting April 15 tee time moves to 9:30am! Check in the pro shop for
info.
After a lot of rain, misery and missed rounds of golf in January and February it looks like the good
weather is upon us and our golf course is starting to look very good, Thumbs up to David, Len, Tony and
his crew… New Cabinet: the Senior Men purchased a locking cabinet to retain and secure business
records, documents and other necessities…Nominating Committee, Any Senior Association members
interested in being on the Nominating Committee should see President Bob Malo. The positions of
President, Vice President and Secretary will be up for election at the annual meeting in September.

We would be remiss if we did not recognize the wonderful job done by the ladies in the grill room. Every
event or regular day at the club, Georgina and Amanda are taking care of all our food and beverage
needs with grace, style and aplomb. Thank You Ladies, way to go! The senior lunch on March 17 was
awesome!
And now a few words from our editorial board… We are playing lift clean and place through the green
until further notice. We are still only playing winter rules in your own fairway. Root and Rock rule means
you get relief from the Root or Rock not the trees. Relief from a cart path is to the side closest to the
ball not closest to the fairway. Options from Red stakes, 2 club lengths from the point where the ball last
crossed the margin of the hazard, stroke and distance, which means go back to where the ball was last
hit from and hit another ball, keeping the point where the ball last crossed the hazard, extend a straight
line back keeping flagstick and the last margin point in line, you can also go to the opposite side of the
hazard an equal distance from the hole. If there is ever a question about a ruling, play 2 balls and then
check with Dave or Len. Finally, Casual Water, as defined by the USGA, "As any temporary accumulation
of water outside of a water hazard that is visible before or after the player takes his stance." Relief is the
nearest point no closer to the hole, and must be complete relief. This could move a player from the
rough to the fairway. Since this is a gentleman’s game and we are reputedly gentleman, occasionally,
you know where this is going… let’s play the game the right way. Remember: Know the rules, if you do
not have a rule book you can go to the USGA site and obtain one for the cost of shipping and handling.
If you are not a member of the USGA, we suggest that you join. The USGA is the governing body for the
sport of Golf in the USA. The USGA governs the way the game is played in the USA and works with the
Royal and Ancient Golf Club to maintain the rules of the game for the common good of the sport.
Until we meet again or tee it up, may all your drives be long, majestic and findable and all your putts
settle in the bottom of the cup.
