Dear customer!
This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of author and
women’s activist Camilla Collett. The event is being celebrated
with a stamp issue reproducing Collett’s portrait, and the front
cover of her most famous novel “Amtmandens døtre”. The novel
decribes a tragic love affair and is esteemed as Norway’s first
literary work of social realism.
This year celebrates 100 years since Norwegian women gained
the right to vote in parliamentary elections. We have selected
Norway’s first female MP, Anna Rogstad as a symbol to represent the many women who fought for the rights that today
we take for granted. Arild Yttri was the artist and engraver for
both stamps.
The National Year of Language 2013 is a national celebration
of Norwegian linguistic diversity. Two of the most significant
events in this Year of Language are the celebration of Ivar
Aasen’s 200th Anniversary and the 100th anniversary of ‘Det
Norske Teatret’. Stian Hole has designed both stamps, and
many of you will recognise Lasse Kolstad from his performance
in of “Fiddler on the Roof”, the most successful production in
the Theatre’s history.
The National Stamp Day this year is October 4th. On this day
four stamps depicting Norwegian bands will be issued. Which
bands, and the design of the stamps, will be made public both in
the press and on posten.no and the end of September.
