PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
DIARY DATES
PARRAMATTA CITY COUNCIL
RESPONSE
Parramatta City Council has responded to
the letter I sent to them in April regarding
the school’s disappointment at their action
regarding traffic management and
pedestrian safety surrounding our school.
The main points they addressed are as
follows:
 Traffic & parking conditions
around CPS be reviewed after
Keeler St development is
occupied
 Trees in Keeler St be trimmed to
improve pedestrian visibility.
 ‘No Stopping’ signs erected on
both sides of Keeler St walkway
through to school
 ‘No Stopping’ signs erected either
side of pre – school driveway
 PCC follow up with RMS re
crossing supervisor for Rickard St
& Flashing Lights
 Our request for ‘bus bay’ in front
of Library, was rejected by
council as it is on school property
– suggested we approach DEC
On behalf of our students & community, I
will continue to push for initiatives that
maximise the safety of pedestrians and
motorists surrounding our school.

BOOK CLUB
Issue 4 Book Club flyers were distributed by
class teachers last Thursday 29th May and are
handed out one week prior to collection. So that
means collection day for Issue 4 will be on
Thursday 5th June, 2014.
Money will only be collected on this date.
Students are to take their book club order in an
envelope directly to the Library on the Thursday.
Please use an envelope with name, class, total and
BOOK CLUB clearly marked on the front.
If you have any concerns regarding how to
complete the order form or methods of payment,
please don’t hesitate to see me in the library.
There are two issues per term for the duration of
the year. As soon as the orders are returned, they
will be sent home with the students.
OVERDUE BOOKS
Just a friendly reminder that there a quite a few
students who borrowed earlier this term but have
not returned their library books. If one week is
not long enough to complete a book simply return
the book on your library day and reborrow it for
another week. Otherwise, please return the book
as soon as possible as they are now overdue and
other students could be waiting to borrow them.
Overdue notices will be going home over the
coming week.

It is a great idea for all the children of
Carlingford Public School to wear their pyjamas
to school this Wednesday.
Firstly, when you wake up all you have to do
is roll out of bed and you are almost ready
because you are dressed for the day. Just put
on your sneakers and Mum won’t have to nag
you to get dressed.
Secondly, it will be lots of fun to come to
school wearing your pyjamas.
Thirdly, by bringing a gold coin donation for
wearing your pyjamas to school, you will be
helping other people. The money raised will go to
support Stewart House, a charity that helps
children.
Now you have three excellent reasons for
wearing your pyjamas to school on Wednesday
the 4th of June, so join in the fun.

HELP NEEDED
ITEMS OF INTEREST
Too sick for school?
As the cold weather hits, so do the winter bugs.
It’s often hard to know whether to send your child
to school or let them stay home to recover,
especially when that means an adult cancelling
work. For safety's sake, if your child seems
unwell you should always keep them home from
school and seek medical advice.
School A to Z and the NSW Health have created
an at-a-glance chart to help answer your questions
about common childhood illness and how long
sick kids need to miss school. Find it by typing

Mental maths strategies
We teach children a range of different strategies
to add and subtract numbers. By showing them
several methods for solving maths questions,
we’re helping them to look for patterns. All this
builds a good sense of “number” which means
they understand the relationships between
different numbers and why different ways to add
and subtract work well. The goal is that your
child will understand many ways to approach a
maths problem and will be able to choose a way
that makes the most sense to them. School A to Z
has a lot of resources, including help sheets on
mental maths strategies, here :
