ACCREDITATION
Blanchard Valley Center, your
Hancock County Board of Developmental
Disabilities, recently was awarded

accreditation certification for five years.
Presidents Day
The award was given through the Ohio
Holiday
Department of Developmental Disabilities
for completing the requirements to

Disability Connection newsletter recently
posted an article about emergency prepardeness.
We will be reviewing the tips from the newsletter
in our upcoming issues of The Star.
Disability.gov offers many resources
for idiividuals with disabilities, their families,
emergency service providers and others. The
site’s Emergency Preparedness section features
information on emergency readiness for
people with disabilities, older adults and
caregivers, as well as resources on how
to make emergency shelters and facilities
acessible, where to get help after a disaster
and more. Check it out.

NEWS FROM AKTION CLUB/HANCOCK SPEAKS OUT
Hancock County’s Aktion Club and Speaks Out are
both participating in a fundraiser to raise month for each
club’s funds. Members are selling Findlay Discount
Cards. There are great discounts from partifipating
businesses, including Ming’s, Domino’s, Bread Kneads,
Royal Buffet, Culver’s and many more. The discount
card sells for $10.00 and our club members receive
100% of the profit. The cards expire Dedember 31,
2014. If you are interested, see a member or contact
Rebecca Maenle at 419-422-6386, ext. 1307.The
next meeting for the Aktion Club and Hancock County
Speaks Out will be Feb. 10, 2014. (Aktion Club at 5:00
pm; food and fun at 5:30 pm; and Speaks Out at 6:00
pm.)
REESE CHOSEN FOR
DSP COUNCIL
Four Direct Support Professionals were
nominated to possibly serve on the DSP Ohio
Council. We are extremely excited that Sarah
Reese, one of our DSPs, was elected to serve.
The DSP Countil is in charge of planning the first
Direct Support Professional Council, which will
be held in April, 2014. In addition to planning,
Council members will also be a source for
recommendations and suggestions for training,
social needs, as
well as involvement
in statewide
conferences.
A total of four DSPs
were nominated:
Lisa Patterson,
Sheryl Grossman,
Ashlee Conley,
and Sarah Reese. Only one DSP was chosen
from the Northwest region for the DSP Council,
Sarah Reese. Congratulations to Sarah and all
nominees!

SKT HOLDS OPEN HOUSE
SKT unveiled its newly designed multi-sensory
playroom by holding an Open House recently. The room
features a 3D mural by artist Kathy Hollinger, solar
systems, and a fully functioning Mission Control Center.
The event was fun and absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!

come check out this great area!
