Note from the Pastor
Parish Calendar
“ Put another nickel in, in the
nickelodeon. All I want is lovin' you and
music, music, music.” Along with, “I Love
You a Bushel and a Peck,” “Cruising
Down the River,” and “Ragg Mopp,”
these are among the very first songs I remember as an
itty, bitty child. “Say it with music, beautiful music...”
And we do. Can you imagine life without music?
When I was a graduate student working with the deaf
community in San Francisco, I met a woman named
Jane Louie who was able to read lips impeccably. I
asked her what she missed most after she went deaf.
Her answer without hesitation, “Music. I still have the
melodies in my head but oh, how I miss hearing them.”
St. Augustine once famously said that (s)he who
sings, prays twice. On a special occasion (Holy
Thursday) when I sing the Eucharistic Prayer, we listen
not only with our head but hear with our heart.
Several months ago when the men of Spirito sang
Kumbaya as a meditation song, the church was utterly
still. It was a moment divine for the Divine was surely
present with us and in us. That’s the power of good
music.
My daddy used to say, “Son, if you can’t be good,
at least be loud.” And I confess that I am. It is not that
I enjoy the sound of my own voice (I am always about
1/16th of a note flat) but I figure that if I can sing out,
you can too. My mother had a terrible voice but she
sang her little heart out at every Mass on every hymn.
She did the church a wonderful service for those
standing around her tried to sing ever louder to drown
out her voice. I’m really big on congregational singing.
When you are in good voice and truly choose to sing
out, the church comes alive.
! So sing, sing your heart out. And watch what
happens.
We are, please God, gently moving into the
fullness of Ordinary Time. It is, as my never ending
mantra says, time to slow down, to listen. Listen to the
music all around you. Listen to the songs in your heart.
Listen to a good symphony. Do nothing else, just sit
there and listen. Listen to your children sing. And then,
sing yourself. It’s music to God’s ears.
In Jesus, the Song of the Father,
(Next week, the sound of silence.)

RE Registrations
We are continuing to take registrations for those
classes where there is still room. Please note that
class lists are filling up and space is limited to
registered parishioners. At this time, Grade 2 is
at capacity at the 3:15 session and Grade 4 and
Grade 7 is closed at the 5:15 session. Also note
that we will contact you if you do not get your
first choice of session and time. If you do not
hear from us, be assured that your children are in
the time you requested.
Catechists Needed
Thank you to those of you who have responded
to our request for help. However, we are still in
need of catechists at various grade levels at
various session times. If you are a loving,
welcoming, accepting, forgiving person, you have
the most important qualifications for being a
catechist. You don’t have to be a theologian, just
someone who can help our children understand
how the Gospel can be applied to their lives.
Come share your Faith with the young people of
Mary, Queen.
All of our classes meet on
Wednesdays. Currently we need catechists and
aides at the following levels:
3:15 p.m. Session
Grade 1 – 1 catechist
Grade 3 - 3 co-catechist
1 aide
Grade 4 - 1 co-catechists
5:15 p.m. Session Grade 6 - 1 aide
6:45 p.m. Session Grade 6 - 1 co-catechist

.
As you can see, our greatest need is for our 3:15
p.m. session. If you are someone who works at
home and are able to fit us into your schedule,
we would love to speak with you.
For more information on any of the above,
please contact the REO, (630) 832-8962

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
Charity bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things. (1 Cor 13:7)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
There are many places around the globe where
the Church struggles to be a visible sign of charity,
but thankfully, the Holy Father is the pilgrim of
charity for Catholics everywhere. In poor dioceses
where many are dependent on the Church for
social and pastoral support; in regions where
Catholics are persecuted for their faith; and in
nations overloaded with refugees and victims of
war and natural disasters, the works done by the
Holy
Father help the Church extend charity to
those most in need.
The Peter’s Pence Collection gives us the opportunity to be pilgrims of charity around the world.
Our gifts to this annual Collection help the Holy
Father strengthen dioceses, religious orders, and
struggling communities of faith when they need it
most.
Many who struggle to survive rely on pilgrims of
charity to assist them through their difficulties. Last
year, the Diocese of Joliet provided funds in the
amount of $240,996.77. Please give generously
to the Collection again this year, and know that in
doing so, you become a pilgrim of charity around
the globe.
May God bless you.
