The Stargates
The Stargates are a series of devices that can create an artificial subspace wormhole, allowing for
instantaneous transportation between two points in space. The ancient race that built the Stargates is often
referred to as the gate builders.
The Stargate found on Earth is estimated to be over 50 million years old and is amongst the oldest
example of ancient technology found in the Milky Way galaxy. The Ancients, as they are now known,
placed Stargates on thousands of worlds throughout several galaxies. Though as a race they are long
gone, numerous networks of gates still remain accessible to those with knowledge of how they work.
Many races have and continue to use these Stargates as a form of travel, with some races, such
as the Goa’uld, shaping there way of life around these gates, which have become an integral part of their
culture.
Most races have developed their own names for the Stargates. The Goa’uld word Chappa’ai is a
calque of the Ancient name of Astria Porta with the English word of Stargate being a direct translation from
the Goa’uld language. Stargates are present on many planets, with many of the races that use them being
primitive in nature, because of this, these races view Ancient technology as being divine in nature,
evidenced by such names as ‘Circle of Darkness’ and ‘Ring of the Gods’ however, many of these
references to gods and evil come directly from Goa’uld influence.

Races of the Stargate Universe
Ancients - The Ancients, also known as the gate builders, are an extension of a race known as the
Alterans who left their home galaxy to seed life among the stars. They are one of the most advanced races
to have existed, and reached a heightened level of technology millions of years before sentient life existed
on earth.
Over their evolutionary existence, the Ancients gradually became much more advanced than
baseline humans. Towards the end of their evolutionary journey, they developed various mental powers
such as telepathy, telekinesis and
the ability to heal others with a
touch.
The Ancients fell prey to a
plague, which forced them to
ascend to a higher plane of
existence, leaving behind the need
for a physical body.
‘Once upon a time, there was a race
of people that went on a great
journey through space, across the
universe. They were called the
Alterans. After much time they
found a great belt of stars. The
Alterans named their new home
Avalon and built many 'Astria Porta'
- Daniel Jackson of SG-1
Ancients in Environmental Survival Suites
Tau’ri - Tau’ri is the term used to describe
the human inhabitants of the planet Earth of the
Milky Way galaxy. It means ‘those from the first
world’ in the Goa’uld language in the sense that
all human life began on earth.
"There is a tale of a primitive world the Goa'uld
discovered millennia ago. The Tau'ri, the first
world where forms of this type first evolved. It is
said the Goa'uld harvested among the
primitives, some became Goa'uld hosts, others
became Jaffa, and the rest were taken as slaves
and seeded among the stars to serve them." Teal’c of SG-1

Goa’uld - A Goa’uld is a sentient worm like parasite, which can take several species as a host, most
notably humans. The word Goa’uld means God in the Goa’uld language and, because of their extremely
egomaniacal nature they will destroy any race that does not bow down to them completely. Genetic
memory and adverse effects of Goa’uld technology have warped them into this state.
After stealing Ancient technology and adapting it to suit their needs, the Goa’uld warred amongst
themselves. At the resolution to this civil war, the
Goa’uld organised a new leadership and called it
the ‘High Council of the System Lords’. Ra, a
prominent figure in the Goa’uld civil war installed
himself as the Supreme System Lord of the
Goa’uld Empire.
"I mean we have no right to play God. But, neither
do the Goa'uld. Now I know none of this seems
real to you on paper, but trust me, they're pure
evil."
- Daniel Jackson of SG-1
An Infant Goa’uld
Jaffa - The Jaffa faithfully serve
various Goa’uld masters as soldiers and
servants, with a strong discipline and high
physical development. They are an offshoot
of humanity, genetically engineered to
incubate an infant Goa’uld within a stomach
pouch which protects its Jaffa carrier with
long life, increased physical strength and
good health at the cost of supplanting the
Jaffa’s immune system, making them
heavily reliant on the Goa’uld. Jaffa live in a
warrior culture and make up the bulk of any
Goa’uld army.
"The Jaffa are the foundation upon which
the false gods have built their empires. We
can tear them down!" – Teal’c of SG-1

Tok’ra - The Tok’ra, a race of worm like parasites, similar to the Goa’uld, that reject the ways of the
System Lords. They derive their name from the word ‘tok’ meaning against, and ‘Ra’ the Supreme System
Lord. A Tok’ra only takes willing hosts of often sick or injured humans, and share control of the body and of
consciousness with their host.
First spawned by Egeria, Queen of
Ra. She stood against the Goa’uld Empire
and nurtured many broods of Tok’ra to take
the fight to the Goa’uld. After the death of
Egeria the Tok’ra numbers dwindled and
they went into hiding, Because of their
inability to raise a substantial fighting force,
they adopted strategies of stealth and
subterfuge.
"There is an old legend among the Jaffa
forbidden to speak of concerning a group of
Goa'uld who opposed the ways of the
System Lords." – Teal’c of SG-1
Members of the Tok’ra High Council
Asgard - The Asgard are an extremely advanced race
originating from the Ida galaxy. They visited earth on many
occasions and gave rise to Nordic mythology throughout the
Milky-way galaxy. Throughout their history the Asgard have
made peaceful contact with the Ancients and made conflict
with the Goa’uld, liberating many human slaves from their
grasp.
Pursuing a means of extending their lifespan, the
Asgard began to use cloning technology; however, the
process over time degraded the Asgard genome, leading to a
rapidly progressing fatal disease which could make them
extinct if a cure cannot be found.

"I mean, all they wanted to do was live a little longer. We're
no different. Sequence DNA. Cure diseases. One fatal
mistake and they doom their entire race. I guess no matter
what you do, at the end of the day, life is too short." - Daniel

The Story So Far
Stargate Command (SGC) - Stargate Command (SGC) is based deep inside the Cheyenne
Mountain Complex in Colorado. It houses and operates Earths Stargate, and is an organization in control of
all matters pertaining to off-world threats, exploration and extra-terrestrial civilizations. The SGC comprises
of numerous staff, including military support, subject matter experts, elite operations teams and several SG
teams. A Major General assumes command of the SGC and is absolute authority over all matters relating
to the Stargate, Second only to the President of
the United States.
Located over one thousand meters
below the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, it is
protected from almost all forms of attack,
including indirect nuclear detonations, and is
built to contain hazards generated by Stargate
travel. From the point after the first Stargate
mission in 1996, Stargate Command was
formed with a contingent of SG teams whose
primary focus was to acquire weapons or
technology to aid in the fight against the Goa’uld
and to establish diplomatic relations with other
alien races. SG-1 is Stargate Commands
spearhead off-world team, consisting of Colonel
Jack O’neil, Dr Daniel Jackson, Captain
Emblem of the SGC
Samantha Carter and the Jaffa Teal’c.
The First Stargate Mission - On the first mission to Abydos, Colonel O'Neill brought a
nuclear warhead, believing the mission was suicide. Ra, the
Supreme System Lord of the Goa'uld Empire, discovered it and
decided to send it to Earth with added Naquadah ore magnifying
it by 100 times its destructive power. While there, he met
Skaara, who reminded him of his son, but still activated the
bomb. While Dr. Daniel Jackson tried to save Sha're, a local
woman he had fallen in love with, O'Neill battled Ra's First
Prime, finally decapitating him.
Ra, however, had altered the bomb, making it incapable
of deactivation. When Ra learned that the Abydonians had
rebelled, he took his mothership into orbit. O'Neill, unable to
deactivate the bomb, sent it up to the ship, killing Ra, but
inadvertently beginning Earth's war with the Goa'uld.

Tau’ri – Goa’uld War - The Tau’ri – Goa’uld war (1996 - Present) is a conflict being fought
between the Tau’ri of Earth and their allies, against the Goa’uld System Lords. The war began as a team of
humans from Earth travelled to a planet called Abydos, there they encountered the Supreme System Lord
Ra. The team (led by Colonel Jack O’neil and accompanied by Dr Daniel Jackson) incited a rebellion and
killed Ra by placing a Naquadah enriched nuclear warhead upon his ship. Ra’s untimely death left a power
vacuum amongst the other System Lords, this led to much infighting but led to the prevalence of Apophis
as the dominant force among the Goa’uld.
Apophis took hosts from Earth and Abydos, which forced the Tau’ri to travel to Chulak, Apophis’s
home world. Dr Daniel Jacksons spouse and brother-in-law were taken by Apophis and turned into Goa’uld
before The Tau’ri could attempt a rescue, they were subsequently captured. Teal’c, then First Prime of
Apophis, helped the Tau’ri to escape Chulak, returning to Earth. Upon their return the SGC was officially
founded and SG-1 created to directly counteract Goa’uld dominance throughout the galaxy.

Naquadah - Naquadah is an extremely potent, superdense mineral which has the ability to greatly amplify energy.
Naquadah forms the basis of many advanced
technologies including that of the Goa’uld and the Stargates
themselves. The Goa’uld have many Naquadah mining
operations, manned by human slaves and guarded by many
Jaffa warriors.

Characters
Colonel Jack O’Neil – SG1 - Born October 20th, 1952 in
Chicago, Illinois. Jack O’Neil joined the United States Air Force during the
Vietnam war in 1980. He married Sara O’Neil and together had a son,
Charlie. Charlie accidentally killed himself with Jack O’Neil’s hand gun prior
to the first Stargate mission to Abydos. He took the mission expecting it to
be a suicide, by taking a nuclear warhead through the Stargate, and
destroying any threat to earth on the other side. Colonel Jack O’Neil
subsequently destroyed Ra but returned through the Stargate back to
Earth. After returning to Earth O’Neil led SG1 through the Stargate on
numerous exploration missions through Stargate Command.
"He's an amazing man. After everything he's done, he's still modest, quite self-effacing actually. He even
likes people to think he's not as smart as he really is. Bottom line: He's an incredibly strong leader who's
given more of himself for this program than anyone has given for... well... anything I can imagine." Samantha Carter
Skaara - Skaara was a boy living on the planet Abydos, brother of Sha're. When the original team from
Earth came to Abydos through the Stargate, Skaara met and befriended Colonel Jack O'Neill, whom he
came to idolize and respect. Skaara was taken by Apophis as a Goa’uld host for his son Klorel.
Thor – Thor is an Asgard who holds the title of Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet. Thor originally
visited Earth circa 500 AD, taking some of its inhabitants to the planet Cimmeria where they could prosper.
Between then and the time that Thor was reunited with the Tau'ri, he went through twenty clone bodies,
each progressive clone having died in one way or another while his consciousness was transferred into the
next.
Captain Samantha Carter – SG1 - Samantha Carter, Born
December 29, 1968, is an astrophysicist, engineer and pilot who played a key
role in bringing the Stargate program into existence as a member of SG-1.
She is Earth's leading expert on the Stargate and alien technology. Carter is
the daughter of Jacob Carter, an Air Force Major General, and a brother
named Mark Carter, who is married and has children. Her mother died when
she was a teenager. She was assigned to work on the Stargate Project in
1994, and was a prominent member of investigating the sciences behind it
and developing the Earth dialling computer for the Stargate.
"Carter, you're one of this country's natural resources, if not national treasures." - Jack O'Neill

Jacob Carter - Father of Colonel Samantha Carter, Jacob was a long-time member of the United States
Air Force, retiring as a Major General. When ill health took him, Samantha Carter presented him to the
Tok’ra, they took him as a voluntary host and Jacob now shares his body with the Tok’ra Selmak
Teal’c – SG1 - Chosen because it means "strength" in the
Goa'uld language, Teal'c was named by his father, Ronac. He was
born on a world under the control of the System Lord Cronus circa
1899, where his father served as Cronus' First Prime. After failing
to win an unwinnable battle, Cronus killed Ronac, and exiled Teal'c
and his mother to Chulak. Vowing to become First Prime of the
mortal enemy of Cronus, Apophis, and Teal’c was taken under the
wing of Bra'tac who was the First Prime of Apophis at that time.
Bra'tac planted the seeds of doubt about the Goa'uld in Teal'c's
mind. After becoming First Prime, he twice defied Apophis and
spared two Jaffa, Va'lar and Del'nor, who he was ordered to kill.
After winning a battle with Arkad's forces, someone killed Teal'c's
mother in her sleep. Years later, Arkad claimed to be responsible
but Teal'c believed if he had been responsible, he was too cowardly to do it himself. Teal'c later married
Drey'auc, and had a son, Rya'c before helping the Tau’ri escape the captivity of Apophis, and becoming a
member of SG-1 fighting against the Goa’uld.
“Teal'c, I saw you stand up to a god. You refused to kill. I saw you make that decision... In that moment I
learned everything I needed to know to trust you." - Jack O'Neill
Bra’tac - Bra'tac of Chulak is Teal'c's former Jaffa Master who still is his on-going teacher and friend. Teal'c
also considers him to be like a father for him, and Bra'tac is known to
be an honourable and decent man. He was previously First Prime of
Apophis.
Dr Daniel Jackson – SG1 - Daniel Jackson, born July
8th, 1965, in New York. Daniels parents were killed in an accident at
the New York museum of art when he was 8 years old, pushing him
into foster care. He has several times displayed that he is an
individual of great integrity, often passionately arguing against morally
unsound plans. He tends to be very respectful of alien cultures,
except when their culture involves immoral practices, and he often
approaches the unknown with an almost childlike sense of awe.
However, he seems to have a hard time accepting no-win scenarios.
Daniel Jackson eventually grew up to become an archaeologist, linguist and expert in ancient writing
systems, languages and cultures. He was ostracized from the scientific community for his radical theories
involving cross-pollination of ancient cultures and the Egyptian pyramids being landing sites for alien

spaceships and that they were far older than previously thought. Upon the first mission to Abydos, Daniel
fell in love with an Abydonian woman called Sha’re.
"You are... brilliant. One of the most caring, passionate...you're the type of person who would give his own
life for someone he doesn't even know. If you had one fault, it was that you wanted to save people so
badly, y-you wanted to help people so much, that it tore you apart when you couldn't make a difference." Samantha Carter
Sha’re - Sha’re an Abydonian woman and wife to Daniel Jackson. Is the sister of Skaara. When a Tau'ri
team of explorers arrived through the Stargate they quickly befriended the local population, supporting and
defending them from Ra. Sha're was presented as a "gift" to the Daniel Jackson, from Abydos' elders.
Later, when Ra and his Jaffa were killed by the uprising Abydonian population, Daniel voluntarily remained
on the planet to live with Sha're, whom he now had feelings for. Sha’re was kidnapped by Apophis to be a
host for his queen Amonette.
General George S. Hammond – SGC George S. Hammond is the Commanding Officer of Stargate
Command. Master Bra'tac has been known to call him "Hammond
of Texas", referring to Hammond's home state (and occasionally
gesturing with a palm over his head, referring to Hammond's bald
head). Hammond is a widower; his wife Margaret Hammond died
of cancer. He has two grandchildren, Kayla and Tessa, whose
phone number is keyed to the 1 button on his office phone above
the President of the United States. A former Air Force pilot during
the Vietnam War, Hammond witnessed his best friend get shot
down but his body was never recovered
Dr Janet Frasier - Janet Frasier is a talented and compassionate human of the Tau'ri. She leads the
medical teams at Stargate Command meaning that she has to deal with a variety of unusual problems.
Frasier was once married to a man who discouraged her from joining the United States Air Force. They
were no longer together as of 1997 and, apparently, they never had any children. She has become one of
the foremost experts on Goa'uld symbiotes, having created a symbiote tank to keep Teal’c’s in, and having
had opportunities to dissect dead symbiotes. Being the Chief Medical Officer at the SGC, Dr. Frasier has
the authority to overrule those of any rank when it came to medical issues. Her use of such authority once
led Colonel Jack O'Neill to call her a 'Napoleonic power monger'.
Norman Walter Davis Harriman - Walter Harriman is a Master Sergeant stationed at Stargate Command.
His post is as a technician in the Stargate Operations room, responsible for the activities there. He is
trusted with much, and is known to be loyal to his work. His main responsibilities are controlling and
monitoring the Stargate dialling computer.

The Goa’uld System Lords
The System Lords spent most of their time combating each other. When faced with external and mutual
internal threats, they would meet with each other. This Council had the authority to grant the rank of
System Lord to a Goa'uld, and also banish a System Lord from their number. A System Lord or powerful
Goa'uld could also send a delegate to the Council and vote on their behalf. The council also had the
authority to negotiate with an enemy of the Goa'uld Empire, such as they did with the Asgard, though the
Council rarely pursued the negotiation option.
Apophis - Apophis is an extremely powerful Goa'uld
System Lord. The brother of the Supreme System Lord Ra,
he originally commanded a minor fleet, but he grew in
strength to command the power of multiple System Lords
that had been killed during his reign, ultimately succeeding
Ra as the dominant System Lord after his death. He held one
human host in his life.
He is one of the most powerful enemies of the Tau'ri
and a personal enemy of SG-1. In the aftermath following the
death of Ra, Apophis' power significantly increased during
1997, along with the knowledge of his existence. In order to
find a new host to his mate, he used the Stargate on Chulak
to search various planets for appropriate females, including
Earth and Abydos. Apophis arrived on Earth before the
Stargate was set to be buried and kidnapped a female United States Air Force Airmen. Despite resistance
by other Airmen, he was not stopped and was able to return to Chulak. He later arrived at Abydos, while
Colonel Jack O'Neill's team was present and kidnapped Sha're and Skaara.
Amaunet - A Goa'uld symbiote that took on a female personality and became the beloved of the Goa'uld
System Lord Apophis. Apophis deeply cared about her, and so expended a massive search across the
galaxy for a new host for Amaunet while she was kept in the belly of a Jaffa servant woman. Among the
women brought for Amaunet's inspection was Sha're. Amaunet accepted Sha're, who Apophis had also
desired, and implanted herself within her, gaining possession of her body. Sha're's husband Dr. Daniel
Jackson came with SG-1 to attempt to rescue her and her brother Skaara, but Amaunet was in complete
control and Jackson and the other Tau'ri were forced to leave without her.
Klorel - The son of Apophis, having taken Skaara of Abydos as his host. He was blended with his host
Skaara on Chulak
Cronus – A Goa’uld System Lord who is Apophis’ sworn enemy. Ronac, the father of Teal'c, was his First
Prime, but had ordered a retreat, for which Cronus killed him. Teal'c and his mother were banished to
Chulak, where Teal'c vowed to become First Prime of Apophis so that he would be in a position to someday
avenge his father. Cronus is described by Teal'c as being the most influential of the System Lords.

Hathor - the mate of Ra. Stranded on Earth, she
became imprisoned in her sarcophagus for centuries before
being set free. Leaving Earth, she attempted to rebuild her
power base.
She was once a Goa'uld with her own empire,
Hathor originally ruled from her place of power on TaNetjer. The local population, the Netjerians, were
anthropomorphic beings who worshiped Hathor as a god
with even more devotion than that seen in other races. She
eventually entered into an alliance with Ra, becoming his
queen and, not wanting his queen to have her own base of
power; Ra forced her to leave Ta-Netjer for good to join him
on Earth, though the Netjerians did not take her absence
lightly, committing mass suicide and performing rituals to
bring her back through the Stargate.
It was because of this alliance that Hathor lost
much of her independence and freedom of movement, both
of which she valued dearly, which led to her secretly
loathing Ra.
Heru'ur - The son of Ra and Hathor. Like his father, he was protected by the Horus Guards. He was a very
militaristic System Lord, feared even among the Goa'uld. After his father's death, he took control of most of
his empire, and became one of the dominant System Lords. Heru'ur was a rival of Apophis.
Sokar - A powerful Goa'uld System Lord, also well known for his cruel and sadistic nature. When the
Goa'uld first arrived on Earth, he began to act out the basis of various underworld demons, including the
Biblical Satan. For a time, Sokar was ruler of the Goa'uld, until an alliance consisting of several other
System Lords, including Ra, Apophis, and Cronus, banded together to defeat Sokar. He was believed
destroyed, but somehow survived. He conquered the world of Delmak, making it his home world, and
terraformed its moon into a hell-like world, naming it Netu. His underling Bynarr ruled Ne'tu, traveling to
Delmak by way of Rings to inform Sokar of the suffering of the damned.

Locations
Culak - Chulak is a planet that is approximately 2,000 light years away from Earth. It is the true home
of Teal'c. Chulak orbits a binary star system, which gives the planet hot days and cool nights. The planet is
a mountainous, heavily foliated world with vast coniferous forests. The capital city of Chulak has the same
name as the planet. The city seems to be located on top of a hill. It is located several miles away from the
Stargate. The city also has temples for Apophis. The Chulak Stargate has been present for over 5000
years. Under the control of Apophis, the Stargate area was cleared of forest and was almost made into a
shrine with strategically placed stones around the area.
Earth - Earth (‘Terra’ in Ancient, ‘Midgard’ to the humans settled by the Asgard, ‘Tau'ri’ in Goa'uld, and
designated ‘P2X-3YZ’ by the Tau'ri themselves), is the home planet of the Tau'ri and the cradle of human
civilization in the Milky Way. With a population of over 7 billion, Earth was one of the most populated known
human worlds in both the Pegasus and Milky Way Galaxies. This is due to a long period of isolation from
any alien contact. Earth was the second planet that the Ancients colonized after they left their home galaxy
(the first planet being Dakara). Known to them as Terra, it was the centre of their empire in the Milky Way.
Between thirty and ten million years ago, the Ancients were forced to leave due to a plague. When the
Ancients came back to Earth c. 8,000 BC, they found the humans in a primitive state of society and
knowledge, and under control of the Goa'uld known as Ra. The Ancients then, seeing that there was no
hope of rebuilding their societies, spread out to many lands (integrating into the primitive societies,
ascending, or dying, leaving the remaining humans in a primitive and defenceless state). Ra remained,
controlling Earth until circa 3,000 BC
Abydos - Abydos was the first planet reached through Earth's Stargate program and possibly the first
world the Goa'uld brought humans to. Abydos is a desert world, useless save for its deposits of Naquadah.
When this world was under the domain of Ra, he forced the human inhabitants to mine it for him. At the
time the Tau'ri first reached Abydos, the group researching the Stargate was not certain of its use. The
symbols for this world were the first valid gate address they discovered. A team was sent through, headed
by Colonel Jack O’neil to look for signs of any "possible danger" on the other side. When the Abydonians
first met the team, they were friendly, believing the team had been sent by Ra. A species resembling a
camel but woolly, known as a Mastadge, was indigenous to Abydos and was domesticated by the
Abydonian people to serve their needs as transportation and possibly food.
Othala - Othala is a planet located in the galaxy of Ida (presumed to be the Asgard's home galaxy),
and is one of the primary worlds within the sphere of the Asgard control and the capital planet of the Asgard
race. Othala serves as the headquarters for the Asgard High Council, which convenes within Gladsheim.
The Stargate was located in a meeting chamber within the Great Hall that served as a focal point of contact
with the other races. The rest of the planet was a hive of activity and contained numerous meeting halls,
construction facilities, homes, academic centres and outposts of the Asgard's military. Several green parks
separate the planet-sized city. It has been noted that while a majority of the inhabitants are Asgard, it is
possible to notice a few members of other species
