Introduction Module - Myths Of Asian Leadership
• What is preventing Pan-Asians from achieving positions in the C-Suite? This
module uncovers what participants can do to overcome these limitations.
Power & Influence
• This module concentrates on corporate power and influence and what
participants need to understand in order to navigate the corporate world
effectively.
Your Personal Brand
• What makes you distinctive? This module focuses on why building a personal
brand is vital in today’s corporate world.
Taking Risks
• This module focuses on how to take risks without acting recklessly and how to
mitigate the risks taken.
Selling & Client Relationships
• This module helps participants learn what critical selling and client relationship
skills are needed to be successful in all professions at all levels.
Managing Up
• This module helps participants understand the importance of their own
executive leadership teams and how they can engage those teams to ensure
long-term career success.
Buck Gee Former Vice President/General Manager, Cisco
Mr. Gee is board president of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, board member of Ascend/Northern California, an advisory board
member for Teranetics and Valadium, and serves on the donor advisory board for the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. He retired from Cisco
Systems in 2008, where he was Vice President and General Manager of the Datacenter Business Unit, a 900-person development organization in
Cisco, with engineering groups in India and China. In that role, he had P/L responsibility for Cisco’s $600 Million storage switching product line and
led Cisco’s growth to become the market leader in enterprise SAN switching. He joined Cisco with its 2004 acquisition of Andiamo Systems where
he was President and CEO from its inception in 2001. Prior to Andiamo, Mr. Gee was Vice President of Marketing for Com21, a $200 Million cable
modem supplier. He led all product management and marketing activities in growing the company from a venture-backed startup in 1994 to a public
company, with an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 1998. Buck holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard
Business School.
Wes Hom Former Vice President/Managing Director, IBM
Wesley Hom was formerly IBM’s Vice President in the Systems and Technology Group with global responsibilities for the overall execution of IBM’s
high–end server investments, strategies, sales, and emerging markets initiatives. Today, he advises on business development, diversity and leadership
development for Ascend’s global sponsors and respective organizations while serving on the Ascend National Board. He is also principal at Business
Innovation Services, LLC. helping investors and companies develop global strategies and plans to access next generation technologies and new business
models. He is the co–developer of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) and developer of the
Emerging Markets Leadership (EML) Program at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Wesley is a graduate of NYU’s Stern School
of Business with a B.S./C.S. and a M.B.A. degree. He was a member of IBM’s Certified Client Director Profession through Harvard Business School’s
Advanced Management Program.
Janet Wong Retired Partner, KPMG
Janet Wong is a retired Partner with KPMG. She is a CPA with 25+ years of experience in public accounting. She serves as a National Advisor and a
board member for the Houston chapter of Ascend. In addition, she serves as Vice-chair of Louisiana Tech University’s College of Business Advisory
Board and serves on the Boards of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and the Montgomery County American Heart Association. In 2011, she
received the Ascend Inspirational Leadership Award. She has also been honored as Louisiana Tech’s College of Business Alumni of the Year and with
the San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal Women of Distinction Award. Janet holds a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from Louisiana
Tech University and a Master of Taxation degree from Golden Gate University.
S.K. Gupta Retired Vice President of Operations, Lockheed Martin
S. K. Gupta has served in key leadership positions on a wide range of board of directors, including the Department of Energy’s Sandia National
Laboratories, Bay Area Council, San Jose Museum of Art, and LEAP. He is a recognized expert on leading change and developing minority leadership,
and has been quoted in various national media. In 2010, he was presented the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. S. K. retired from Lockheed Martin, as
the Vice President of Operations for Space Systems, which manufactures satellites and strategic missiles and contributes over $8 billion to Lockheed
Martin Corporation’s annual sales. His annual budget authority exceeded $700 million in support of 18,000 employees across 12 states. He currently
volunteers with TiE and Ascend, where he is helping lead an Asian American Corporate Board initiative, called Pinnacle. A graduate of the Marine
Engineering College in India and the University of Michigan, he also holds a MBA from Seattle University. He is a credentialed board director with
NACD and has published and presented papers on leadership, business, and technical topics.
