I am writing this while in Maine and the glorious weather
makes me feel sad for those who have been suffering with
the very hot temperatures over the summer months.
Hopefully you have been out and about in your Roadtrek and
enjoying the North American continent which has so much
beauty.
Our Chapter Rally is fast approaching and I am sure that all
the attendees in Texas will have a wonderful time sharing our
knowledge and friendship. We are still in need of volunteers
to help lead the chapter activities so do not hesitate to
put your ‘hat in the ring’.
I have just returned from the FMCA convention (where we
had 42 RTs registered with 36 parked together) in
Springfield, Massachusetts and can assure you that our
‘parent’ is in good shape. The Governing Board meeting went
well and the organization is looking to the future. Please read
the report from our Chapter Director, John MacInnis on Page
9.
We are still the second largest chapter and usually have the
largest group of any chapter at many events. Check both the
Roadtrek International and FMCA rally calendars and join us
for the fun.
The next FMCA conventions are in Chandler, Arizona in
March, and then the INTO (International Area) rally which will
be quite different than any area rally as it will be in a
campground with a ‘show’ theme (May 1-5) in Branson.
I suggest you renew your FMCA membership before October
1st as dues are going to be raised by $10/year in order to
continue all our great benefits. Also the ‘pay for 4 years, get 5
years’ promotion is still in effect as of this writing.

Region 6 will host a rally in Region 7 following the Glen
Rose, TX Chapter Rally.
We are pleased to invite you to share in the island life of
South Padre Island in Texas and to enjoy what we love
enough to spend our winters there.
After almost 4 days to meander south through deep TX,
we will welcome you at the South Padre Island KOA on
Oct. 24th for beer, wine, cheese, conversation, and
dinner.
South Padre Island (SPI) has a free shuttle/bus service
all around the island and to neighboring
communities. Leave the RT parked and leave the driving
to them.
Tuesday—after a sit down breakfast, explore Port Isabel
and have dinner at Pirates Landing.
Wednesday-on your own to walk, bike, bus, or RV to
explore the beach or other areas of your choosing with a
late afternoon dinner at Pier 19.
Thursday- after a sit down breakfast, we will convene for
an eco/dolphin boat excursion on the Laguna Madre with
dinner following at the Shrimphaus.
Friday- wrap with a continental breakfast.
Brimming with wonderful treasures, the Sarasota area of
Florida has much for you to experience. Beginning with
the Ringling Museum which includes: the Howard
Tibbals’ huge miniature circus museum (a carved to
scale likeness of all activity taking place at a circus which
if life size would span 11 acres); the Ca d’Zan Mansion,
home of John and Mable Ringling; and the John and
Mable Ringling Museum of Art (the official art museum of
Florida).
Nearby is the Mote Marine Laboratory/Aquarium and its
hands on educational boat tours; the Marie Selby
Botanical Gardens featuring 20,000 living plants and
5500 orchids; and Historic Spanish Point- a 30 acre historical treasure featuring a “window to the past”, the only
archeological exhibition in the nation built inside of a
shell mound.
A true treasure of this Rally is Wednesday when we take
a bus trip to Solomon‘s Castle. Designed and built by
internationally known artist Howard Solomon, the Castle
houses Howard’s home, galleries and sculptures made
from scrap materials. A tour of the castle offers you the
experience of Howard’s sense of humor, highlighted by
his outrageous puns. Our lunch will be on the “Boat in
the Moat” also built by Howard.www.solomonscastle.org

challenge. There will be three catered dinners and a potluck
with ample time for visiting.
Building a float is not in our plans. Instead, we suggest walking as a group carrying our banner and wearing our Beach

RALLY REPORTS
O Canada, Eh Rally Report by Lyne Webb
Thirty-six Roadtreks were welcomed to the Niagara
Falls KOA by Rally Master, Noreen Aussem. We were
conveniently located close to The Falls with its many
attractions and to Niagara-on-the-Lake by a beautiful
half hour drive along the Niagara Parkway. While the
weather was chilly to start, each day got a little warmer
as we went about our scheduled activities of wine
tasting at two of the local wineries and an evening of
food, song and laughter at the O Canada, Eh Dinner
Theatre. We had a sumptuous catered hot breakfast
on Wednesday morning consisting of the usual fare
plus the addition of delicious strawberry crepes - - a
definite hit! Friday’s pancake breakfast was catered by
the KOA with real Canadian maple syrup provided by
our Rally Master. Maple syrup ( liquid gold), makes all
the difference. On our last evening, a campfire with
s’mores was enjoyed as we exchanged information on
past and future travels and got to know one another just
a little better. This rally had just the right mix of
scheduled activities and free time. Thanks for a great
experience.

I've been working on a project in Sherbrooke Canada which requires
approval from the city council. If the city agrees with what I suggested, this will be a rally that is unique to this day.
The date will be in June 2017- more details including exact date,
location, type of activity, dining, etc. to come.
-Marc-André Gagné , Co-V.P
We write this from the road having just left the FMCA Convention in
West Springfield, MA and touring Boston. We hope to continue our
travel up the east coast to Maine before heading west and home.
We enjoyed the FMCA Convention; the venue was historic and
quaint, the entertainment of high quality and the activities and
vendors varied.
We will begin planning a rally for Oktoberfest, 2017 in Kitchener,
which will include, we hope, a tour of the re-tooled Roadtrek factory
as well as usual Oktoberfest festivities. Our Co-VP, Marc-Andre
Gagne, is finalizing his plan for a June 2017 rally in Sherbrooke,
Quebec. We should have dates for both these rallies by the November 2016 newsletter.
A shout-out to our members in the Maritime Provinces: Colin and I
have a hankering for fresh seafood and ocean beaches. If you have
ideas for a rally, please let us know. We will help you plan.
Wishing you all a warm and colourful fall.

Hope you are all enjoying your travels, visiting friends and family this
hot summer. Also travel and fun can be had by attending rallies.
Wow, the summer is going too fast in this northern region! We have
had a lot of rain and wind, but so far have dodged the bullet of falling
trees. Hope you all have had a safe summer.
Region 4 has 3 rallies this fall: Lincoln Highway Rolling rally, Ohio
Amish rally and the Awesome Autumn R & R. Hope you were able to
attend.
We will be heading out soon to join Gayle Crompton on the `I and M
Canal rally` in September and then on to the Chura`s `Reminiscing
on the River` in early October.
Consider planning a rally or R & R in 2017. We can help you.
By mid-October we will begin closing things down in Minnesota and
leaving for the Chapter Rally in Texas and from there to our own rally
`Escape to South Padre Island.` We still have two spots available,
so holler if you are interested. We hope to see many of you at one
of these rallies.
Region 4 members need to be thinking of volunteering for the Sept
2017 Chapter Rally in NE Indiana. It will take many hands to help at
the rally. Also need a few people to plan and help with games and
activities to be held at the campground. Need someone to make our
dogs happy with some activities for them. I have some food and musical entertainment already booked. Should be a fun time! Contact
us via email if questions or to help.
-Bob and Carol Kroah
As always we are hoping we can get one or two of our region 6
members to volunteer their time and a favorite location to host a rally
in 2017 or beyond. Your VP`s are here to help. Remember, this is a
volunteer organization, and we need you.
While you are thinking about all this, remember to keep it between
the lines.

We are looking for help from the region for the Fall Chapter Rally in Glen Rose, Tx in order to make the rally a success.
We are planning a rally in Hot Springs, AR April 24-28, 2017. This
rally will be a perfect pair with the INTO rally in Branson May 1-5.
The two locations are only a few hours of driving apart with much in
between to fill in the weekend between the two rallies.
Our region has had an opening for another Region VP for a few
years. If you would like to volunteer to be co-VP or know someone in
Region 7 that would make a good VP, please let us know.
We also need rally leaders. Without volunteers we cannot have
events. Please step up to the plate and volunteer!
If you would like to plan a rally, contact your Region VP Phyllis
Slaughter [email protected] with ideas and suggestion of place,
things to do, and possible dates. We will help you organize and host
the rally.

FMCA WEST SPRINGFIELD CONVENTION REPORT
By John Arch MacInnis, National Director RTI Chapter
The FMCA summer convention was held at the Big E grounds, West
Springfield MA, 2-6 August.
Once again Roadtrek International (RTI) was well represented and
well looked after. With more that 40 RTs in attendance of which
more than 30 were parked together, RTI was arguably the largest
single Chapter represented.
RTI’s contribution has become well recognized and it was clear that
we had the best location on the grounds. Those who had chosen
the electric option were pleased we had both water and sewer as
well, along with great washroom facilities., which we shared with the
non-electrics parked nearby.

FMCA WEST SPRINGFIELD CONVENTION REPORT –Continued from
prior column
This type of attention from FMCA has become pretty much the
norm, due in no small part to the work of the Chapter President
(and now a VP of the International Area) Sherry Targum.
Long standing RTI members will remember when attending FMCA
events was not actively encouraged
I can assure you that we missed out on a lot! Each of these
conventions have much to offer. RTI members should try to attend
at least one.
I represented RTI at the Governing Board meeting on August 3.
Here is a summary of the salient issues discussed:
Membership
President Charlie Adcock, pointed out that our membership fell from
a high of 129,000 in 2004 to 70,000 today. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that 2016 is the first year in which the trend
seems to be reversing, already showing a small increase.
An indicator was the attendance at the convention at which a full
25% were first timers. Charlie congratulated all for the increase,
pointing out that is was the membership itself which recruits new
members. It was now up the executive to work on retaining them. A
plan of action is being thought out, a part of which is RVillage. (See
RVillage.com and look for FMCA).
Articles of Incorporation
It was discovered that FMCA, when it was set up, had made its
charter so restrictive that it could not legally make
substantive changes. The Governing Board approved a
motion to begin the process necessary to move that authority to
where it belongs – the membership itself. To report back at next
year’s meeting.
Finances
We are in good shape with $8 million in the bank (about the same
as a year ago).
FMCAssist
This medical-related benefit has proven to be very popular. As you
know, it provides some substantial coverage which would cost you
$105 per year if purchased outside FMCA. Our premium is included
in our dues. However, it has become over-extended as calls upon it
far exceeded
expectations. An increase in premiums is in order, from about 45
cents per couple per month to over 70 cents. The Governing Board
agreed that the premium should continue to be paid from our dues.
Dues Increase
FMCA dues have remained constant for years despite rising costs
and increasing member benefits. In order to maintain a balanced
budget while retaining the same level of attractive benefits (see
previous paragraph) the Governing Board
overwhelming approved an annual increase of $10. This will come
into effect in October 2016.
