Early Bulletin Deadlines Bulletin Issue Date March 13 & March 20 March 27 April 3 Due to Parish Office by 10am Monday, February 29 Tuesday, March 15 Tuesday, March 22 Questions of the Week First Reading: Deuteronomy 26:4-10 Second Reading: Romans 10:8-13 Gospel Reading: Luke 4:1-13 1. Today’s reading from Paul strongly presents the call to discipleship with the words, “believe in your heart” and “confess with your mouth.” Both phrases offer great challenges. Which one is the greater challenge for you? 2. American pluralism might well encourage an attitude of indifference rather than tolerance in letting people alone with their beliefs. How can this attitude be overcome? As a disciple, how might you take a stand for your religious convictions without arrogance, coercion or manipulation? 3. In the gospel reading, Jesus confronts evil by quoting from the scriptures. What Christian messages can you use this week by word and example to transofmr our community and society today? Did you know? You can donate appreciated stocks to the Church? When you do, you will receive a tax deduction for the full value of the stock, but not have to pay tax on the gain. The process is fairly simple. Contact Kathy McGowan at 630-416-3325 for more details. Stewardship Stewardship is what I do after I say “I Believe” Sunday Collection $ 24,647.02 Christmas Collection $ 99,036.32 Average Weekly Collection $ 22,291.61 Budgeted Weekly Collection $ 22,215.69 Weekly Capital Development Fund $ 1,681.00 Today is the first Sunday of Lent and in the Gospel we see how Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert. Are there times in your life or marriage relationship when you judge you are in a spiritual desert? Strengthen, renew, and rekindle your marriage sacrament by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend on April 8-10, 2016 or June 10-12, 2016 or August 12-14, 2016, all at Elk Grove Village, IL. Early registration is highly recommended. For reservations/information, call Jim & Kris at 630-577-0778 or contact us through http:// wwme-chicagoland.org . If you would like to talk to someone about Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends, call parishioners John & Betty Schuch. (630983-5999) Information is also on our new parish website under the About Us tab; click on the Christian Formation Commission and scroll down to Marriage Encounter. Lighthouse Catholic Media We ask for a donation of $4.00/book, $3.00/CD, $2.00/booklet and $0.50/pamphlet so that we may continue this program. Need You Right Now Our Parish Mental Health Ministry For Parents of Children, Youth, and Young Adults with Disabilities A part of our beautiful faith is that we want to share it with everyone! To do that in the way Christ calls us, we need to make sure we hear from you how we can do it in a way that works best for you! Two listening sessions have been scheduled for parents to share their comments about how well parishes in the diocese have assisted them with sacramental preparation, Mass attendance, and any other issues. Bishop R. Daniel Conlon has asked that the diocesan Disabilities Ministry provide this opportunity to hear the needs of these families, so that they can assist parish leaders to serve them better. Session One will be on Saturday, February 20 at St. Raphael Parish in Naperville, 10:30 am – 12 noon (during the RE ACH session). Session Two will be Monday, April 18 fr om 7-8:30 pm at St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Plainfield. For more information, please contact Joyce Donahue at 815-221-6146. If you cannot make those sessions, please reach out to Gerard Erickson and pass along your comments: [email protected]; 630-669-5653. Fr. Mike Schmitz tackles some of the most difficult topics in the Church today with humor, clarity, and theological truth. In this talk, he challenges us to not settle for mediocrity and to allow Christ to change our lives. Fr. Mike goes on to explain that once we are changed by the love of Jesus, then together we can change the world. Parishioner Comments: If I could only share one talk, this would be it! Jesse - Elgin, IL Fr. Mike challenges us to look back at how we spend our time and our money and ask if our history proves our love for Jesus. Monica - Wichita, KS Environmental Ministry ENVIRONMENT – THINK GREEN: If you alr eady compost in your backyard, we applaud you and we thank you for doing your part to conserve resources and save our earth. If you live in Naperville, consider signing up for their voluntary food scrap composting collection program. If you don’t live in Naperville, talk to your municipality about getting food scrap composting started in your community. Call Waste Management at 800-796-9696. “Jesus is with us every step of the way, giving us the grace we need. God invites us to embrace the lives we have been given, for as long as they are given. Every life is worth living.” - 2015-16 Respect Life Program Flyer www.goo.gl/sYADTw USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities ORGAN DONORS WHY THIS ACTION HELPS: Food scr aps contain nutrients our soil needs. Sending food scraps to the landfill wastes those valuable resources. Using a garbage disposal wastes water and energy. Did you know it takes about eight gallons of water for every pound of food when using a garbage disposal? Remember, we pay for water two ways – pulling it from Lake Michigan and sending it to the wastewater treatment facility. Composting is the best way to dispose of food scraps – helping our soil, saving water and conserving energy. For information, call Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network at 630-758-2601. www.giftofhope.org Pope Francis calls for a change in lifestyle and consumption. We can make important changes as individuals, families and communities. This is a change that is easy for us to make. The 40 Days for Life campaign is a communitybased campaign that draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program of Prayer and fasting, Peaceful vigil and Community outreach. We encourage the use of our high efficiency electric hand dryers located in the rest rooms in the lower level rather than using paper towels. By doing so, we reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on landfill capacity, besides saving our parish money. Thank you for your participation in sustainability, which Pope Francis has been encouraging. St. Vincent de Paul needs your old car! • • • • All types of vehicles welcome - running or not! Vehicles in good running condition will be given away to needy families in the community to help KEEP JOBS! Vehicles not running or in need of major repair are towed, at no charge to you, and sold at auction of salvage. Donations are tax deductible and tax documentation gladly provided. through Sunday, March 20 40 Days for Life takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ's resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge. Volunteers are needed to pray at the abortion mill in Downers Grove. Sign up on line at: www.40daysforlife.com We have a long waiting list for folks needing vehicles to help them get to and from work. Please help us help others! THANK YOU!! Want to Use the Welcome Desk? Call us at 630-293-9755 for info or to donate your car!! (When you call please have the car title with you) All handouts, signing and activities at the Welcome Desk must be pre-approved by John Ripoll - [email protected] Christian Formation Commission Christ said, "I Am The Way and The Truth and The Life; no one can come to the Father except through me."
