These 29 men are from as far north as St. Walters Parish in Roselle and as far south as Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Gibson City. Of these 29 men, we are proud and excited that four are members of St. Elizabeth Seton. They are: Gerard Erickson, Steven Hill, Robert Larkin and John Ripoll. Certainly we are grateful and excited to have these four men Ordained and assigned here at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish. In recognition for their achievement and hard work, there will be an opportunity to greet them after all Masses August 27 and 28. All are encouraged to come and thank them for all of their hard work and perseverance in the lower level. To get to this point required significant effort, perseverance and yes even some hardships. The road has been long with many bumps along the way. To fully understand and appreciate their journey, one has only to look over the path they have walked. In September of 2011 applications were first accepted to enter Diaconate Formation. The process included not only the support of their pastor, but also a long series of interviews with the men and their wives as well as three letters of recommendation. Additionally, a psychological evaluation of the applicant and his wife was required. Of the 50+ applications received, only 30 men were initially invited to enter a year of Aspirancy. Shortly after the Aspirancy year started, one man had to voluntarily withdraw. This left the remaining 29 men who will be Ordained on August 27th. Since all classes were held at the Blanchette Center in Crest Hill, this meant that over the past four years they have made a minimum of 468 trips to and from the Blanchette Center. This, of course is in addition to all the other things going in their lives, such as their families, jobs and everything else that goes on in busy lives. We recognize this perseverance as amazing dedication not only in consideration of our four parishioners, but also especially in consideration of the one individual who made these trips to and from Gibson City, the southernmost Parish in the Diocese each week as well. As you might imagine, the classmates have formed a special bond over the past four years. They initially came together as strangers or at best casual acquaintances. They leave Formation as a family. Since these four men are part of our Parish family, we invite you to keep them in your prayers for the success of their anticipated service to the Lord, our parish, our community and wherever the Lord leads them. Come and celebrate with them as we honor these four men after all Masses August 27 and 28 in the lower level. Comeletusadore! Children’s Adoration CHILDREN and PARENTS are invited to the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel whenever they can stop in for a visit. On the First Sunday of each month, from 4 to 5 PM, there is a special hour of adoration that is for children and their parents. It is so important that our children spend quiet time with Jesus which can help them develop a solid relationship with the Son of God! Jesus wants His Little Children to know Him so well that they can start their morning prayer by saying, “Good morning, Jesus, hope you had a good night. What are you doing today?” If your child can speak to Jesus like this, they are off to a good start! And if they can actually hear His reply with the ears of their hearts, the parents won’t have to worry about their little ones and not-so-little ones at all. Questions about adoration? Call Barb Brock (630) 335-7704 Do you have a special rosary that needs minor repair? Please bring your broken rosary to the Welcome Desk and leave it in one of the special envelopes. Someone will pick them up and return them in a few weeks. Be sure to label the envelope with your name, phone number/email and what needs to be done to the rosary. PLEASE NOTE: • • This is intended for rosaries made with chain (knotted rosaries cannot be repaired). If there are missing beads, please attempt to locate new matching beads first and include them. We can replace any of broken or metal parts. Ourparishisblessedtohaveaprayerchapelthat isopenforyoutovisitatanytime—dayornight. Please stop in for a visit with Jesus. For confidential information about or to register for the September program beginning with a weekend on September 9 – 11 call 815-246-2080 or email: [email protected] or visit the website at http://www.HelpOurMarriage.com Lighthouse Catholic Media We ask for a donation of $4.00/book, $3.00/CD, $2.00/booklet and $0.50/pamphlet so that we may continue this program. It's profound to consider what hangs in the balance when we share our faith with others. Patrick Madrid, in his highly engaging manner, speaks from a lifetime of experience to help Catholics effectively share the truth about Christ and his Church whenever the opportunity arises. Parishioner Comments: Patrick's talk encouraged me to share my faith with others on a daily basis. Janet - Ottawa, ON Fantastic! This message is not only relevant, but invaluable for Catholics giving witness to the Faith today. Brian - Fort Meade, MD Questions of the Week First Reading: Wisdom 18:6-9 Second Reading: Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 or 11:1-2, 8-12 Gospel Reading: Luke 12:32-48 or 12:35-40 1. Faith has been described as “a way of leaning into life.” As a disciple, in what do you place your faith? Do you habitual actions reflect a disciple’s faith? 2. Often faith requires that we find our way through a period that seems bleak. How did you witness to others at a time in your life when it was your faith that sustained you and led you to a better place? 3. The news of the day can lead disciples to think that our efforts at working for peace and justice or for helping the poor are futile. This week, how will you be faithful to working to promote peace and justice even when the promises of the Kingdom seem obscured? SES Hospitality Sunday Coffee and Donut Coordinator The Parish Life Commission has an immediate need for a new Sunday Coffee and Donut Coordinator. This per son would be responsible for setting up weekly volunteers to host the serving of donuts, juice and coffee after the 8:30 A.M. and 10:00 A.M masses each week. In addition they would coordinate the ordering and pick up of the refreshments weekly. For our annual St. Elizabeth Seton’s The service has become a special tradition at St. Elizabeth Seton, as we build a stronger community and get to know each other better each week! We have been given the affectionate title, “The Donut Church,” from some of our youth! It is a vital expression of our claim to be a welcoming, hospitable, faith community. Saturday, December 3rd: 6pm-8pm Sunday, December 4th: 9:30am-3pm If you are interested in fulfilling this valuable ministry or know someone that would be, please contact Debbie Kosmach, Parish Life Commission Chairperson, at [email protected] for more information. **NEW THIS YEAR** EARLY BIRD SPECIAL REGISTRATION PRICING!!! [email protected] Any questions, call Donna at 416-3325 ST. VINCENT de PAUL ASSISTANCE NEEDED A gentleman has asked if anyone in our parish needs a painter. He is considered the working poor. He has a job, the pay of which makes him ineligible for public aid of any kind – no food stamps, no section 8, no food pantries. He is willing to work painting on his off work hours in order to pay for any extra expenses that he incurs. Right now his old car is in need of repairs. (He really needs another car if anyone happens to have an extra.) In the past SVdP received 3 cars from generous parishioners (our angels) who helped 3 clients overcome transportation obstacles so they could get to their jobs. This gentleman is asking for work – any painting job he can do to put his car in working order so he can get to his toll booth job. A good car would be an added bonus. Special Appeal - St. Raphael St. Raphael Catholic Church of Naperville is currently accepting applications for funds to be used for organizations in ministry. The Special Appeal is an annual collection held during the Advent season and traditionally given to deserving ministries outside the parish. Funding is made available for not-for-profit groups such as, church ministries, social agencies, peace and justice organizations. The one-time grant is intended to be used as seed money for a new program, rather than for maintenance of existing programs. In the past, Special Appeal collections have averaged $15,000-$21,000. A committee of parishioners of St. Raphael Church will select the Special Appeal recipient. To qualify, the ministry applying must fit the criteria established by the committee.
