NEWSLETTER OF VENTANA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The Results Are In!
Thanks to so many of you for turning in the Family Survey. We had a record 55% return
rate! Survey results will appear in a future edition of Ventana Vistas.
Dress Code Reminder
You received a copy of the Student Dress Code in the Parent-student Handbook at the
beginning of the school year. As the weather is heating up, please keep in mind the
following guidelines:
• Shirts must cover the torso and have straps that are at least two-fingers in width.
• Shoes should be safe for work and play. Sandals should have a back and/or a strap
across the foot. “Flip-flops” are not safe footwear, and therefore are not permitted.
• Shorts or skirts should not be excessively tight or short. A rule of thumb is that
they should be longer than one’s fingertips when arms are at the side.
School Attendance
We seem to be having more and more students leaving school for extended periods of
time for trips or vacations. Please keep in mind that regular school attendance is a very
strong, contributing factor to student achievement. When children are present, they obtain
significant concepts and information that they are unlikely to acquire when absent, even
with “make-up” work. Students have the opportunity to participate in discussions, to
process the current instructional concepts, link them to past learning, and then predict
what may happen next.
What can you do to teach your child the importance of school attendance?
• Discuss with your child the importance of attending school, and the role that
education plays in success. Provide specific examples.
• Ensure that your child is in school; avoid excuses for “missing” or arriving after
the instructional day begins.
• Avoid scheduling trips and appointments during school time, unless absolutely
necessary.
Of course, if your child is ill, please keep him/her home. A child who has had a
temperature of over 100 degrees should be fever free for 24 hours without medication
before coming back to school.
Thank you for contributing to your child’s success by establishing the fact that attendance
is critical.

Second Grade in the Home Stretch
Second Grade students have made great progress
this year! It’s hard to believe that the year is almost
over! Second Grade has been very busy reading
biographies and learning about the lives of many
famous people including Henry Ford, Alexander
Graham Bell, and the Wright Brothers. They have
been doing exciting research projects about famous
people and body systems. In math, students
continue to practice math facts on a regular basis as
they prepare to solve one hundred addition and
subtraction facts in five minutes! Students have
finally learned about all Six-Traits of writing, and
they are busy writing personal narratives and
imaginary stories using the five steps of the writing
process. We are getting ready for our exciting field
trip to the Desert Museum on April 16th. The
second graders are going to have a wonderful
experience learning about desert plants and animals
and how they adapt to the environment they live in.
The second grade team hopes everyone had a fun
and relaxing Spring Break. There are only a few
short weeks left, let’s finish the year off strong!!!
Linda Deputy, Stacy Hoefer and Barbara Snapp
And, your children will not leave the safe, secure
school environment to be transported off campus!

CATALINA FOOTHILLS HIGH
SCHOOL Grad Night 2008
Seuss on the Loose
Grad Night, held (May 22–23, 2008) is a substance-free, all night celebration for CFHS graduating seniors.
Parents of seniors are NOT allowed to be at the event. Therefore, we rely upon parents of non-seniors to
work in shifts throughout the night. We know you will have a wonderful time, especially knowing that this
event was created to keep our graduates safe. This event could not possibly happen without parent
volunteers generously donating their time.
The choice of duties and shifts follows. Please feel free to share this email with your significant other and
friends. Having a student at CFHS is not a pre-requisite to volunteer – this is a great way to join
together the entire foothills community and to introduce YOU to the High School.

Shuttle volunteers, using your own vehicle, between La Paloma Corporate Center (on Sunrise) and CFHS.
2) Entertainer/Carnival Set-Up

between courses and getting the grads other things they may need during dinner (more water, salad

5) Male Waiters 7:30 - 12PM
Pour the toast, carry the food trays to the tables and assist in serving the grads dinner.

To save time and printing costs, all correspondence with volunteers is via email. Instructions (including

initial e-mail, but please keep me advised if you change e-mail address between now and the event.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or phone 299-3231.
