As the definition goes, it is the “Cooperative effort by
the members of a group or team to achieve a common
goal.”
Teamwork is extremely important to the success of any
team, be it school, sports or work. We can accomplish
a lot by working together. However, it’s easier said than
done! How many of us can really claim to be good
teammates? I am sure there have been situations when
the team you're in just doesn’t get along?
Why is it so important to work together?
Team managers spend considerable time just to
ensure there is coordination and cooperation amongst
team members. Often it is observed that some team
members are more aggressive and thereby try to
push their way around and there are some who are
very passive and just follow what others say and gets
pushed about! Both are unhealthy for a successful
team.

Perfect example of team work was shown in the movie
‘Chak de India’. We saw the coach working hard to
unite the team. Each had their own agenda but the
coach made them realise their potential as a ‘united
team’ and made them focus to have a common goal.
We all know the result of this…The team went on to
win the game!
All team members have talents and it is good to bring
out everyone’s ideas and work together with the
best idea. These days, in organizations, besides the
team leader there are additional people who work at
keeping teams together. HR has a separate team called
Employee Relations executives who spend a lot of time
pacifying upset team members and keeping them
together. You see… team clashes often lead to attrition
and that’s something all want to avoid!

Respect: It is essential to understand and respect
others in the team. One can minimize conf licts by
having respect for each other’s competencies,
opinions and actions. This will enhance
productivity.
Strong leadership: It is important to have an
efficient leader, one who gives importance to
team goals over his individual goals. One who is
capable of showing direction and ensuring that the
team members remain focused towards the goal.
Be Helpful: Help your teammates and your leader.
If your peer is stuck with an issue, assist in solving
the issue. However, keep in mind that you don’t
do all his / her work or you might neglect your
own duties!
Participate / Communicate: It is important that you
participate wholeheartedly in conference calls,
meetings / discussions. Do speak your mind freely
without being rude. Allow others to give their
suggestions too. Listen with interest. Don’t be the

Gram Dal

- 200 gms
- 150 gms

METHOD
• Poornam: Boil gram-dal until half-cooked and drain the water. Add Jaggery,
grated coconut, cardamom and grind.
• Make it thick by heating and stirring in low heat for a little while. Make this
into round balls.
• Add a pinch of salt to media and knead it by adding a few tsp of oil. Leave
this for half-hour. Make small sized balls of this and pat it on a plastic sheet
into round flat shape.
• Place a ball of poornam on it, mix well and pat it again.
• Heat a griddle, put the poli and add a spoon of ghee around it. Turn over until
both sides are cooked well. Add a tsp of melted ghee on it and serve hot.
TIPS
1. When cooking the dal, use a large pot to prevent it from boiling over, as
this can happen very easily.
2. Cooked Puran Poli can be stored for a week in the refrigerator. Re-heat over
a skillet or in the toaster oven. VARIATION
Pooram Poli can also be prepared using Chana dal, however, it has to cook for
