ACADEMIC EXHIBITION
Acharya Nagarjuna University organized an Academic Exhibition in the campus during January 1-2,
2014, which evoked tremendous response from the students. In all, 46 departments in the university and
affiliated colleges participated in the exhibition, which served to elicit the latent talent and creativity in the
students. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao inaugurated the exhibition which was presided over by
the Rector Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah. Present in the Inaugural were the Registrar Prof. P. Rajasekhar, the
Principals of the University Colleges Prof. M. Madhusudhana Rao, Prof. P.P.S. Paul Kumar, Prof. E. Sreenivasa
Reddy, Prof. Prameela Rani and the OSD Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao. The Dean, College Development Council,
Prof. G.V. Chalam was the Convenor of the Academic Exhibition, the third one to be held in the campus. A
large number of students from schools and colleges visited the stalls on both the days.
The Chief Guest for the Valedictory was Mr. Nagababu, DRO, who appreciated the efforts of the
students in showcasing their innovative ideas and designing their exhibits.

WATER PLANT INAUGURATION
Sri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, M.P., inaugurated
a Mineral Water Plant near the Univeristy Arts building at a
cost of Rs. 4.10 lakhs, sanctioned from MP LADS on 32-2014. Present in the programme were the ViceChancellor Prof. K.V. Rao, the Rector Prof. Y.P.
Ramasubbaiah, the Registrar Prof. P. Rajasekhar, the
University Engineer Sri Kumar Raja, and other staff.
Prof. Michal Piasecki, Professor in Physics and
Prof. Margaret Piasecki, Professor in Psychology of Jan
Dlugosz University, Czestochowa, Poland, visited the
University on 17th March, 2014 and discussed with the
University authorities the possibility of collaboration with
the Departments of Physics, Biotechnology, English and
Business Management of the University.
Prof. Michal Piasecki also delivered a talk on “NonLinear optical properties of glass ceramic materials” in the
Physics Department on 18th March, 2014.

NATIONAL SEMINAR IN JOURNALISM
National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics, ANU Ongole
Campus, organized a National Seminar on Emerging
Trends In Mathematics and Its Applications during 6-7
March, 2014, sponsored by UGC & AP State Council of
Higher Education. The seminar was inaugurated by the
Chief Guest Prof. Y. R. Haragopal Reddy, former ViceChancellor of ANU. Prof. P. Rajasekhar, Registrar of ANU,
presided over the function. Dr. M. Gnaneswara Reddy, the
Director of the Seminar, spoke on the theme of the seminar
while Prof. N. Bhaskar Reddy delivered the keynote
address.
Prof.Y.P. Rama Subbaiah, Rector of the
University, presided over the Valedictory function while
Prof. P.V. Arunachalam, former Vice-Chancellor of
Dravidian University, delivered the valedictory address.
The Department of Journalism and Mass
Communication, Acharya Nagarjuna University,
conducted a National Seminar on The Changing
Dimensions of Public Relations on March 3rd, 2014.
The Seminar was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor
Prof. K.V.Rao while Prof. C.K. Sardana and Dr.
C.V.Narasimha Reddy were the Guests of Honour and
Mr.Johnson Choragudi, Regional Joint Director, was the
Keynote speaker.
The Seminar was organised by Dr.G. Anita, Coordinator of the Department. Many academicians,
Research Scholars, Students and other PR professionals
from different states participated in this seminar.
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS
NATIONAL SEMINAR IN DEPT. OF HRM
A UGC sponsored National Seminar on Agraian
Issues and Challenges in Andhra Pradesh was
conducted on March 22-23, 2014 by the Department of
Economics with Prof. P. Narasimha Rao, as the Seminar
Director. This seminar had eight technical tracks and 97
papers were received. Prof. K. V. Rao, Vice-Chancellor,
presided over the inaugural function and Sri Y.
Nagendranath, President of Andhra Pradesh Rythanga
Samakhya, was the Chief Guest while Sri Y. Sanjiv
Rangrrass, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Limited,
delivered the keynote adders. Around 150 delegates
attended the seminar from across the country.
The Bommidala Department of Human Resource
Management organized a National Seminar on Emerging
Trends in Industrial Relations during 22-23 February
2014. The Chief Guest was Dr. Bommidala Sri Krishna
Murthy while the keynote speaker was Sri Ravi
Srinivasan. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao presided
over the Inaugural function.
A Book entitled Empowerment of Women in India
(New Strategies) edited by Dr. Nagaraju Battu with Dr.
V. Tulasi Das and V.N. Nirmala as Associate Editors,
was released in the Inaugural Session.
CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION
Centre for Distance Education, Acharya Nagarjuna University, received permission from the Southern Regional
Committee, NCTE, Bangalore, in the month of March 2014 to commence M.Ed. course with 250 seats under distance
mode from the academic year 2014-15.

National Seminar on the "Status of Tribal Women
in India"
National Seminar on “NGOs and Civil Society in
the Era of Globalization”
The Department of Sociology and Social Work
organized a UGC National Seminar on The Status of Tribal
Women In India: Issues, Challenges and Strategies for
Empowerment during 7th -8th February, 2014. The Chief
Guest for the Inaugural was Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.
Viyyanna Rao and Prof. M. Lakshmipathi Raju gave the
Keynote Address. University Rector Prof. Y.P. Rama
Subbaiah, Registrar Prof. P. Rajasekhar, OSD Prof. A.V.
Dattatreya Rao, and Principal, University College of Arts,
Commerce and Law Prof. M. Madhusudhana Rao, were
the Guests of Honour. Prof. B. Sambasiva Rao, Dean,
Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the Inaugural
programme of the Seminar. Sri Devara Vasu, Special Guest,
delivered the lead lecture while delegates of several states
presented the papers. Dr. M. Trimurthi Rao, was the Director
of the Seminar.
The Department of Sociology and Social Work
organized a UGC National Seminar on NGOs and Civil
Society in the Era of Globalization, in ANU Campus
during 18th -19th March, 2014. The Chief Guest was Dr.
Arun Kumar K. Mohanty, Director, AMG India
International, Chilakaluripet, while Keynote Address was
given by Prof. R. D. Sampath Kumar, Dept. of Social Work,
Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and the President of
the Seminar was Prof. Y.P. Rama Subbaiah, Rector, ANU.
More than 150 participants from various Universities,
affiliated Colleges, NGO’s attended the Seminar and
presented 84 papers. The Chief Guest for the valedictory
was Prof. P. Rajasekhar, Registrar, ANU, and the
valedictory address was given by Prof. C. Venkata
Chelam Periyar, University Salem. Dr. M. Trimurthi Rao,
Coordinator, Dept. of Sociology and Social Work was the
Director of the Seminar.
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
National Seminar on Environmental Management
Director, NEDCAP, Guntur. Prof. G.R. K. Naidu, Sri
Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Prof. C. Rambabu,
Principal, University College of Sciences, Prof. E.U.B. Reddi
and Prof. Z. Vishnuvardhan, also spoke on the occasion.
The valedictory function was presided over by Prof. Y.P.
Ramasubbaiah, Rector, ANU, while Sri M. Anjaneyulu,
Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, Kolkata, was the
Chief Guest. Sri Anjaneyulu honoured the members of the
Uppalapadu Bird Protection Committee. Dr. A.V.V.S. Swamy
was the Director and Dr. P. Brahmaji Rao was the
Organising Secretary of the Seminar.
Workshop on Science
The Dept. of Environmental Sciences conducted
an interactive Workshop on Science and Society in
collaboration with Delhi Science Forum and Jana Vignana
Vedika on 7 th March, 2014. Dr. Prabir Purkayastha,
Chairman of Delhi Science Forum, moderated the
workshop. Co-ordinator of the Dept. Dr. A.V.V.S. Swamy,
Dr. Suresh, Chairman, Jana Vignana Vedika, Guntur District
and Dr. P. Brahmaji Rao, participated in the workshop.
The Dept. of Environmental Sciences, ANU,
organised a National Seminar on Renewable Energies,
Ecosystems and Sustainable Environmental
Management on 20-21 February, 2014. Prof. K. Viyyanna
Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, in his inaugural address,
delineated the efforts made by the University to utilise solar
energy. The Chief Guest was Sri E. Narasimhulu, IFS, Chief
Conservator of Forests (Planning & Extension) Guntur, and
the Guest of Honour was Sri G. Haranadh Babu, Project

BUDDHIST STUDIES SEMINAR
INSPIRE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Centre for Mahayana Buddhist Studies
organized a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on
Buddhist Applied Philosophy during January 30-31, 2014
in the campus. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao
presided over the Inaugural session while the Chief Guest
was Prof. P.R. Bhat, IIT Mumbai. Also present were Dr.
Arun Kumar Mohanty, Director, AMG International,
Chilakaluripet and Sri Gadde Mangaiah, the Rector Prof.
Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, the Coordinator of the Centre Dr.L.
Udayakumar, staff and students of the University.
ANU College of Sciences conducted INSPIRE
Internship programme during 29th March-2nd April 2014.
150 intermediate students who scored more than 90% as
per the guidelines from different colleges had registered
for the programme. In the inaugural function of the 5 day
Programme Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU,
Prof. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, ANU,
Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Rector, ANU, were present. The
Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. G. Rajarami
Reddy, Professor of Zoology and Vice-Chancellor, V.S.
University, Nellore, on “Trends in Neuro Science”.
NANO – TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR

The Department of Nano-Technology organized a
UGC National Workshop on Advances in Material
Processing during 28th-29th March 2014 in the university
campus. Prof. N. Veeraiah presided over the inaugural
function graced by Prof. K.V. Rao Vice-Chancellor, ANU
and Prof. Y. R. Haragopal Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor,
ANU. The Resource Persons for the Workshop were Prof.
S. Suryanarayana Rao, Dept. of Physics, IIT, Hyderabad;
Dr. I. Sreekanth, Scientist, DRDO, Hyderabad; and Prof.
N. Veeraiah, Dept. of Physics, HCU, Hyderabad. Dr. M.
Rami Reddy, Co-ordinator, Department of Nano-Technology
was the Convener for the Workshop attended by
researchers and students from various departments and
organizations.
Prof. C. Rambabu was the Convener and Prof.
K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao the Organizing Secretary of the
programme.
BIOTECHNOLOGY SEMINAR
Department of Biotechnology conducted a National
Seminar & Workshop on Genomics and Proteomics: An
Informatics Approach on 24th& 25th March 2014. ViceChancellor Prof K.V.Rao, inaugurated the seminar and Keynote address was delivered by Prof. C. Suresh Kumar from
Sri Krishna Devaraya University. Director of the Seminar &
Workshop Dr.A.Krishna Satya presented the theme of the
Workshop which had four technical sessions.

YOUTH FESTIVAL
ANU COLLEGE OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES
National Workshop
Acharya Nagarjuna University organized the Youth
Festival in the campus during January 7-9, 2014 in which
students from more than 50 colleges of Guntur and
Prakasam districts took part. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V.
Rao inaugurated the Youth Festival. The Chief Guest was
Sri P.V. Sunil Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IG),
Guntur Range, advised the students to set high goals in
order to reach good positions as per the expectations of
their parents.
Students vied with one another in competitions
conducted in theatre, fine arts, dance, quiz, music, literary
events and spot photographs. The Coordinator of the Youth
Festival was Prof. M. Madhusudhana Rao, Principal of the
College of Arts, Commerce and Law, while Dr. S. Murali
Mohan was the Assistant Coordinator.
The Chief Guest for the Valedictory of the Youth
Festival was Sri A. R. Laya, who regaled the audience
with songs rendered through whistling. Another guest was
Ms. Anjana Soumya who enlivened the evening with her
singing.
A UGC sponsored National Workshop was
organised during 14th -15th March, 2014 at ANU College
of Pharmaceutical Sciences on Role of Modern
Instrumentation Techniques in Current Concepts of
Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao,ViceChancellor, ANU, presided over the inaugural function and
Dr.T.V.Narayana, Indian Pharmaceutical Association,
Education Division Chairman and PCI member, was the
Chief Guest. Dr. Narayana spoke of the need for pharmacy
colleges to have tie-up with industries for providing field
exposure for the budding pharmacists. Prof.A.Prameela
Rani, Principal of the college, was the Workshop Convener.
Staff members, students and representatives from various
industries displayed latest equipment. 250 members from
different affiliated colleges participated in the Workshop.

NON- TEACHING STAFF NEWS
Retirement
The following Non-Teaching Staff have retired from
service on attaining superannuation. The Non-Teaching
Staff Association felicitated them in acknowledgement of
the services rendered by them. The University wishes them
a happy retired life.

Group of Industries, was installed on the premises of ANU
College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on March 28, 2014.

Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, ANU, recalled the
unforgettable services rendered by Dr.G.S.Raju to the
pharmacy field and his generous donations to the university.

The Dept. of Environmental Sciences of the ANU
College of Sciences celebrated the World Forest Day on
21st March 2014 in the campus. The keynote speaker was
Dr. T. Patanjali Sastri, environment protection activist and
President, Center for Environment, Rajahmundry. The
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao, Prof. C. Rambabu,
Principal, ANU College of Sciences, Prof. K.R.S.
Sambasiva Rao, Dr. P. Brahmaji Rao, Head of the
Department and members of the Environment Protection

MARTYRS’ DAY
ANU observed the Martyrs’
Day on January 30, 2014 on the
occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s
Death Anniversary. In a meeting
organized by the Centre for
Gandhian Studies, the ViceChancellor led the university staff in
paying homage to the great leader
who had inspired countless people
the world over. Prof. M.V. Ramkumar
Ratnam, Coordinator of the Centre,
faculty and students were present.
Acharya Nagarjuna University organized the 65th
Republic Day celebrations on 26-01-2014 in a grand
manner. The day was marked by the enthusiastic
participation of teams from university departments and
affiliated colleges in the Republic Day parade. In the
programme coordinated by the Principal of ANU College
of Engineering & Technology Prof. E. Sreenivasa Reddy,
the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao gave a clarion call for
youth and students to contribute to the progress of the
nation. Other university officials, staff and students
participated in the celebrations. Prizes were given away
to the best performing teams in the Parade.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Centre for Women’s Studies, ANU, organized the
celebrations of International Women’s Day (March 8) on
29th March, 2014. As per the tradition of the University, the
Centre honoured the first generation playback singer and
film actress Smt. Rao Balasaraswathi Devi with Visishta
Mahila Puraskar. Vice - Chancellor Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao
presided over the function while Prof. V. Chandra Sekhar
Rao, Principal, ANU College of Arts, Commerce and Law
and Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao, Officer on Special Duty,
graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. Smt.
Ratnamala, eminent feminist writer and activist from
Hyderabad, and Dr. V. Jyothi, academician from Guntur,
also spoke on the occasion. A large number of staff and
students participated in the programme. Prof. Ch. Swaroopa
Rani, Director of Centre for Women’s Studies, explained
about the activities of the Centre.

Prof. N. Vijaya Ratnam, Dept. of Commerce &
Business Administra-tion, was felicitated on 04-02-2014
on the occasion of his superannuation by the Department
faculty, and students. His services to the university in
various positions, in particular, as Coordinator, NSS Cell,
ANU, were lauded. The university officials wished him a
peaceful retired life.
Dr. M. Satyanarayana, Dept. of Telugu, retired
from service on 31-1-2014 on attaining superannuation.
He was felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor and the
Department staff and students in a function arranged on
the occasion. The university placed on record the services

ANU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
MOTR Project
ISRO SHAR has sanctioned a prestigious project to ANU on designing a “Multi Object Tracking Radar (MOTR)”
to be used in space and defense applications.
ANU has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the SDSC-SHAR to design the MOTR,
becoming the first university in the country to have a tie-up with the SDSC-SHAR in designing indigenous Radar. India is
the fourth nation in the world, after U.S.A, Japan & Germany to design MOTRs.

March, 2014. Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor was
the Chief Guest and Dr. A. Kodanda Ramaiah, Deputy
Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, (Retd.), Andhra
Pradesh, and Sri D. Vijaya Kumar, Mimicry Artist and
Ventriloquist were the Guests of Honour for the programme.

COLLEGE DAY - ANU ONGOLE CAMPUS
College Day celebrations of ANU Ongole campus were conducted
in Ongole on 18th March, 2014. The Chief Guest of the function was
G.S.R.K.R. Vijay Kumar, Collector and District Magistrate, while the
Chairperson was Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU. Warm
felicitations to the Collector were offered by Prof. K. Viyanna Rao and
faculty of ANU Ongole Campus in the function.

CENTRE FOR STUDIES IN AFRO-ASIAN PHILOSOPHIES – LECTURES
Prof. Dhruv Raina of JNU, New Delhi, delivered a lecture under the aegis of Prof.
K.Satchidananda Murty Centre for Studies in Afro-Asian Philosophies on the theme “Opening
the Pandora’s Box of Social Theory” on January 2nd, 2014. He explained how Needham's
theory changed the very paradigm of writing the history of science. The programmme is the
third in the series organized by the Centre which was presided over by Prof.K.V.Rao, ViceChancellor of the University.
Prof.M.S.S.Pandian of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, delivered a talk
on "Caste and Democracy" under Occasional Lecture Series organised by Prof.
K.Satchidananda Murty Centre for Studies in Afro-Asian Philosophies on March 24th, 2014.
The old understanding of the relationship between caste and democracy as being
irreconcilably opposed to each other needs to be looked at with a critical eye, said
Dr.Pandian. The meeting was chaired by Prof.K.V.Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Prof.A.Rama Murthy, delivered the third Memorial Lecture in memory of late Prof.
K.Satchidananda Murty organized by Acharya Nagarjuna University on January 24th, 2014.
The concept of the Brahman as elucidated by both western and eastern traditions, if properly
interpreted, can easily remove divisive and separatist tendencies prevailing among the
people, he said, in a well-attended meeting, chaired by Prof.K.V.Rao, Vice-Chancellor of
the university.
ENDOWMENT LECTURE
The following Endowment Lecture was conducted by the Co-ordinator Prof. M.V.
Ramkumar Ratnam during the period January – March 2014.
Dr. S.N.Subba Rao, Director, National Youth Project, New Delhi, delivered the
Second Davuluri Ramakotaiah Endowment lecture for the Promotion of Peace,
Values and Human Rights entitled “A Great India is Possible” on 11th February, 2014 at
ANU Campus. Prof. K.V. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, presided over the Lecture.

Peaceful Earth Foundation conducted a seminar for I/IV
B. Tech. students on January 31st to bring awareness about
green earth.
A technical symposium for B. Tech. students was
conducted on March 15th - 16th in which the Chief Guest Sri
K. Ravi Krishna, President of Petro-facts, Chennai, offered to
provide internship for students of all branches in their company.
600 students participated in the programme.
“Swecha” organization conducted a national symposium
on “Usage of Free Software” on March 6th-7th for Engineering
students in the campus. A member from Microsoft company
addressed the students about internet security, android

NSS ACTIVITIES (JANUARY - MARCH 2014)
SPECIAL CAMPS
During the period from 1st Jan’ to 31st Mar’2014, nearly
100 NSS Special Camping Programmes were organized at
different adopted villages/slum areas spread over Guntur
and Prakasam districts by NSS units of ANU Colleges.
NSS Winter Special Camping Programmes
The NSS Units I & II of Govt. Women’s College,
Guntur, organized NSS special camping programme from
14.03.2014 to 20.03.2014 at their adopted village
Agatavarappadu, Pedakakani Mandal, Guntur district.
During the 7 day programme, AIDS awareness rally, clean
& green, medical awareness, socio-economic survey,
women empowerment, literacy campaign, environmental
awareness, health hazards of smoking and alcohol, etc.,
were organized with the support and involvement of local
people. The inaugural programme was attended by
Dr.K.Sumanth Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell,
ANU, Dr. Sasi Bala, In-charge, Principal, Govt. Women’s
College, Guntur, Dr. Rajarajeshwari, Programme Officer,
NSS Unit-I, Dr.Prashanthi, Programme Officer, NSS UnitII, staff members of Govt. Women’s College and village
elders.
The NSS Unit-I of ANU College of Arts, Commerce
& Law, had organized NSS special camping programme
from 24.03.2014 to 30.03.2014 at their adopted village Kaza,
Guntur district. Programmes such as socio-economic
survey, awareness on human diseases, voluntary blood
donation, AIDS, clean and green, plantation of 500 different
varieties of saplings, clean/repair of the drainage at
Scheduled Caste colony were successfully organized. The
inaugural programme was graced by Dr.M.Radhakrishna
Murthy, Chairman, Hindu College of Pharmacy, Guntur as
Chief guest and Prof. Chandrasekhar, Vice-Principal, ANU
College of Arts, Commerce & Law, Dr.K.Sumanth Kumar,
Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, ANU, Dr. Ravi Kumar,
NSS Programme Officer, Kaza Village Secretary and others.
‘NSS-Special Adventure Training Camp’ at Manali. (HP)
The University NSS team participated in the NSSSpecial Adventure Training Camp held at Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports
(ABVIMAS), Manali, Himachal Pradesh, from 1st to 10th
January, 2014. Sri M. Sudhakar, NSS Programme Officer
of R.V.R & J.C College of Engineering, Chowdavaram,
Guntur, acted as contingent leader. NSS volunteers (3 boys)
and (3 girls) were deputed for the NSS special adventure

The NSS volunteers had undergone training in different
mountaineering activities such as river crossing, rappelling,
rock climbing, ice skiing, trekking, camping, jungle craft. The
adventure training was conducted in the wilderness of the
Himalayas including trekking of 60 Km., and attaining 9000
feet height.
Release of NSS Grants
Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, had
released 2nd installment grant for conducting NSS Special
Camping Programme of different NSS units operating at
Guntur and Prakasam districts. Each NSS Unit had
received an amount of Rs.22, 500/- for special camping
programme.

National Seminar on Physical Education
The College of Physical Education conducted a
State-wide Workshop on the Revised Modalities for
PECET Tests and Common Core Syllabus for
U.G.D.P.Ed., B.P.Ed & M.P.Ed. Courses in the State and
Physical Efficiency Tests for Qualified DSC Candidates
on 23rd & 24th January, 2014 under the auspices of A.P. State
Council of Higher Education and with Dr.P.P.S.Paul Kumar,
as Convener, PECET-2013. In the Inaugural session for
this workshop Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice- Chancellor, ANU
acted as a Chairman, while Prof.P.Vijay Prakash, ViceChairman, A.P.State Council of Higher Education,
Hyderabad, was Chief Guest, and Prof.Sunderraj Urs,
Professor in Physical Education, Bangalore University,
Bangalore, was the Special Guest. Prof.Y.P.Ramasubbaiah,
Rector, ANU, Prof. P. Rajasekar, Registrar, Prof. K.
Venkateswarulu from Nigeria, Former Directors of Physical
Education in A.P., and present Directors of Physical
Education in A.P., attended as Guests of Honour.
For the Closing ceremony, Prof. Y. P. Ramasubbaiah,
Rector, ANU, acted as Chairman, while Prof. Sunderraj
Urs, Professor in Physical Education, Bangalore University,
was the Special Guest.
The ANU College of Physical Education conducted a
UGC Sponsored National Seminar on the Emerging Trends
in Physical Education & Sports Sciences on 11th & 12th
February 2014 with the collaboration of National Association
of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (NAPESS). For
the Inaugural Prof. Y. Kishore, Dean & Director of Physical
Education, ANU acted as a Chairman, and Prof. K.
Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, as Chief Guest while
Prof.P.Chinnapa Reddy, President, NAPESS, and Sri M.V.
Pardhasarathi, Deputy General Manager, Andhra Bank,
Guntur Zone were Special Invitees. The Rector, the
Registrar, Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao, OSD, ANU, Sri. N.V.
Narasimham, Senior Branch Manager, Andhra Bank, ANU,
and others were present. 285 participants attended this
conference and 153 papers were presented.
For this conference Dr. P.P.S. Paul Kumar, Principal,
UCPESS, ANU acted as Conference Director and Dr.
P.Johnson, Vice-Principal, UCPESS, ANU acted as
Conference Convener.
PECET-2014 Committee meeting
Convener, PECET -2014. The committee meeting was held
at ANU on 4 March, 2014 under the Chairmanship of
Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, A.N.U.
Prof.L.Venugopal Reddy, Chairman, A.P.State Council of
Higher Education, Hyderabad, released the schedule of
Physical Education Common Entrance Test (PECET)-2014.
NSNIS Six weeks certificate course – 2014
Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, has
allotted an extension center to ANU for the conduct of six
weeks certificate course in the following five games. These
courses are going to be conducted on the university campus
from 15 May to 24 June, 2014:
1. Athletics 2. Hockey 3. Kabaddi 4. Kho-Kho 5. Softball.
A.P. State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad has
entrusted the responsibility of conducting of Physical
Education Common Entrance Test (PECET-2014) to ANU,
once again. Prof.Y.Kishore, Dean, Faculty of Physical
Education, Yoga and Sports Sciences, was nominated as
Considering the remarkable Sports background of the
University and the available Sports Infrastructure, the
NSNIS, Patiala, has chosen ANU as a centre for the conduct
of the courses.

All India Inter-University Softball (Men&Women) Tournament 2013-14
ANU organised All India Inter-University Softball
(Men & Women) Tournament from 13th to 18th January,
2014. 50 Men Teams and 37 Women Teams from all over
the country participated in this prestigious tournament.
The tournament was inaugurated by Prof.K.Viyyanna
Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU. Smt.Sanjukta Raiguru, Deputy
General Manager, State Bank of India was the Special Guest
of the function. Prof.Y.P.Rama Subbaiah, Rector,
Prof.P.Raja Sekhar, Registrar, Sri CBR Prasad, President,
CBR Foundation for Sports, Vijayawada, Principals of ANU,
and O.S.D., A.N.U. graced the occasion. State Bank of India,
ANU Campus branch, sponsored an amount of Rs.5,00,000/- for the conduct of the Softball Tournament. This tournament

OTHER EVENTS
The University College of Physical Education conducted several other programmes:
* Conducted a Workshop on Yoga for Yoga Teachers in the University Area. Attended by nearly 300 yoga teachers.
* Conducted Inter-Collegiate Yoga (Men & Women) Tournament on 26th February 2014. It is the first time in the
University area.
* Conducted Mobilization Classes on Yoga Therapy for the University Campus Students in the month of March.
* Conducted FSTO Examination regarding Athletics with the collaboration of Federation State Technical Officials on
17th & 18th March 2014.
