Tucked between the vast Pacific Ocean and the immense Lake
Nicaragua lies Rancho Santana, a remarkable residential community
and resort boasting some of the most exclusive surf breaks in Central
America. With over 300 days a year of off shore wind, and a perfectly
angled coastline, this Pacific swell is made into consistently ideal surf
conditions.
2700 acres of rolling hills and 5 unique beaches, there is something
for just about everyone here and best of all, the surf is insane just
right out front.
Facilities
The Ranch boasts two Clubhouses that each have their own pools
and are reserved for the exclusive use of owners and guests. In
addition, all the technological amenities of cell phone service, satellite
cable, and Internet and free Wifi are abundant. There is also a
conference center and boardroom for various uses.
Food
vvLa Finca y el Mar is Rancho Santana’s world-renowned restaurant.
The name translates into The Farm and The Sea, and this is based
on the farm to table concept the restaurant encompasses: often
serving ingredients grown in their garden or fished from the nearby
ocean.
Surf Spots/Beaches
Playa Santana (Jiquelite)
Playa Santanais a consistent beachbreak that functions best at high
tide and breaks at all sizes up to 8ft. The beach provides three main
peaks that are formed as the rock wall on the south end of the beach
sends out rebound waves that cross up incoming swell. Depending
on size, this wave can be great for all levels and can range from small
and playful to thick and hollow.
Playa Rosada
Making your way south along the reef from Playa Santana you will
find Playa Rosada, a small sandy cove named after the pinkish hue
of its sand. This left-handed screamer breaks left over a shallow rock
shelf and is more of an intermediate to advanced surf break. Rosada
works best at a lower tide and south angled swell and on just about
all swell sizes. This is one of the more picturesque setups in the
country just watch the drop as the take off can be steep and shallow
(no head first bail outs here).
Playa Escondida
Moving south to the next beach you will find Playa Escondida. True
to its name this one is a little harder to find and subsequently more
private than the rest. The beach is more protected than others in the
area and so receives less wave action and is therefore good for
swimming, snorkeling, and basking in the sun - on most
days. However, when the surf gets over eight feet everywhere else,
a perfect left forms over rock reef in the middle of the bay. at Playa
Escondida.
Playa Duna
Playa Duna demands some tough walking and step climbing, but this
beach rewards your efforts with stunning views and absolute privacy.
Playa Colorado
Rancho Santana’s southern boundary rests on the north end of Playa
Colorado. Guests can drive here, park, and then walk to either
Panga Drops (<5min) or the Colorado beach break (1015min). Other breaks like Popoyo and Astillero outside of the
community are accessible by car.
