There are even three great Christian
relics in the town at the foot of
Lovćen: the icon of Our Lady of
Philermos, the hand of Saint John
the Baptist and the particle from the
Holy Cross.
The hand of Saint John the Baptist

are kept in the treasury of Monastery
Cetinje, the center of Montenegrin
bishops. This monastery was built in
1701 on the foundations of the
church from 1484 destroyed in the
attacks of Otoman empire.
Our Lady of Philermos is kept in the
Blue Chapel in the building of the
Government House. This famous
icon has traveled long way to reach
Cetinje.

Njegusi – authentic village of Montenegro
In the mountainous rocky
areas there are numerous
interesting, scarcely populated
villages. The most famous one
is Njeguši, 4km from Kotor air
distance. 32 serpentines lead
the way from Kotor into a
completely different world.
Njeguši is also known as the
birth place of Petar II Petrović
Njegoš where his house still
rests.
Njegusi village is very special place because of it's well-preserved folk architecture,
but also because it continues the traditions of Montenegrin cuisine.

Njegusi – authentic village of Montenegro
Natural environment (enviable land fund, pastures, communes and water) predetermined the
basic occupation to be agriculture and livestock farming. Every piece of land was farmed
carefully. Houses were built at the sides and edges as there was constant struggle to tear off
as much farming land as possible from stone. They are enclosed by traditional dry stack
stone walls.

The monumental building of Government palace, better known as the building of the
Montenegrin parliament, after the World War I was called The Home of Freedom. The
building was made in 1919. year, by the project of the Italian architect Koradini for

At the very Jezerski vrh (Lake Peak), 1660m, as wished by Petar II Petrović Njegoš,
the chapel was built during his lifetime. Prince Danilo fulfilled his behest to rest
here, with the most distinguished Montenegrins carrying his remains to the summit,
to the kingdom of lightnings. But his peace was not disturbed by lightnings alone.
Jezerski vrh was first targeted by the Turks, and then Austrians, who brought the
chapel to ground in 1916. A new one was built in 1924, but, more importantly the
idea of construction of a more grandiose monument was born, designed by
sculptor Ivan Meštrović.
Mausoleum was opened in 1974. In order to reach it, one should go 20km from
Cetinje and then climb 461 stairs. That road, like pilgrimage, is a unique experience.

Wooden boat called “cun” making
Help one of the few local craftsmen to
make this wooden boat. Cun is usually
made from the highest quality wood. The
tradition of making wooden boats for the
lake has been passed from generation to
generation.
Two wooden oars are used for steering. A
lot of skill and experience is needed to steer
these boats, and although they may seem
shallow and unstable they are actually made
to effectively resist lake currents and
storms, but also to transport heavier and
bulky goods.

On the surface of 2200 ha of the Ćemovsko
field there are rows of grapevines stretching
far away. The most part belongs to the variety
“Vranac” originating from this area. Besides
it, there is autochthonous variety “Krstač” as
well as other well known varieties of the
world. About 22 000 tones of the grapes,
picked up annually, to which Mediterranean
sun, the rock of the Ćemovsko field and
waters of Lake Skadar give special,
permanent quality and recognizable taste.

It is located at a depth
below the surface of the
earth more than 30
meters. Wine cellar is in
the form of a tunnel, 356
meters long, the average
width of 13.5 m and height
6.5 m. The air temperature
is 17-19C, and humidity
70-80%.
In the wine cellar, covering about 7000 square meters, the curiosity is tending and aging of wine in
almost ideal and completely natural, climatic and technological conditions.
