We are eager to keep you informed about AlphaBet Club projects
Annual
Report 2012
Letter from the Founder
We're very pleased with our 2012 activities and results as we've seen substantial growth
in various areas that we consider important to the overall success of our operations and
the impact we're having in other's lives.
2012 was a year of many records for ABC. With regards to our [FUN]draising efforts,
we hosted a record 20 Events which generated record Events Revenue and Event
Attendance, with AlphaBet Club Madrid Event funds going to our India School Projects
for the first time. We hosted our first Gala Formal Event, called a Bangalorious Night,
with partners Rotary Club Amsterdam and Wilde Ganzen. This raised enough to fund the
opening of a new School (named Freesia – March 2013 opening) in Bangalore India as
well as a new School Bus for the project.
We are eager to keep you informed about
AlphaBet Club projects' successes and students:

In 2012, myself and various volunteers spent a lot of time in India working on our projects
with our partner Building Blocks. This was to improve the sustainability and quality of
our projects, while increasing the reach to more children in need. Many enhancements
were made including increasing enrollment to 100 children (from 80) with school days
extended from 4pm (previously 1pm). 32,973 nutritious meals, served free of charge to
our students has shown good changes to their size and overall health.
Operationally, ABC is proud to have been awarded the ANBI status by the Dutch Tax and
Customs Administration upon review of ABC's past Annual Financials and Business Plan.
Thanks to all ABC Donors, Volunteers, Partners & Friends for another great year of having
fun and making a difference.

Projects
AlphaBet Club has partnered with Building Blocks, a strong
charitable foundation located in Bangalore, India. We work
together to achieve common goals for the opening and operation of new schools next
to large urban slums in Bangalore.
Our Schools
We have more than 100 students enrolled in school (significant
increase since 2011, with 80 students and 2010 with 45
students). We provide classes for children ages 3 to 5, 6 days a week for a full 11-month
school year from June through May. Classes run Monday through Friday from 9am till
4pm (extended in 2012 from a 1pm finish) and a half-day on Saturdays.
Classes are led in English where children are taught sight-reading, simple arithmetic,
writing and motor skills development. Additionally, they engage in extracurricular
activities such as drama, art and music. Everyday in school, children are provided with
nutritious breakfasts, lunch and snacks.School materials are provided free of cost to
the students and their families.
Our schools have 8 fulltime staff members: 5 teachers, a cleaner, a principal and a
cook. Additionally, there is a team of support staff aiding with the school operations,
consisting of teacher trainers, accounting, IT, communications, social workers and more.
In early 2013, we are scheduled to open the Freesia school, our fourth AlphaBet Club
educational project and the second one in India. Freesia was funded in 2012, thanks to
the proceeds from the Bangalorious Night Gala. Additionally, AlphaBet Club is projected
to open a fifth school at the end of 2014 in collaboration with Building Blocks.

Excursions Bangalore
Many students have never left the slum. Never
experienced riding in a moving vehicle, an elevator,
or escalator. Other trips to the zoo, restaurant, or
event at a hotel are unique new experiences.
Our Nutrition Program
32,957 nutritious meals
served to students in 2012
at Edelweiss School, free of charge. These meals are breakfast and
lunch Monday to Friday, with breakfast only being served on Saturday.
Emphasis is for children to get nutrients and vitamins needed during
this important early development phase as many new students are
diagnosed with malnutrition that could stunt their growth.
Medical/Health Support
Medical check ups were
performed at the school with
medication provided, for free, for ailments encountered.
Our Students
The children in our schools,
are typically 1 of 2 or 3 kids
of parents ages 20-25. The average family income is around €140 a
month for a family of 5 to 6 living in a 9m2 sized home with asbestos
roofing and no running water. The children are typically malnourished,
underweight and need to be checked for parasites. Parents are
mostly illiterate, migrant laboring workers coming from rural
villages for work. They don’t speak the local language of Bangalore
(Kannada), nor Hindi or English, but only speak the language of their
region (Telegu, Tamil).

Additional Value ABC Provides
AlphaBet Club not only funds Educational Infrastructure projects,
but also actively works with local implementation partners to aid in
building out their capacities and in the overall sustainability of our
joint project and their organization.
This is done by daily interaction with the partner to monitor the
progress of each project as well as onsite visits in India for up to 3
months to not only ensure operational excellence of projects but
identify areas in which the projects can have greater impact on
each child, or can be extended to add value to more children.
Specific areas in which we add non financial value to our projects
and partners are: donor communications - video, photographic,
and written, financial reporting in addition to community, volunteer
and partner engagement.
Having a strong relationship and consistent communication is a
key pillar for us in the success of our projects. This enables us to
see how we can give a non financial added value to the project. This
takes places via email, phone/Skype, and on-site project visits.
For our current projects we are supporting Building Blocks / FDS,
an independent nonprofit organization, based in Bangalore, India
that has been opening and operating Schools in India for 8 years.

A Bangalorious Night
In October, Rotary Club Amsterdam International and AlphaBet
Club held a gala dinner at the Marriott Hotel. This included a
charity auction and raffle with prizes donated. Wilde Ganzen
Foundation supported our cause and matched a big part of the
revenues at the dinner. There were 150 attendees. In total we
raised €37.750 to start a new school and to buy a school bus.
The new Freesia School is set to be opened in March 2013.

201 2 Money raised for Charity
2012 was a strong year of fundraising for AlphaBet Club with 17 events and the
Gala dinner. At the Gala dinner in October (organized by Rotary Club Amsterdam
International and AlphaBet Club. And with financial support of Wilde Ganzen
foundation) we raised €37.750 to start a new school and to purchase a school bus.
The revenues of the Gala Dinner were directly sent to Wilde Ganzen then sent to our
partner Building Blocks. Thus revenues are not in the official P&L of AlphaBet Club.
