Golf Revenues –
June 2007
• Although Tim lost market share in June, his revenues were up by 2.5
per cent over his competitive set
• More importantly, Tim’s competitive set’s revenues actually went down by 4
per cent over the previous year
• Did courses in Tim’s marketplace discount their fees; did additional complimentary
rounds affect their revenues; OR…did Tim’s staff do a better job than the
competition at renting golf cars and/or managing complimentary rounds?
• Good news – looks like Tim’s staff might still get that bonus after all

• The graph shows a much different picture – a 5 per cent increase on it’s

• Apparently the courses in Tim’s competitive set are up by 9 per cent
• Tim’s actually losing market share when he thought he was doing so well
• From this, Tim just changed his decision to give his key staff a bonus this month
• Instead, Tim will use the ‘bonus’ money on a revised marketing plan!

You could hear them starting to use the
term ‘dude’ more often every passing
day…NGCOA Canada members and their
staff took a break this February from the
cold Canadian winter to head to the sunny
San Diego region of California.
The historic La Valencia Hotel provided
a unique backdrop for this year’s NGCOA
Canada Travel Club. Affectionately known
as “The Pink Lady”, La Valencia Hotel –
a landmark for over 80 years in the
spectacular community of La Jolla – is
undoubtedly a class act with ambience and
grandeur reminiscent of the 30’s & 40’s.
The hotel is perched atop the scenic cliffs
above La Jolla Cove where guests enjoyed
an incredible view from almost every angle
– including the nearby harbour seals
sunning on the beach.
Beyond beach walks and upscale
shopping in the trendy village, Travel Club
members experienced exceptional golf at
each of three host courses: Steele Canyon
- a challenging start; Mt Woodson - a
rugged, unique layout; and Torrey Pines the highlight event was a memorable experience, replete with spectacular ocean
views and hang gliders overhead! Less
than ideal conditions did not discourage
the “Crazy Canucks” who braved the
sheets of rain for a few holes, only to have
the sun shine for the remainder of the day.
With golf came the added benefit of
education, as each host facility provided
Travel Club members with a personal welcome along with a brief introduction and
history of their course. Of particular
interest was learning the substantial
preparations required to host the 2008 US
Open at Torrey Pines.
The few days Travel Club members
spent together reconfirmed how valuable
this event really is – a unique opportunity

In an effort to further
increase awareness and
help merchants understand their responsibility
toward securing credit
card data, Moneris has
developed a newsletter concerning cardholder data security.
This spring, Moneris
merchants received the newsletter
with their March statement. The newsletter
provides information regarding the
Payment Card Industry Data Security
Standard (PCI DSS) as well as the Visa™
Canada Association and MasterCard®
International Inc. (Card Associations)
compliance programs that enforce compliance to the PCI DSS. The purpose of
the newsletter is to communicate and
educate all merchants on data security.
As a merchant accepting credit
cards as a form of payment, you and any
of your service providers involving storing, processing, or transmitting credit
card transactions are required by the
Card Associations to comply with the PCI
DSS.
