Welcome
TO THE 11TH ANNUAL CHARLOTTE PREMIER CIO FORUM
It is our pleasure, along with our conference partners, to welcome you to the eleventh annual Premier CIO Forum
in Charlotte. We are excited to announce that Charlotte was recently chosen to be the site of the 2015 SIMposium
national conference!
With the Premier CIO Forum, attendees across the region have come to expect a dynamic agenda with relevant,
up-to-the-minute topics and exciting speakers who will share their wealth of knowledge and experience, helping you
to gain practical insights into your business challenges. The conference includes powerful keynotes, informative
breakouts, discussions with subject-matter experts, and cutting-edge solution providers.
Our partner, The Society for Information Management (SIM), is an organization intended for Senior IT Executives to
discuss and share experiences related to technology and business structure. The group’s mission is to provide an
open forum, devoid of sales and marketing solicitations, for area executives with IT decision-making responsibility to
network and share their experiences. The Premier CIO Forum adheres to all guidelines which prohibit solicitation by
anyone, except for the requested solution providers who have been hand-picked by the Executive Advisory Council of
CIOs and Senior IT Executives specific to this region.
We have worked diligently to put together a stimulating and focused agenda, bringing together experts, visionaries
and professionals from the IT industry. We look forward to sharing this exciting conference with you.
THE CHARLOTTE CHAPTER OF SIM IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH THIS EXCLUSIVE EXECUTIVE IT CONFERENCE.

P4 formula: people + personality + process + purpose = success. Getting these elements in
place is the biggest challenge leaders face, and Jack will guide you through the processes of
Jack
Stark, PhD both building and maintaining a winning team.

Discussion: The Cloud has matured into a strategic resource enabling enterprises to enter
new markets, outpace their competitors, and reduce costs. The drivers executives must
consider when moving to the Cloud include business objectives, existing infrastructure
investments, and application capability, life cycle, and client audience (internal, field based,
consumer facing, etc.). The decision to leverage the cloud must drive cost efficiencies and
create business agility and flexibility.
So how does an enterprise work through the many alternatives and variables in order to
make a sound business decision that leverages the resources available in the cloud?
Attend this panel discussion as executives discuss their approach and how they’ve
factored-in specific business objectives, constraints, and solution needs into their cloud
transformation decision making.

“BUSINESS REENGINEERING, INNOVATION AND IT ALIGNMENT CIO IN THE MIDDLE EAST
WHAT IS IT REALLY LIKE?”
Presented by: Rusty Bruns, CIO, American University of Kuwait
Discussion: This presentation will focus on re-engineering that increases productivity and
aligns IT with business goals, even if the business does not know what they want/need.
When previous IT Heads produce very little, the business expectations are kept very low.
By showing the business leaders what IT can accomplish, the connection between IT and
business actually occurs and the whole institution benefits.

Discussion: While the business of doing business has always been a driving force behind
IT services and strategy, many new and sometimes disruptive technologies, such as hybrid
cloud computing or the abstraction of end user computing, force the business to take
stock in how they should adopt, manage and support them. Sometime it se178ems to be a
question of “Who is transforming whom?”
In this session, we will present some of the current market trends and case studies from
an expert panel on projects that have been transformative to their organizations. We will
review how companies need to adapt to best support the new technical paradigms and also
discuss how IT can establish a regular communications cadence with the business -- one
that reinforces the relationship building, changes the conversation, and enables IT to provide
services that meet the demands, drive value, and accelerate revenue.

Discussion: Not too many years ago, IT was seen as innovative and helping to drive the
business. Now, many organizations view IT as the “Department of NO” with processes and
requirements that inhibit productivity and business agility. Business users want to take
advantage of mobility, cloud, social networks and other technologies they use in their day
to day lives outside of work and struggle to understand why things operate so differently
in the office. Join us for a discussion around how you can leverage Identity and Access
Management solutions to take advantage of mobile, cloud and social to strike the right
balance between user convenience and acceptable business risk.

Discussion: The maturation of social, mobile, and big data presents logistical challenges for IT and
opportunities for end users to gain more control over their data and applications. End users now
have more flexibility to determine their data sources, storage options, computing platforms, and
application providers. This presentation will provide tactics to enable IT to run ahead of this wave
of technological change, thereby allowing IT to remain the preferred provider and/or broker of
technological solutions and strategies in the enterprise. We will explore real world examples of these
strategies and will elicit feedback from attendees so that we can share and learn from one another.

Discussion: Why is STEM Education so important? STEM Education is the key to America’s
economic future and survival! Technology surrounds everything we do, yet many jobs today
are left unfilled in fields such as science technology, engineering and mathematics because
of the lack of skilled talent.
What can we do? Well for starters we need to build more dynamic pipelines that include
people of all cultures and ethnicities. More and more schools are teaching STEM-related
courses and students are being moved toward courses such as math and science, but it
is still not enough, there’s a gap, some groups aren’t there. REALITY CHECK - we’re falling
behind other countries when it comes to mathematics and science related careers and we
need all hands on deck to steer many of our youth into STEM related disciplines.
This interactive panel discussion will highlight STEM programs at two local universities Johnson C. Smith University and UNC Charlotte. Both schools are supporting college-level
programs, working with local industries for mentor and internships as well as providing
outreach programs to local middle and high schools to support STEM interest amongst
younger students. Come explore opportunities for how you and your organization can become
involved.
STEM education can provide smarter and productive workers for our future and this is what
we need to move forward and beyond.

To truly simplify IT in today’s virtualized data centers, the “data problem” must
be addressed: ensuring performance, capacity, mobility, manageability, and
protection of data without driving up CAPEX and OPEX. This requires new data
architecture—one that takes a VM-centric approach, ensures adequate IOPS to
fuel application requirements, and drives dramatic efficiency. SimpliVity’s Data
Virtualization Platform delivered in commodity x86 building blocks simplifies IT
infrastructure and operations, and uniquely enables data mobility and efficiency. SimpliVity reduces IOPS, capacity and
bandwidth requirements, and provides native data protection, eliminating the need for separate hardware and tools—
resulting in a 300% TCO savings. Visit www.simplivity.com or [email protected].
