WHAT IT IS:
A Lockstrap (sold individually) is an 8.5-foot tie-down that
features combination locking carabiners on each end and a
braided stainless steel cable that runs inside the entire nylon
strap.
HITS:
• Combination lock on carabiner can be easily customized
(hint: using the number on your bike is probably not a good
idea).
• The site of the Lockstrap alone is a theft deterrent for
grab-and-go thieves.
• Lockstrap may be used for much more than just motorcycles. We’ve used ours for bicycles, snowboards, a ladder,
and even our new Yamaha generator.
• Locking carabiner on the bottom of the strap ensures that
the Lockstrap will not be “borrowed” by your buddies who
also “borrow” gas.
MISSES:
• Soft strap is a bit long for motocross applications.
• Because of the steel braided cable inside the nylon strap,
the Lockstrap does not operate as smoothly as a traditional
tie-down.
THE VERDICT:
The Lockstrap is not a guarantee that your bike will never be
poached: if a well-equipped thief is determined to steal your
bike, he will steal your bike. The Lockstraps do, however,
discourage the casual criminal and are a great investment
for anyone who hauls valuables in the back of their truck.
