EHPAD PFAFFENHOFFEN, FRANCE
A NURSING HOME WITH LATEST CONCEPTS AND TECHNOLOGIES
The nursing home “Val du Moder” in Pfaffenhoffen has 70 apartments and is located nearby Strassbourg in
France. It was built in 2012. The management aimed at new concepts and technologies to improve the care of
the elderly people. Special attention was given to patients suffering from Alzheimer. They are not kept from
wandering, but can move safely within their part of the building.
The EHPAD is located in the small village Pfaffenhoffen
with its typical french atmosphere.
The senior residence Val du Moder provides new
technologies for better care.
SENSFLOOR® FALL DETECTION FOR BETTER CARE
SensFloor® is installed in 70 rooms and bathrooms for fall detection. As soon as a fall is detected in a room or
bathroom, an alarm is triggered and the nurse is able to react immediately, avoiding that the person is lying
helplessly on the floor for a longer time.
SensFloor® is installed in all rooms and bathrooms of
the EHPAD for fall detection. In case of emergency the
nurse is called immediately.
Different flooring and various colour schemes in the
rooms help Alzheimer patient to recognise their own
apartment.

“BREAKING THE SURFACE”, LUNDIN
AN INTERACTIVE, CONCEPTUAL INSTALLATION IN NORWAY
This installation was co-created by the Scandinavian Design Group and Lundin, Norway. It was presented for
the first time at the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) Tradeshow 2014 in Stavanger.
529 acrylic pipes are simulating the sea surface from above. They are mounted between two floor levels. Each
of the pipes are steered by individual servo motors, interlinked in a system. Through their presence, they will be
able to influence and partly control the responsive movements of the installation.
The advanced sensory system is able to track the
visitor’s patterns of movement. The project team has
worked closely with the Robotics engineer Abida.
The large-area sensor floor was integrated with four
depth cameras constructing a real-time model of the
environment on which the motion scheme is based.
SENSFLOOR® DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF PEOPLE
"The success factor in a project like this lies within the ability to link different competence areas at an early
stage, in order to maintain a holistic, yet detailed perspective throughout the entire project”, says Frida
Larsson, Client Director and Project Manager for the project in Scandinavian Design Group.

3MONKEYS KID’S GAME, ABU DHABI
EXERCISE FOR BODY AND MIND AT THE ABU DHABI SCIENCE FESTIVAL
Rudi Buchner, Chief technical Officer at 3Monkeys explains, "We were looking for some fresh way to control a
kid’s game. One that would be fun and interactive, but intuitive for the kids. After a bit of surfing, I stumbled
upon the guys at Future-Shape who had a very interesting product in SensFloor®. After a few conversations
about interfaces, we knew that this was the way forward - a kids game using the floor as the game controller. It
being a wireless product was even better for us when it came to installing in standard exhibition flooring."

kids
SENSFLOOR® AND HOPATHON
With the relevant product procured it was only a matter of interfacing the communication protocols of the floor
sensors with the real time Ventuz graphics system, and the Hopathon was born. Rudi continues "Our end client
Action Impact was delighted with the end result and during the week of operation, the Hopathon performed
flawlessly. The exciting thing for me is that we have only scratched the surface at what functionality is available
with the SensFloor®, so watch this space, see what we do next!"

NETFLIX’ DAREDEVIL CAMPAIGN
BIBORG’S INTERACTIVE CAMPAIGN FOR NETFLIX DAREDEVIL IN PARIS, FRANCE
For the launch of the season 2 of the Daredevil series on Netflix, a campaign with a special animation took
place in March 2016 in the mall ‘’Les 4 Temps’’ of La Defense in Paris. Within the “Digital Dream”, under the
dome of the mall, an interactive animation has been developed in partnership with the companies BIBORG and
CLEAR CHANNEL using the largest indoor screen in Europe.
A 250 m2 LED display with a vertical screen of 16
meters high – displaying an immersing 360°
experience.
The SensFloor underlay under the 4 stairs of the
podium detects the presence of people, triggers light
effects and impressive animations on the screens.
SENSFLOOR® DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF PEOPLE
This project has been a real success; we received only good feedbacks from the customers. Mr. Emilien Chiche,
Biborg’s Senior Creative Technologist believes that ‘’they only used 10% of the potential of the SensFloor®
technology right now’’.

NEW: SENSFLOOR®- GAIT ANALYSIS
LONG-TERM ANALYSIS OF SENSFLOOR DATA FOR META SENSORS
Long-term data analysis of a person’s behavior and gait is a valuable indicator of a changing health status.
Within the BMBF funded project “Cognitive Village” an apartment was equipped with large-area SensFloor®
and will be used as a data source for developing algorithms for this new kind of META sensors out of the
standard data given by the SensFloor®.
Using a “catwalk” of high-resolution SensFloor® here at Future-Shape’s premises the gait patterns of
healthy persons were collected.
At our UNCAP pilot partner the senior residence
“Wohnen am Schlossanger” in Höhenkirchen, the gait
patterns of persons with high risk of falling were
taken.
SENSFLOOR® LEARNING ALGORITHMS FOR GAIT ANALYSIS
In the sensor plots from healthy and frail persons, one can see distinctive differences in the walking patterns.
These serve as input to a learning system, which calculates the coefficients describing the gait. It is based on a
neural network structure.
Above the sensor plots from a healthy person with the mean geometrical spread of the sensor responses,
below the sensor plots from a frail person with clearly different geometrical pattern.

BODY SCANNER, HAMBURG AIRPORT
HIGH TECH AT THE SECURITY CHECK
Modern body scanners increase the security level for airline passengers at Hamburg airport. Based on
unproblematic terahertz radiation a full body scan is performed in a fraction of a second. Any sort of foreign
material attached to the body can be localized immediately decreasing the number of required unspecific
manual re-checks.

SENSFLOOR® OPTIMIZES PASSENGER FLOW AND COMFORT
Initially, the initiation of the procedure to enter the scanner, to stand still and to leave the scanner required a
time-consuming interaction between the security personnel and the passenger. To optimize the passenger
flow, a self-explanatory indication system based on SensFloor® was implemented which visualizes the
scanner’s occupancy status and the required next step to the passengers.

The project is co-financed by the EU through the Horizon 2020 programme, and it involves 23 partners from 9
European countries (IT, UK, SI, RO, EL, DE, SE, ES, MK).
The senior residence “Wohnen am Schlossanger”,
Höhenkirchen with 72 apartments for the elderly is
managed by the local community.
The seniors live in a comfortable and pleasing home,
which provides social events and offers sportive
activities for improving the health status.
SENSFLOOR® HELPS THE NURSES TO BE AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME
SensFloor® is installed in 10 rooms and bathrooms for fall prevention and fall detection. Another 11 rooms are
equipped with SensFloor® mats in front of the bed of seniors with a high risk of falling. The nurse is called for
support by phone as soon as someone steps on the mat.
SensFloor® mats call for support via the nurse call
system as soon as someone steps on it.
SensFloor® triggers a fall alarm, when someone is lying
on the floor. LEDs indicate the situation in the room.

LONG-TERM ACTIVITY MONITORING
SENSFLOOR IN HEALTH CARE: SUPPORT FOR MUCH MORE THAN FALL DETECTION!
The long-term activity monitoring provides valuable information about the health status and the well-being of
patients. It enables the doctor to see how well the patient is sleeping during the night and how active he is
during the day. Changes in the activity level can be a first sign of changes in the health status
The long-term activity monitoring from 0 am to 1:30 pm of a mentally fit resident, visiting the toilet nearly
every hour all through the night (above) and movement trajectories in the chosen 3 time slots.
A BUNCH OF INFORMATION AT ONE GLANCE
Get a lot more information about the activity of a patient at one glance based on his activity profile and identify
possible changes in his health status, in the chosen time slots you can even watch the activation in real time.
