The Harvester, a food
waste processor designed by
Redmond-based
WISErg,
was installed on March 1623 on the west side of Pike
Place between Pike and Pine
Streets, and will process food
scraps from 19 food vendors,
including: Chinese Cuisine,
Choice Produce, City Fish Co.,
DeLaurenti Specialty Food
and Wine, Don & Joe’s Meats,
Emmett Watson’s Oyster Bar,
Frank’s Quality Produce, Juice
The solution is stabilized in
a fully enclosed, odor free
tank. After being processed
in the Harvester, the materials are transferred to a nearby
WISErg facility, where they
are converted into WISErganic Liquid Fertilizer.
The installment of the Harvester was made possible
through a partnership with
Seattle Public Utilities, which
will utilize data collected in
quarterly reports on the sources and environmental profile
of food scraps. The closed tank
will divert organics from the
Market’s waste stream, reducing food waste tonnage and
CO2-equivalent
emissions
and provide savings on landfill
and transportation costs.

Milestone:
Top Level Complete
How it Works: The Harvester processes food scraps
into a nutrient rich solution.
All four floors on the north
end of the MarketFront’s
underground parking garage
have now been installed.
This means that MarketFront
construction is now ABOVE
the Alaskan Way Viaduct,
and observers on the Viaduct
and on Western Avenue will
start to see the commercial
business level of the new
MarketFront take shape.

What Will Wednesday Evening Market Look Like?
This summer, Pike Place
Market debuts a new Wednesday evening farmers market
to provide downtown families, residents and workers the
opportunity to support local
farmers and source fresh, local produce while enjoying the
long summer evenings after
work on Pike Place. The Evening Market launches June

Old Stove Brewery is due to open mid to late
April. Owner Chris Moore and his team are hard
at work creating unique beers in their brew room
located next to the Pike Place Chowder prep space
just off the Post Alley courtyard. Visitors will be
able to see their brewing equipment and watch the
brewing process in this space. Craft beer and food
will be available for purchase upstairs in the new
First Avenue taproom. The taproom is reflective
of Chris’s roots; he used timbers from Vicksburg,
MI for his tables, and a large mural features personal history
and Market personalities, as well as some “I spy” items hidden
throughout the artwork. Brewing beer is a passion for Chris and
his team, and you will definitely want to say “cheers” in April.
Arcade Lights at
Pike Place Market
is a celebration of
artisan food and
drink in Seattle’s
most unique party
venue. Local vendors
will
be
serving
handmade savories,
sweets, beer, wine,
cider, and more. All
proceeds benefit the
Pike Place Market
Foundation, helping
the Market you love
remain a thriving,
caring community.

Chef Drew Marquis of the iconic DeLaurenti Specialty Food
& Wine will be serving handmade
Taleggio Arancini with Chili Aoli to
Arcade Lights guests. Translation:
mouth-watering cheesy risotto
bites, deep-fried to perfection and
accompanied with sweet and spicy
chili sauce.
Though Number 6 Cider just
opened their cidery & taproom in
Seattle last year, they’ve already
become a local favorite. We
suggest enjoying DeLaurenti’s
risotto with “Dry 99”, Number 6’s
popular dry cider.

Shug’s Soda Fountain & Ice Cream located
off First Avenue in the First and Pine building will be opening mid to late April as well.
Owneres Colleen Wilkie and Paul Dormann are
taking their experience in the restaurant industry to realize this lifelong dream. Shug’s will
feature an original 1940s-era soda fountain and
will serve traditional ice cream treats as well as
a cafe food menu, wine and beer. The menu will appeal to kids
and mom and dad alike. Shug’s new space also includes a party
