VOL. 15 NO. 8
Cana’s Annual Fall
Faith in Action
Outreach to our Community
From My Heart to yours,
What an incredible journey is
ahead for all of us at Cana
Baptist Church! We begin our
journey together on August 9th
and it is my privilege to be
serving with you as interim
pastor. Carol Ann and I are really looking forward to
this time of transition. This church has such a
remarkable past! The leadership of Charles Stewart
is a wonderful foundation upon which to continue to
build. Your love for your pastor and your support for
his leadership is a key to moving forward. The best is
yet to be! This time of transition to a new pastor is a
great opportunity for all of us. This is not a time to sit
back and coast. It is a time to aggressively move
forward. There are lives to be touched, souls to be
saved, ministry to be done and mission to be accomplished. God does not take time off and neither
should we.
The assignment given to this church has not
changed. We are to faithfully preach, teach, serve
and share with all our hearts in a world that is
desperate for hope and meaning. We have the
message of the Good News of the Gospel and we
have the spirit and unity to share that message with
all in this community and around the world. We are
part of the greatest ministry/mission coop in the world
as Southern Baptists. We could never fulfill the
commission our Lord has given to us by ourselves.
But together with other likeminded churches we can.
What a significant door is open to Cana Baptist in
these days!
Thank you for allowing us the great privilege and
blessing of being with you during this time. Let me
encourage you to invite and bring your friends and
neighbors to church with you. Let us aggressively
reach out to all around us to encourage them to be
part of Cana Baptist. This time of interim can be a
time to tread water, or it can be a time to grow and do
more than ever before. Let’s make it a time for
growth and ministry and mission together to the ends
of the earth! Looking forward to this time with you.
Pray for us and know that we love and appreciate
you and are so grateful for the opportunity to share
these months with all of you!

The Pastor Search Committee has received over 40
resumes. We will continue to receive resumes, but
are waiting to seriously review them until the end of
September. All resumes that have been received to
date have been notified by letter that we will begin
the review process at the end of September.
We are arranging a meeting with Scott Whitson, our
Director of Missions for the Southwest Metroplex
Baptist Association, to come and talk to us and give
us insight on the pastor search process.
In His love,
Please continue to pray for us as we actively seek
God’s leadership during this time.

Embracing the Moronene
As you read this newsletter we are preparing for
our next trip to Indonesia. The team will consist
of myself, Mike Keller, Erika Mercer, Tommy
and Carol Ann Kiker. We will spend some time
teaching some of the Christian Mononene,
following up on the contacts that Collin and
Tyler made this summer and sharing the Gospel
with the lost. We leave August 3 and return
August 15. Please commit to pray for the group
as we travel and engage in ministry.
Young @ Heart
August 6 at 6:30 p.m., will be the next Young at
Heart Bible study and fellowship. Andy Arnold
will be bringing the message. Bring a side or
dessert to share and join us for a great time of
food, fellowship and God’s word.

MUSIC CAMP 2015
Music Camp is quickly approaching! As of today, we
have 73 campers! We are looking forward to another
exciting week. We have lots of helpers (as usual),
youth and adults. We could not pull off such an
amazing week without lots of help. Thank you to all of
you who are helping this year or have helped in the
past. We recognize that Music Camp would not be
what it is without faithful workers!
The week will begin on Monday, August 3, and will
conclude on Sunday evening, August 9, at 6 PM with
the presentation of the musical “In the Big Inning.” This
is a great musical with a baseball theme (as I’m sure
you’ve already figured out) and it speaks of many Bible
characters who demonstrated a lot of faith. It will be a
great week and the kids will be exposed to some great
Bible teaching, a fun music rotation, recreation, and
snacks in addition to learning a great musical and (of
course) getting to hang out with the Minister of
Worship!
Pray for all of those who are helping this year! Please
pray especially for Missy as she gives direction to the
camp and all of the zillion details! Pray for those
campers who are coming who need to invite Jesus to
be Savior and Lord. We have several unchurched kids
coming this week.
Watch for the Fall Brochure of new L.I.F.E.
classes!
Please plan to be here on Sunday, August 9, at 6 PM
for the presentation of “In the Big Inning.” You will
enjoy the musical even if you do not have a child or
grandchild participating.

Hello Church Family,
The Summer is winding down and we are
focusing our ministry before the school year begins.
The summer is a great time for students to
grow and mature spiritually. This means we have to
prepare your students for the school year and all the
temptations, busyness, and other relationships they
will begin again. We have spent this summer teaching
our students how to live counter to the culture they are
living in. Please join me in praying for our students as
the busy school year begins with all the school
activities they will participate in. Pray for them to
have the boldness to speak up and the courage to share
the gospel with the lost in their schools.
Promotion Sunday is August 23. We are
excited to have a new class of sixth graders joining us
in the youth ministry. Each year to kick of the school
year, we have a Back-To-School Luau. This is a fun
Sunday evening party for all the students from 5:308:00pm. If you have any children, or grandchildren
that are 6th to 12th grade we would love of them to
join us.
I know school is right around the corner but we are
going to squeeze as much summer as we can into the
month of August.

Beginning Sunday, August 23rd
5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Our Cana Awana Clubs is open to children who are 3 years old by September 1st through 5th grade. Awana is a Biblecentered children’s ministry that seeks to reach children with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.
It is a real blessing to work with our children in this program. Our Awana schedule is set up so that you can come
listen to our clubbers say their verses or help as a line leader with the games AND still attend Sunday evening service. This year we are also looking for a new Sparks Director to work with our K-2nd Grade Club.
Awana uses uniforms and handbooks in the program and we ask parents to purchase these and also contribute a
“dues” amount twice a year. The handbooks are $10. Cubbie and Sparkie Vests (3 years thru 2nd Grade) are $11.
The uniforms for T & T (3rd-5th Grade) are $16. September dues are $15 for the first child and $7.50 for each
additional child from the same family.
Scholarships are available to help cover these costs.
Our August Awana themes are:

LIVING IN THE PRESENT
First, it was studying hard in high school in order
to get into a good college. Then it was doing my best
in college to get a good job. Next came performing
well at my job so that I might someday be promoted.
And all was done in the hopes of one future day
making a larger salary. As with so many others, my
life was lived for tomorrow. I never found contentment in today due to a constant striving for the
future. Little did I heed the words of the Teacher:
“Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your
wine with a joyful heart for it is NOW that God
favors what you do.” (Ecc. 9:7).
For true health and vitality in our relationship with
Yahweh, it is required that we appreciate our God in
the moment. The time to proclaim the mighty works
of our Heavenly Father is now. The time to bring our
burdens to Him is now. The time to minister to Him
is now. Yesterday cannot be recovered to be re-done.
And tomorrow may never come. The only thing we
are promised by our God is this moment. Seek and
find Him in the present. Revel in Him right now.
Submit yourself to His authority immediately. For
Yahweh strongly desires to relate to you not in the
past nor in the future but rather in this present
moment.
“The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their
might; They shall put their hand over their mouth;
Their ears shall be deaf.” (Micah 7:16 NKJV)
In this verse, the prophet Micah had a vision of the
future when all the previously powerful nations shall
witness the power and glory of the Kingdom that the
Lord Jesus Christ shall establish. Putting their hands
over their mouths and having deaf ears means they
will be quiet and no longer hear their boasting in
comparison with the might of the Lord. In today’s
world, we see and hear people of many nations act
and speak in defiance to God. When the Lord comes
again in all His power, they will be silent and put to
shame.
We as Christians face many challenges to our faith in
our nation and around the world. Praise the Lord that
He is still in control and His people will prevail! May
the Lord grant us courage to stand firm in our faith.
In His Service,
Brother Jack

VISION
“FORCOLUMBUS”
COLLEGIATE CROSSOVER SEES STUDENTS
LIVING GOSPEL
By Meredith Yackel (NAMB)
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the millennial generation don’t
always have the best reputation, and they know it. When Jon
Shah, pastor of H2O Church on The Ohio State University’s
campus, asked a group of over 400 collegiate students participating in ForColumbus how they thought people perceived them,
they answered with terms like lazy, impatient, entitled and
emotional.
“I don’t actually believe that,” said Shah. “I believe they are made
for a grand purpose, and nobody has invited them to it. They
have no idea what it is, and when the gospel gets a hold of
someone’s life, and they believe it, they get touched with the
purpose they were made for.”
ForColumbus, a new collegiate 10-day extension of Crossover,
saw over 500 collegiate participants serving June 7-17 around
the city. Students from across the southeast, Arizona, Ohio and
Quebec, Canada, are participating in key initiatives throughout
Columbus. Student activities included city beautification
initiatives, people-group mapping prayer-walking, gospel sharing
at Ohio State and creating gardens in abandoned lots to provide
healthy food options in under resourced areas. While working on
their projects each day, students and their leaders were challenged to have at least three gospel conversations with residents.
“The idea of ForColumbus came from building upon what Crossover has been the past several years,” said Kevin Stacy, a collegiate project specialist with the North American Mission Board
(NAMB) and strategic organizer of ForColumbus.
Rebecca Fountain, shared that this was her first-ever mission
trip. “I was a little nervous about the trip, but I have been praying
that God would work through me and I wanted to see His work in
action,” Fountain said.
“I got to see God work through little Ali,” she said of an 11-yearold boy who had been coming to the backyard Bible club they
hosted. “The first day we taught on creation and the second day,
when we taught about the fall, he accepted Christ. He had never
even heard of Jesus before. After we took some time to speak
with him about his decision, he threw his hands in the air and
yelled ‘Jesus!’
“Before ForColumbus I was not intentional about sharing the
gospel,” said Fountain. “I can say I feel really comfortable doing
that now.”
“The ForColumbus project emerged from the Baptist Collegiate
Ministry Network (BCNet) church planting team,” said Brian Frye,
National Collegiate Strategist for NAMB. “Ultimately, the goal of
ForColumbus is to see students become life-long, fruit-bearing
disciple makers--to become students who make disciples who
make disciples in order to plant churches that plant churches.
“Our ask of every students is to leverage their lives for the gospel
and to give their first two years after college to serve alongside a
planter/pastor to start churches,” said Frye.
PAGE 9
Stacy shares Fountain’s enthusiasm. The students were introduced to the 3 Circles: Life Conversation Guide, along with other
training during the week. Stacy is also encouraged by the focus
he has seen on church planting in Columbus.
“When you look at what has happened in Columbus from 11
years ago, having only 54 churches to119 now because of how
many churches that have been planted. If you look at the number
of people who are accepting and following Christ, it has been
exciting to realize that tremendous impact happens when churches work together, but even more because we serve a big God,”
said Stacy. Along with God’s Spirit and church cooperation, Stacy also credits prayer for the renewal.
“We have been praying that students who come in will see how
God is already working in Columbus and then join Him in that,”
said Stacy. “We have specifically been praying for 10 percent of
the students who participate in ForColumbus to come back and
plant their lives and help plant churches here.”
“Great is our Lord,
and abundant in power;
His understanding is
beyond measure.”
