Winter 2016 - Santa Teresa Women`s Golf Club
Santa Teresa Women’s Golf Club
CAPTAIN’S CORNER
Happy New Year! Indeed…it’s almost February so
maybe Happy Year of the Monkey in Chinese
parlance. We’ve been so fortunate to start the year
off without missing a beat, meaning it rained all
round us, but didn’t stop us from playing every
Thursday so far in 2016. Yes, our first outing was
rather small—just enough to host our Captain’s
Trophy and putt day. Congratulations to Fudge
Masuda who survived a three-way tie-break to be
our January Captain’s Trophy winner.
This is a year of change. We have new scorecards
reflecting, finally, a newly rated golf course. Our
holes have been re-rated as well and if you’ll
notice, our 10th hole is now the No.1 most difficult.
We’re playing almost as many blue-white combo
tees as white-white so there must be joy and
happiness within our ranks with new challenges
and diversity.
One of our three new tournament pairings chairs,
Vicky Smith, has jumped right in and is doing a
fantastic job and I have personally enjoyed reading
her pep talks during the week of play. She seems
well suited for the task and I am personally
appreciative.
Hats off also to our tournament chairs who have
not had any rest in tournament play and they’ve
really jump-started our year and gotten our results
information to all of us in a timely manner.

Presenting the Christmas gift to Santa Teresa
staff of Robie, Drew and Brian.
So far in this first month, I’ve even seen our team
play Captain, Rosemary Haeckel, outfitting our club
with new team play shirts and aren’t we going to
look very sharp come March. Yes, we’ve had a
wonderful beginning.
Finally, I’d just like to welcome back our
membership to another year of golf, camaraderie
and fun. And offer a huge “HELLO” and a “Happy
you’ve joined our club” to our newest members.
Mary Forster has been busy, busy, busy, as she’s
been the face of our club to seven new members
already. We’re growing. When you have a chance
please introduce yourself and extend a warm hand
to our newest members.

TEAM PLAY
Welcome to Santa Teresa Team Play all you
members of our club. The season lasts just two
months, April through May, with ten play dates.
We would like to include anyone who enjoys a bit
of competition and the chance to meet new friends
from other clubs. We play, two of us against two
from another club, so you are not alone, less
pressure to perform. LK Wong, Gina Gordon and
Rosemary Haeckel are our co-captains and will be
around for any questions. We have ordered a new
team shirt this year so you are getting involved at
our start. But please contact us and sign up so we
can get our teams scheduled early. We want YOU!
We are also starting a practice session; chipping,
pitching and putting, possibly lessons on Mondays
at Santa Teresa. And definitely lunch after if you
have the time. We also want to plan play at courses
that are new to some of you, like Los Lagos (whose
yardage has been lengthened) or Callippe that
some of you may not have played.
We think you will really enjoy getting to know
other members of our club in a relaxed
atmosphere. Call us to play or just come out and
enjoy the fun.
Refer to the following page for the schedule.

Club Championship Tournament
September 8th & September 15th
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
This year, the annual STWGC Championship
Tournament will be held Thursday, September 8th
and 15th , 2016.
Ever since 1969, STWGC has sponsored our
championship tournament for the regular members.
It is 36 holes of stroke play over two days. This
"Flight event" will acknowledge a Low Gross and
Low Net Champion as well as winners. (Each flight
will have five winners; consisting of three gross
and two net.)
All STWGC regular members who have played six
games between Jan. 1st and Aug. 31st are eligible
for this event. Sign-ups will start in August!
Participants who played in past years know how
exciting and fun these tournaments were. There
were lots of handsome cash prizes paid out.
Hopefully you comeback for this year’s
tournament, and tell your friends to come with
you.

TOURNAMENT
As expected, it’s been raining off and on in
January, but so far we have been able to golf
on Thursdays! Compared to last year with no
rainouts due to the drought, we are
anticipating more rainouts this year.
Surprisingly, despite the wet conditions and
unusually cold/windy weather we’re
experiencing, no tournaments were cancelled
in January! (FYI, twenty players are required
to have a tournament.) Due to the damp
course conditions, the Blue/White Combo
Tees are proving to be more challenging for
most players as reflected in the net scores.
We’ll have to rethink playing combo tees
during drier weather next year.
Please give a “helping hand” to all our new
members on how “things” are done. Introduce
yourself and make them feel welcome. Show
them the Tournament Binder located at the
Starter Check-In table especially the section
on Games played and how a scorecard is filled
out.
A reminder to all members to make the time to
annually review our Club’s bylaws, local and
standing rules, minutes, etc. all located on our
Club’s website: www.stwgc.com/minutesnews.htm.
So please, mark down on your calendar to save
those two days, September 8th and 15th to
celebrate our very own 'major' tournament.
We'd like to try anything to get more participants then previous
years !!!!
