The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2014 (7/1/13 - 6/30/14) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal Year 2013. The portion
of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,727.640.00 or $32,597.00 per week. Thank you for your
continuing generosity. Contributions for the 20th weekend of the fiscal year were $33,824.00. In the 20th week of our fiscal year, our
budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $651,939.00 and our collections are $659,555.00.
Collections for Catholic Relief Services were $12,647.00. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider using the Capital
Improvement Envelope in your packet to help recover the renovation of St. Bakhita Hall.
May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.

FROM THE PASTOR NOV. 24, 2013
FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
The Roman Catholic Church is concluding the Holy Year of Faith on this Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King of the Universe. We have been blessed by this
holy year inaugurated by Pope Benedict and concluded by Pope Francis with an
increase of faith, hope and love manifested in many different ways. We were
most recently inspired by the Parish History Fair with a large gathering of some
founding families and many of the Canossian Sisters from throughout their province along with our more recent arrivals to the parish over a period of fifty plus years. I have heard so many compliments about the celebration and once again I thank all those involved in making our History Fair such a success. Today let us sum
up all of our life of faith in Jesus Christ the King of the Universe and the Lord of our hearts. Let us move forward from this holy year with greater commitment and zeal to live out our faith as true servants of the Lord.
Our faith can and must make a difference in this world so that Jesus Christ might be known and loved more
and more.
PRAYER TO CHRIST THE KING
Christ Jesus, I acknowledge You King of the Universe. All that has been created has been made for You.
Make full use of your rights over me. I renew the promises I made in Baptism, when I renounced Satan and all
his pomps and works, and I promise to live a good Christian life and to do all in my power to procure the triumph of the rights of God and your Church. Divine Heart of Jesus, I offer You my efforts in order to obtain
that all hearts may acknowledge your Sacred Royalty, and that thus the Kingdom of Your peace may be established throughout the universe. Amen.
MINISTRY COMMISSIONING
To honor this Feast of Christ the King, we commission and re-commission all of those serving in the various
ministries of the parish. May you be blessed as you accept the mission to be a blessing to others here at Annunciation Parish and beyond. Thank you for your service of the King.
THANKSGIVING DAY
There will be one parish Thanksgiving Day Mass at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28th.
As I celebrate Thanksgiving with family in Louisiana, be assured that I shall offer
thanks at the altar for all of you. The Mass is the greatest act of thanksgiving and an
appropriate place to remember one another and our loved ones who have gone before
us in this month of the Holy Souls. Thank you for all your prayers at my birthday and
always. God bless you and happy Thanksgiving!
THE MAYOR’S INAUGURATION
Mayor Richard Berry, our parishioner, is scheduled to be inaugurated for his second term as mayor on Sunday,
December 1st at 3:00 p.m. in the Convention Center, to which the public is invited. Just prior to this,
Archbishop Sheehan will come to celebrate the Noon Mass that day here at Annunciation to begin the Advent
Season with us and to bless Mayor Berry and his family. All are welcome to join in praying for our mayor
next Sunday as we celebrate the beginning of the new liturgical year and Mayor Berry’s second term in office.

Life and Dignity Fall 2013 Forum . All who were able to attend this very timely gathering here
at Annunciation Parish on Wednesday were quite impressed with the content of the presentations given by Msgr. Voorhies, Beth Lukes, and Cheryl and Marc Hallada on “Defending Catholic Marriage in the Public Square.” Hopefully everyone came away with much enlightenment
on the subject.
►
GEMS’ Thanksgiving Luncheon . There was a wonderful turnout for the GEMS’ potluck luncheon last
Thursday in St. Magdalene Hall. Everyone enjoyed the food favorites brought in by the members, as well as pleasant conversation and camaraderie. We were delighted to have the members of the parish office staff share this special feast with us.

Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving We are mindful that we are called to share, to give
to others so that we may help establish here on earth God’s kingdom of peace and
justice. We thank all of our parishioners and parents in the school who donated to
“Adopt A Family” for the Social Concerns Thanksgiving Project. A special mention to
the different Parish Ministries: Social Concerns, St. Vincent de Paul, Boy Scouts, Youth
Confirmandi, Knights of Columbus and students who helped in boxing, loading trucks,
directing traffic, driving and delivering boxes to San Jose, Holy Ghost, St. Francis Xavier parishes, and
the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Many have also made cash donations that were used to buy gift certificates for distribution to the individuals who are most in need. God’s blessings to you!

The eighteen catechumens and candidates who have been accepted to the Order of the
Catechumenate are continuing their Journey of Faith to the Easter Sacraments, with their
sponsors/mentors, the catechists and the RCIA Team. We ask all parishioners to pray for
them, that they may remain committed to what they have started, by the grace of God. Thank you.

MINISTRY
TIME OUT! We welcome children to our liturgies. They learn from our example how to reverently and joyfully participate in these celebrations. However, every child needs “Time Out” at some time or other.
If your child is behaving in a way that is inappropriate for worship, please take them to the vestibule or out
by the fountain for a few minutes until they – and you – can return to the assembly and continue praying
and praising Our Lord Jesus Christ. You owe it to yourself, your child, the rest of the assembly–and to God–
to give full attention to the celebration of the Mass. Thank you!

UnPlugged Retreat for High School Youth: FINAL CALL!
Take a break fro m the noise and plug into Jesus with an afternoon of prayer, fello wship, food, and fun! Give one afternoon to Christ by
setting aside distractions and discover how He invites us to deepen our relationship with Him. Along with speakers, activities, and food, the
retreat will include Adoration and evening Mass. Don’t miss this opportunity THIS weekend!
The Feast of Christ the King (Sunday the 24th) marks the conclusion of the Year of Faith, which
Pope Benedict XVI declared to begin on October 11, 2012. The significance of the opening date
was two-fold: it marked the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, as well
as the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The year
passed has allowed us to discover more deeply the gift of our Faith—to find, perhaps for the first
time, the goodness of what we learn through Christ. Because the Feast of Christ the King celebrates
Jesus’ reign over all creation, we are reminded that our faith finds its end and meaning in Jesus!
With Advent approaching, we begin a new liturgical
year in the Roman Catholic calendar. The Office of
Youth and Young Adults is revising current ministries
and seeking new opportunities to reach our young
people. Keep an eye out in the weeks ahead for more
information!
TOB for Adults
The Theology of the Body for Adults class continues their own study with “The Resurrection of Our Body: Our Destiny”. Learn and discuss
how the Christian belief in the resurrection is a beautiful mystery not only for our life to co me, but also for the life we live now in relationship
with one another!
Young Adult Frassati Society
The Young Adult Frassati Society will gather on Monday, November 25th for an early Thanksgiving dinner. At the time o f writing the
bulletin, location and timing details are being settled—please contact Barry at the parish office (above) or on his cell phone (506-0705) for
more in formation.
