Winterm Troubleshooting Checklist
Winterms are fairly simple devices and most issues can be remedied quickly. Here are a few easy
items to check when they are having problems

Check the power connection (on both ends) They can come unplugged rather easily. Be sure
each end is securely connected
Do this when the unit will not power up
Cycle power – pull the power plug from the back of the unit, plug back in, wait 10 seconds, press
the power button to power back on.
Do this when the unit will not power up
Check that the monitor is powered on and that the VGA and power connections on the monitor
are seated properly
Check the network connection (both ends) Be sure plugs are pushed in tightly
Do this when it will not connect to the server for login.
Power button issues
Be sure the power button isn’t stuck in the ON position. Many of the winterms have been
vandalized and the power button gets the most abuse. It may take several tries to press it in.
When the Winterm powers up, there should be a beep.
Check the VGA connection (on both ends) The other end is connected to the back of the
monitor.
KB/mouse problems (mouse plugs into KB on some models)
The keyboard is connected to the Winterm via USB cable, and usually the mouse connects to the
right side of the keyboard. If the mouse has a USB connector, it will connect directly to the
Winterm.
If the Winterm seems to be frozen and you can’t type or move the mouse cursor, be sure that
keyboard/mouse are plugged in
Check switch/hub that all network cables are connected to is powered on. Try pulling the power
plug and reseating it, making sure there are lights on in the unit.
Printing problems
o If you’re having trouble printing or the correct printer is not listed, please restart the
Winterm. If that doesn’t fix it, then the tech office will usually have to check it out, as
the issue is likely on the server. Please fill out a ticket.
