Switchguard® D150 Derail MkII and
C150 Crowder MkII
Available as concrete bearer kits or individual components
D150 Derail
Use the D150 Derail to protect against runaway
vehicles eg from entering an operational line or
depot.
Operate the D150 using various devices eg a
hand lever, the main or auxiliary drive of a point
machine, or back drive.
C150 Crowder
Use the C150 Crowder (recommended) in
conjunction with the D150 Derail to reduce or
prevent re-railing—the crowder simultaneously
diverts the opposing wheel from the rail.

Concrete Bearer Kits
Available as individual items or full kits
including concrete bearers
Simplify ordering and installation, avoiding onsite cutting, drilling, or welding, using a
complete, bolt-together kit containing purposebuilt concrete bearers, derail, crowder (if
requested), and all fittings. We compile your kit,
including a general assembly drawing, to fit
your application and can include a hand lever or
drive if requested.
Machine or manual operation
MkII Enhancements
Optional position proving of the derail
The MkII enhancements to derails and crowders:
• more effectively handle vehicles travelling at
higher speeds or fitted with bogie wheels
• are readily retrofitted to MkI units by
replacing just single parts in the derail and in
the crowder
Benefits
Cost-effective protection against runaway
vehicles
One size fits all standard rails (adapter plates
may be required)
Insulated joints for track circuited areas
Fully-welded steel construction
Installed without modifying rail plates

Datasheet 2H-2 issue 14.0
Description
We recommend use of both derail and
crowder in the one installation. The
derail and crowder can each be installed
without modifying rail plates.

D150 Derail
The D150 Derail protects against
runaway vehicles eg from entering an
operational line or depot.
It can be operated by external devices
such as:
• a dedicated powered drive (eg
electro-pneumatic thruster)
• a hand lever
• the main or auxiliary drive of a point
machine (eg the Siemens
Switchguard Series 84M)
• back drive

Movement
Derailing to the left requires a left-hand
D150 Derail fitted to the left-hand rail, and
a left-hand C150 Crowder (see above).
SAFETY
WARNING
Left-hand
C150 Crowder
Derailing to the right requires a right-hand
D150 Derail fitted to the right-hand rail, and
a right-hand C150 Crowder (see front).
You must assess the suitability, ability to derail, and safety of
installations based on rail, wagon and wheel type, potential speeds,
and safety of derailed vehicles.
• discuss your requirements for new
installations
• ask about the kits to upgrade derails
and crowders from MkI to MkII.
