The station building’s highlight, and also a popular
spot for tourists, the “Big Stairway” will be illuminated
with beautiful images of Kyoto sceneries during the
night time.
Surprisingly, the Big Stairway has a total of 171 stairs
and about 15,000 LED lights used for this great
performance. Enjoy the powerful, yet subtle beauty
of this performance!

Kyoto’s Cloisonné at Saryo Gallery
Until May 12 (Thurs.)
Shippo, or a cloisonné, is an amazingly beautiful art
craft made by glassy glaze on the metal surface. It
widely prevailed during the end of Momoyama to early
Edo period (16-17th century) having the flourish of the
Rimpa Art School which preferred gorgeous decorative
art style at the time. As cloisonné have beautiful
colors and luster, it is considered as “shippo (seven
treasures: gold, silver, lapis lazuli, coral, agate and
giant clamshell),” which is as beautiful as stated in the
Buddhist scriptures.
