Build A Better Tomorrow
Dear Schuylkill County Employer,
Community….that is the word that best describes the
mission of the Schuylkill United Way. For the past 77 years
the Schuylkill United Way has supported the community by
raising money to help those less fortunate in Schuylkill
County. In fact, 115,000 residents benefited from at least
one of the partner agencies of the Schuylkill United Way
last year alone.
I am pleased that your company has taken an interest in the
Schuylkill United Way. This packet has been created for
your benefit. It shows how the Schuylkill United Way
impacts the community and makes Schuylkill County a
better place to work and live. It also shows how you, an
employer of Schuylkill County, can assist the Schuylkill
United Way in raising funds to continue to help the
residents who are served by these partner agencies.
I am looking forward to both of us working together to
advance the common good.
Together, we are united!

Robert was born with cerebral palsy and a bilateral foot
deformity. Because of two Schuylkill United Way
agencies...Avenues (Founded as UCP), and Schuylkill County
Society for Crippled Children, Robert was able to receive the
treatments and therapy he needed to become a productive citizen
of society.
When Robert was asked about the impact the Schuylkill
United Way has had on his life he said, “I don’t know where I’d
be without the Schuylkill United Way. I wouldn’t have gotten
the therapy I needed, or made the connections with the doctor. I
owe a lot to the United Way and its agencies.”
Patrick Higgins
Robert Heffner
Patrick is a client of Child Development, a
Schuylkill United Way Agency. Patrick’s mother noticed
that her son was suffering from a mood disorder which
caused him to have trouble socializing. At this time she
was working on completing her nursing education and
couldn’t afford specialized daycare. So a friend suggested
Child Development. Because of Child Development,
Patrick received the special attention that he needed in a
loving and caring atmosphere. When asked about the
impact of Schuylkill United Way, Patrick’s mother
responded, “Because of the Schuylkill United Way and
Child Development, I was able to finish school and I felt
secure and confident knowing that he was learning and
cared for. It enabled me to do my job at school without
worrying.”
