Karl Strauss Brewing Company was founded by two college roommates on a mission to revive the art of craft brewing in Southern
California. With the help of an uncle – renowned Master Brewer
Karl Strauss – they began drafting their business plans on the
beaches of San Diego in 1989. Shortly thereafter, Karl Strauss
Brewing Company was born. It was the first brewery to have
opened in San Diego in more than 50 years – paving the way and
providing inspiration for the many fine craft breweries that have
put San Diego on the map as a city known for its exciting and
innovative beer scene.
Karl Strauss Amber Lager
Karl Strauss Amber Lager is medium in body, moderate in alcohol, and has a rich copper color. We use
plenty of Munich and Caramel malts to give it a distinct toasted caramel flavor and just enough Cascade
hops to create a delicately spicy backdrop. This crisp,
smooth lager has lots of flavor while being incredibly
balanced. The first beer we brewed when we opened
in 1989, Karl Strauss Amber Lager remains our most
popular beer. And it was Karl’s favorite.
Karl Strauss Brewing Company artfully brews both lagers and ales.

Ale, Windansea Wheat Hefeweizen, Stargazer I.P.A., Woodie Gold
Pilsener, Downtown After Dark Brown Ale, Endless Summer
Light, and Karl Strauss Oktoberfest (seasonal). All are brewed with
the same commitment, expertise, and passion as when the company first opened back in 1989. Distributed only in Southern
