Third Annual Lobster Roll Eating Contest Schedules Qualifying Round
LIKE LOBSTER? How about taking on an all-you-can-eat lobster roll buffet? On Saturday, September
8th, 2012 at 2:00 pm, the Third Annual Lobster Roll Eating Contest will take place at the Hampton Beach
Seafood Festival. Twelve lucky contestants will be chosen to compete for this year’s title. $1,000 is on the
line, with the winner receiving $600, second place taking home $250, and third place leaving with $150. The
winner will receive bragging rights along with automatic entry into next year’s competition. The ten-minute
eating frenzy is sponsored by The 401 Tavern and the Pat Whitley Restaurant Show.
1st Place Winner for 2011 was Joe Menchetti from Cheshire, CT. Joe devoured 12 lobster rolls in 10 minutes! 2nd Place Winner
was Sao Young from Lowell, MA, consuming 11 lobster rolls. 3rd Place Winner was Craig Hooper
of Malden, MA, eating 7 lobster rolls. If you did not have the opportunity to witness last year’s
competition, you really have to come down and see for yourself what an incredible escapade this
is. The excitement, the cheering crowds, it was quite a show!
The sole qualifying round for 2012 will take place on Tuesday, August 7 at The 401 Tavern
at 6:00 pm. This initial round is a hot dog eating competition to work up your appetite for the
lobster rolls. The top eleven eaters from the qualifying round will receive the right to compete
in the Official Hampton Beach Seafood Festival Lobster Roll Eating Contest on September 8,
2012 at 2:00 pm.
Think you have what it takes? Then prove it. Qualifying round is open to those 18 years or older and applications will be
taken on-line at www.hamptonbeachseafoodfestival.com. Entry is very limited and submitting an application
does not guarantee entry into the event. If you are picked to be one of our contestants, you will receive a phone
call or e-mail. Good Luck!
The Hampton Beach Seafood Festival takes place each year the weekend after Labor Day. In 2012, the
dates are Friday, September 7 through Sunday, September 9. It is a spectacular Seaside Festival (Ocean
Boulevard closed to traffic) featuring: 60 of the Seacoast’s top restaurants serving an abundance of
mouthwatering seafood and non-seafood items like BBQ Ribs, “Blooming Onions” and sumptuous
desserts; 80 Arts & Crafts vendors promoting locally made products, and hundreds of Ocean
Boulevard merchants offering end-of-the-season Sidewalk Sales; Continuous Entertainment
on two stages featuring15 Bands and Orchestras playing a variety of music — Blues, Jazz, the
Oldies but Goodies, and even a little Rock & Roll; Kiddie Land — featuring the best in Children’s
Celebrities, Magicians, Jugglers, Clowns, Face Painting & Games; Spectacular fireworks display
— Saturday at 8:15 pm; A “Don’t Miss” thrilling Skydiving demonstration, Sunday at 5:00 pm;
Pat Whitley Culinary Chef Demonstrations Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am to 2:00 pm; a 200 foot
beverage tent serving beer and wine; and a beach bar in the sand, and
entertainment on the exciting, completely new Seashell Stage.

Ashworth Celebrates 100th Year!
The Ashworth Hotel held a
ribbon cutting and luncheon to
celebrate their 100th anniversary
recently. Local dignitaries joined
the owners, the staff, and management of the hotel to mark the
past, present, and future of
this landmark business on
Hampton Beach. Former
owners Joyce, Pat, and John
Grandmaison were in attendance, as well as local and
state elected officials.

Hampton Beach Children’s Festival kicks off with a magic show and builds up to a Giant Costume
Parade that marches almost the length of Hampton Beach on Friday, August 17th. Every child
gets a prize just for being in it! We’ve added tons of fun, so don’t miss this one!
Each day will be a blockbuster, filled with non-stop activity and entertainment,
including mini-golf, a Ronald McDonald show, dancing, story tellers, balloons, face
painting and more. There’s even a kids’ bumper sticker contest.

Alice and Smokey Bowen have
opened a new restaurant, Fores Restaurant with Alice and Smokey’s
19th Hole Lounge, at 822 Lafayette
Road in Hampton. This is the former
site of Ron Jillian’s.
The Hampton Area Chamber
celebrated grand opening day with
a ribbon cutting. Alice cut the ribbon
with smiles and cheers, surrounded
by the friendly Fores staff and
Chamber representatives.
Alice and Smokey have lived in Hampton for 40 years, and look forward to offering the comfort of their restaurant to their
many friends and visitors. The menu is
varied, and features daily specials, as well
as comfort food, steaks, burgers, and lobster pie. There is a full liquor
license for those cocktails to go with your meal. Fores is open for lunch
