PRESIDENTIAL BIOGRAPHY
WILLIAM W. NAGY, DDS
PRESIDENT, AAFP 2003-2004
Dr. William W. Nagy was born on August 31, 1944 in Battle Creek, MI.
He received his BS from the University of Akron in 1966 and his DDS
from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1970. Following
graduation from dental school he joined the U.S. Army Dental Corp and
served till his retirement at the rank of Colonel in 1993. William had a
fruitful military career in dentistry. He practiced general dentistry
from 1970 to 1976.
In 1978 he received a Certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics at Brooke Army
Medical Center, practicing full time prosthodontics until his retirement from the military in 1993.
His other accomplishments while in the U.S. Army included becoming a Diplomate of the American
Board of Prosthodontics in 1981. He later became Assistant Director of the Combined Prosthodontic
Residency, Brooke Army Medical Center from 1989 to 1990 and Director, from 1990 to 1993. Also in
1989 he was Surgeon Generals “A” Designator for professional attainment in the U.S. Army Medical
Department.
Dr. Nagy entered academics after military retirement and was named Professor and Director
of the Graduate Program in Prosthodontics at Marquette University from 1993 until 2004. He was
President of the Faculty Council at Marquette University School of Dentistry. He then moved to
Baylor College of Dentistry to become Professor and Director, Graduate Program in Prosthodontics,
serving until the present time (written 2008). He practiced in the Faculty Practice at both
institutions.
Dr. Nagy holds active membership in over 20 dental organizations including: American Dental
Association, American College of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics,
Academy of Osseointegration, American and International Association for Dental Research,
Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry, Pierre Fauchard Academy, American College of Dentists
and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Bill has served on over 50 school, university and international committees since 1993. These
include Committee Chair of the Annual Session Board Preparation Course for the American College of
Prosthodontists(2 years), Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics Abstract Section
(1994=1999), Consultant in Prosthodontics for ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation (1994-2004),
ADA Review Committee on Prosthodontic Education, and Chair of the Marquette Promotion and
Tenure Committee (1998-2004), He was also Program Chair for the Annual Scientific Session, , and
Chair of the Future Planning and Policy Committee as well as Director. Additionally, Dr. Nagy has
presented over 200 invited lectures and published 2 book chapters, 12 manuals, 30 scholarly articles,
47 abstracts, and served on and/or chaired 26 MS/PhD committees.
