ello and welcome to the first ever
UKGirlThing Party Inspiration Guide,
the only e-magazine dedicated to hen parties.
We have been very busy here at UKGirlThing
HQ, scooping together all our many years
experience of arranging fantastic events,
mixing in a little hen party inspiration, adding
a dash of party hints and tips and shaken
in a few ideas in order to present to you the
ultimate hen party guide that will assist you in
becoming the hen party hero. We are delighted
to offer you ideas and inspiration for all parts of your hen party planning. So
if you are at the early stages and have no idea where to start, you can take a
look at our party trend reports. These will give you insight into which cities
are presently the most popular (page 10) as well as activities (page 56). Here
you can take a look and see if any of these options tick your very important
personal hen party planning boxes. As it’s our launch edition we also have 5
amazing reader offers for you to take full advantage of (page 99).

with everyone here at work, every
group that goes always has a fab

each person pulls out 1 item from
their purse and discretely puts them
into another handbag provided.
Then the Bride has to guess who
they belong to, doing a forfeit for any
incorrect answers.

Facebook 2.5 years ago. They went to London to
celebrate their anniversary “he had planned to
propose on the London Eye but he couldn’t wait
and popped the question the night before in our
hotel room while I was sat in my pyjamas!“ A
pampering day for my hen party would be lovely.
Laura & Rob from Basingstoke have been together
over 10 years. “I had been really ill with a cold. Rob
kept offering to make me breakfast in bed. He came
up with a tray with champagne and chocolates that
spelt out ‘will you marry me’ then he got on one
knee and gave me the ring. I cried, it was such a

Charis, 39, from Felixstowe and is a stay
at home mum. Charis met her husband
to be on a night out where their eyes met
over a couple of drinks. The rest as they
say is history!
The Hen Do

“Sara already knew Brighton and
knew that we would have a great
time. Sara researched and came
across ukgirlthing.co.uk and
submitted an enquiry. Brian was
our Party Planner and helped us put
together the perfect package for
our group. It was brilliant value for
money and was easier than going
abroad. We chose a gold standard
hotel for 2 nights and decided to
do cocktail making and the after
dark evening meal & club package. I
invited 14 of my closest friends and
family including my mum so we had
a wide age range of ladies from 35
to 63 years old.”
Hussein, 47, is the lucky groom-to-be and
is a transport manager. Hussein’s brother
used to live in Nottingham so it was the
perfect location for their stag do!
The Proposal
After 9 years together during a romantic
break away in London, Hussein asked
Charis that all important question.
“It came as a complete surprise!” explains
Charis. “I said yes straight away.
Hussein knew I wanted to get married
before I turned 40 and with 3 beautiful
children together I knew they would make
the perfect bridesmaids”

and had some great ideas so she was the

“There were 15 of us in total so
we decided the best way to get to
Brighton was in 3 cars. The girls tied
pink ribbons to the car door handles
and put pink posters in all of the car
windows. We were too busy
chatting to play any games during the journey. We listened to the
radio and enjoyed the funny looks
we were getting whilst sat in traffic
delayed at the Dartford crossing.”

Friday Dress Code
Charis’ hen group had arranged
personalised t-shirts for the
group. They were bright pink
with their individual names on
the back. The group wore their
t-shirts out on the Friday evening
with black leggings and neon pink
sunglasses which made them
really stand out. Poor Charis
didn’t get off quite as lightly and
was presented with her 1st dare
in a pink gift box. “The main dare
we asked Charis to perform was
to wear the neon pink shell-suit,
ankle warmers, gloves and neon
pink sunglasses “Very foxy, very
hot!” recalls Charis.
Friday Evening
On the Friday evening the group
booked the After Dark package
which included a bar guide of
the best bars in Brighton with a 2
course meal at an Italian
restaurant. ‘‘The food at Al
Duomo was amazing! We then
took a walk to the seafront where
we had a go on the carousel.’’
The Hotel
“Our gold hotel we stayed in was
ideal. It was perfectly located
right in the centre of Brighton so
we were within walking distance
of all of our activities. It was nice
and clean and the quad rooms
we had booked were cosy. The
hotel staff were lovely and very
helpful. The food was brilliant
and we even got our own private
room for breakfast which was
great as it made us all feel really
special and meant we could all
sit together and be as loud as
we wanted without upsetting
any of the other hotel guests!”

Charis’ friends had prepared a
game of Mr & Mrs for her to play
during dinner on the Saturday
evening. They had asked the
Groom-to-be several questions
before they left for the weekend
and Charis had to try and guess
what his answers were. “Charis
didn’t do that well! Oops!” recalls
Sara.

fantastic and everything ran so
smoothly! We had the best time
ever and most importantly the
bride was overwhelmed! I can’t

Nina, 40, is the Operations Manager here
at UKGirlThing. Nina is also very busy
looking after her lovely 3 year old
daughter. Nina and her hubby hit it off
online, although had known each other
since childhood.
The Hen Do
“I had an idea in my mind of what
activities I wanted to do and my
favorite locations, I shared these
with Larisa and she came up with a
perfect package for me. All the
planning went smoothly thanks to
my party organiser Chloe. We
decided on a gold hotel in Leeds
and chose glamour puss, cocktail
making and Adonis as our activities.
There were 11 of us at my hen party
and we all had so much fun. I gave
everyone the option of coming for
either 1 or 2 nights as I appreciate
some of my friends have children
and preferred a 1 night stay, where
others wanted a full 2 night party
weekend. This is what I recommend
others to do, as friends can then
choose what works best for them.”
The Groom-to-be
Jay, 41, works for Nottingham City
Council. Jay went to Liverpool for his Stag
Do and also enjoyed a local night out,
getting the best of both worlds.
The Proposal
The couple have been together for 4 years
when Jay popped the question and he
did it in real style. Nina was completely
shocked when he unexpectedly proposed
on the beach in Thailand.

Surprise #1
Whilst the group where chatting
and enjoying a few lunchtime
tipples, Larisa went upstairs in
the hotel where they had hired a
private room. Larisa then dressed
the room with hen party sprinkles
and party decorations, ordered
bubbly and nibbles and prepared
the 1st surprise of the day,
photos of Nina placed on the wall
with a themed caption of ‘Nina
Loves…….’. Taking 20 themes
such as ‘Nina Loves the 1980’s’,
‘Nina Loves to Dance’ the group
before hand had individually
selected hilarious photos of Nina
along with these themes, so there
were over 50 photos on the walls
ranging in ages from being a
baby to the present day.
Surprise #2
The Hotel
With the private room
complete, there was a knock at
the door. The 2nd surprise had
just arrived….a Butler in the Buff.
Richard was hired to surprise
Nina and to serve our drinks and
nibbles for the afternoon. After a
call downstairs to ‘the partner in
crime’, Nina and the group where
ushered upstairs where Nina was
asked to walk into the room first.
Upon sight of Richard the Butler
in Buff, words such as ‘priceless’
and ‘hilarious’ come to mind!
“Our hotel was located a stones
throw away from the train station
in the heart of the city and was
stunning with a modern fresh
feel to it. The staff were all
helpful and catered to all our
needs. Our rooms were all
smartly decorated and we all
thought they were lovely. After a
heavy night drinking the hotel’s
breakfast went down a treat, it
was really tasty!”
Saturday Morning
After a full English breakfast in
the morning recovering from the
night before, the Friday night
girls sat in the sunshine until the
Saturday ladies arrived in Leeds
and all met on the terrace at the
Hotel.
Glamour Puss
With everyone suitably surprised,
it was time for the first activity,
Glamour Puss. Beauticians were
hired to glam up the group. The
beauticians had laid out the room
with a cosmetic candy store of lip
glosses, eye shadows, eyelashes
and nail varnishes so each person
could choose what they would
like. For the next few hours the
group enjoyed their afternoon of
being pampered, great
conversation and giggles with
their glasses topped up by their
attentive butler. Bliss!

Nina’s friends had prepared a

during the Glamour Puss Event.
The group used their Butler to

game, which was loads of fun,
although I didn’t do as well as I
thought. If Jay asks why, I’ll just
blame it on the alcohol!”

we had a real laugh with!’’

in the evening was fantastic
and action packed from start
to finish. The guys didn’t take
themselves too seriously and
certainly didn’t disappoint. It
was the funniest night out ever
and everyone was crying with
laughter it was so funny. The
show was really well done!’’

“The best surprise was the
butler, he was a real sweetheart
and wish he could have stayed
with us the whole night! Also the
professional photographer that
captured all the best moments
on our day. A few days after my
hen party 1 of my hens made a
scrapbook with loads of photos
and funny captions underneath,
I loved this idea and now have a
momento of the weekend.”

Lisa is a business Adviser from Doncaster.
Whilst waiting for a flight in Doncaster
airport she met her future hubby.
The Groom To Be
Steve is a 30 year old engineer who fell
for Lisa as soon as he spotted her at the
airport. He went to Liverpool with a group
of lads for his stag do.
The Proposal
Steve is a lead guitarist in a band. He told
Lisa he had written a song for her and
took her for a picnic along the beach. As
they were sitting under the blanket he
sang the last line of his song; “if I am down
on one knee would you marry me?” He
then got down on one knee and officially
proposed. His band have recorded this
song for our first dance.

“Two of us drove to the hotel in
Nottingham. Although there was a bit
of a delay thanks to traffic on the M1,
we kept ourselves entertained by

Saturday Spa-rty
Lisa chose a Spa-rty and enjoyed
spa treatments in a party
environment. The group enjoyed
a whole host of beauty
treatments including back, neck
and scalp massages, facial’s
and manicures. The group also
enjoyed a foot treatment each
with robes and slippers. Not
forgetting the gorgeous chocolate
fondue with dipping treats.
Games and Dares
At the spa-rty the group played
Twister ‘‘very elegantly in our
robes!’’ Lisa added. Lisa really
didn’t want any embarrassing
games on the night out, which
her ladies fully appreciated. ‘‘The
worst I had to do was wear funny
glasses and a feather boa whilst
drinking a shot.’’
Goody Bags
“I provided all my hens with
goody bags, they all loved them.
They included paracetamol to
help with the hangovers, sweets,
chewing gum, sashes, pins and
an itinerary.“

venue and enjoyed an evening

On the Friday evening Lisa’s
group went to TGI Fridays as
part of their After Dark package.
‘‘The waiter was such a
character and tied the balloons
to my bra strap so I spent the
night with a huge bunch of
balloons. After the meal we
headed to our club which was
fantastic, the music was great
and suited all ages. We all loved
the revolving dance floor, my
friend kept saluting people every
time she went past!’’

with the same colour scheme.
So Lisa wore a very glam white
dress with a red sash
personalised with her future name

and close to the bars, it was
only a 5-10 minute walk. Even
though there was 33 of us the
host helped us all make cocktails.
There were lots of fun games
played and we got lots of drinks
for the money we paid. Everyone
had such a laugh and loved it,
even the food after was
amazing.” The group then
enjoyed the nightlife by visiting
more bars and late night venues
in and around the Printworks.

4* Hotel in the centre of the city
due to its great location and
contemporary feel. “Our hotel
was excellent. I had an upgrade
on my room as I was the Bride
to Be. The room was huge, it
had 2 double beds and a big
lounge area, I felt very spoilt! The
hotel breakfast was delicious,
there was a wide variety
including fresh omelettes, which
was perfect for a hangover. The
location of the hotel was great,
we could walk to our activity
which meant we could save
money on taxi fare.”

recommend having a word with her.
Your hen party is extremely
important to you, as well as
your friends who will be paying to
join you and you don’t want them
to see you in tears! So have a
private word with her and let her
know anything you would love to
do, but as important, tell her what
you classify as truly horrible and
you would hate with a passion. It’s
really important here that there is no
ambiguity, make sure she is really
clear on what types of things to
steer well clear of. On a separate
note, have you considered, that she
might be pulling your leg? Maybe
she’s leading you on to think you
are having the hen party from hell
and surprise you with something
glam and sophisticated! So
definitely don’t fall out about it, just
have a quiet word so everyone is
still on the same page.

I am in charge of organising a hen
party for my best friend. She won’t
be drinking so the typical night
out isn’t an option. I need some ideas,
but here are some issues that must be
considered: • age range 18-60 • up to
15 ladies • she will be 6 months pregnant
at the time • good value for money. Any
suggestions?
Isabel says: Ask your friend if
she feels radiant or the complete
opposite. If she feels radiant then
how about a supermodel makeover,
where she will be treated to a makeover
then enjoy a photographic session with
a professional photographer. At 6 months pregnant your best friend
and her bump are bound to get some beautiful shots, which will be
treasured for a lifetime! If she is feeling anything but radiant then how
about a relaxing spa day. Here she can be prune like in the jacuzzi,
enjoy the relaxation rooms while being pampered with a beauty
treatment. Do seek advise from the spa what is and isn’t suitable for
pregnant ladies as some treatments are not recommended, so just be
aware of this as you want to be armed with all the information.

Emily says: Butlers in the buff are a great idea when you are

come to either your house or hotel, serve you cocktails and canapes
whilst you get ready, and they will even wash up at the end! There is
something very satisfying about a man being at the beck and call of a

Shona says: Ring her up and explain the situation, if she is a
true friend, she would want you to have the best possible time
at your hen party! She probably didn’t realise why you wanted
to keep it to the people you have invited, so if you explain the situation
this generally sorts it out.

Try to avoid any movies
that are too depressing, as you
can guarantee one of the girls
will end up in tears and the
whole night will revolve around
her sob story and not about
the hen and her last night of
freedom! So Titanic probably
wouldn’t be the best idea!
Chick flicks are great for a girls
night in and classics can differ
dependant on what age group
you are. So if you are all in your
30’s how about Dirty Dancing,
Grease or Mamma Mia. Mainly
as they have great songs within
them to grab your hairbrush
to! My personal favourite for a
girls night in, which makes me
howl with laughter every time
is Bridget Jones Diary. I’m sure
everybody can relate to her
and I bet you, somebody in
the group will be wearing the
famous stretchy Bridget Jones
pants!

of organizing my sisters hen

way for a group to bond,
especially when you have people
that have never met before, is
through lots of laughter! If you are
a very organised bridesmaid, try
and get a really funny story from
each of the hens before the hen
party. On the day of the hen party,
the bride to be has to read each
one out and try and guess which
member of her party is the culprit
behind each embarrassing story!
Trust me, this game will have you
in stitches! If you are still worried
about there being a few awkward
silences, why not try and get all the
guests together for either a night in
or a few drinks at the pub a week
or so before the party. Everybody
can then get their introductions out
the way and when it comes to the
hen do, everyone will already be
introduced and ready to celebrate
the Bride to Be’s last night of
freedom!

bridesmaid, organising a hen party can be stressful.
To help we have put together this useful checklist......
12-24 MONTHS BEFORE
• If you are the lucky lady who has been given
the responsibility of planning the hen party on
behalf of the bride, it’s best to start planning
early and give yourself plenty of time.
• Ask the bride to describe her perfect hen
party, what would she like to do and where
would she like to go.
• If you are planning the hen party as a surprise
for the bride, tactically get her to describe what
she would hate, so you can totally avoid this.
• Consider a date that suits the bride to be, it’s
best if this date suits her immediate friends and
family who would be coming on the hen do too.
That way you set off on a good foot and keep
everyone happy.
• Consider a budget that the bride and her
invitees would find realistic. Here at UKGirlThing

2 MONTHS BEFORE
• Begin to get the money together. If you
have booked with UKGirlThing we can help

their own leisure. To help even further, every

• If you are planning on having fancy

Sleeping Arrangements
When planning the rooming list for the hotel, be
conscious of who knows each other and if they don’t
know each other then ask the Bride to see if they would
get on well. Also make sure all the ladies know if they
are in their own beds (twin rooms) or sharing beds
(double rooms). Some groups don’t mind having to
share in the slightest, whereas some might not be keen.
It is important to make everyone feel comfortable.

Why not ask the girls to give a couple of pounds to put
towards expenses such as snacks and drinks. This will
make it fair and mean that not just one person will be

We asked our stags for their hints and tips on
how to make your stag party one to remember.
Here’s what they said...
We asked our stags for their funniest party games
and here’s what they said. As you can imagine, most
involve drinking, but can be adapted to include funny
forfeits. As always guys please keep safe and drink
responsibly.

The stag weekend in another city should be
held 1 month or at least 3 weekends before the
wedding. To begin with it is advisable to settle
with a few rough dates for the stag weekend
and discuss these with the groom first, as he is the
most important person of the stag weekend and the
dates have to suit him.

Going to another city will add an exciting
thrill to your stag weekend plans and have
everyone fired up for a cracking stag party!
Choosing the right location is an essential
element of a successful stag weekend. However this
depends mostly on the groom again, as you need to
consider the places where he would be happy to go.

The most important aspects
you need to consider are
the budget of the group, the
amount of time the participants
will spend away from their families or
partners and the amount of time to be
taken off work.

As you are going to another city
make sure that you have plenty
of activities planned. Perhaps
you don’t want to spend the
whole stag weekend in a pub but want
to pack the weekend with activities you
might remember such as an adventure
combo day.

Evening activities such as
dining, visiting pubs and
bars are essential elements
of the stag weekend. You
need to choose the venues carefully
and consider whether there might
be venues where stag parties are
becoming less welcome or even where
they don’t accept stag groups any
more because they have had bad

The best man chooses a girl and
any word. The groom must
approach the chosen girl and
attempt to talk to her but has to
end his first sentence with the
chosen word and every sentence
thereafter with a word that rhymes
with it.

clockwise and the
person flipping the
coin asks the person
beside them whether
or not they want
heads or tails. If the
person guesses right
they receive the coin
and do the same to

If you are right handed, you must

No Names
This is one for the whole weekend.
You cannot use anyone’s
name, this includes surnames,
middle names and long standing
nicknames. Each member of
the group must be given a fresh
nickname for the night, which is
chosen by all other members of
the group. Failure to use the new
nickname at any point will result in
drinking 4 fingers of your drink.
No Pointing
Whenever anybody points at
anything, no matter what it is, that
person must do a forfeit. The use of
elbows, heads and anything else other
than a finger is allowed.

Synchronise Watches
When the minute hand is between the
numbers 1 and 29, everyone must drink
with their left hand. When the minute
hand is between 31 and 59 minutes
past the hour all stags must drink with
their right hand. When the minute hand
is pointing at 30 you are not allowed to
drink or hold your glass. If you spot a
fellow stag with their glass in the wrong
hand, then a forfeit is to be taken.

The Results
It seems like the endless hours on the
Playsation 3 paid off as Garry topped the
table against his friends by coming first in
Archery. His steady aim and technique
made him the number 1 shooter. Garry
loved it that much he recommends it for
anyone : “Archery was great and you don’t
need to have experience to do it”.

The Background
The big weekend for Garry took place in
Bournemouth where he and his stag party
ventured to the south coast for a weekend
which he will never forget. They chose the
ideal time of the year to go too, as during
June the sun starts to shine its rays on
Bournemouths fantastic beach.
Garry organised this weekend
with Gents Events and Chloe
was his personal Party

The Activities
Shooting was on the cards as Garry and his
party went on a Clay Pigeon and Archery
packed afternoon. These are one of our
most popular stag activity choices at Gents
Events as it really splits the boys from the
men and gets the adrenaline pumping.
Fancy Dress
Being a massive fan of the Playsation 3,
Garry embarked on his stag do dressed as
a Playstation - His 2nd most favourite thing
in the world (after his wife of course). He
really loved the theme. He even bumped
into Pugsy the bear at the services and got
him to pose in a photo.
