MX-2424
HARD DISK RECORDER
HHB has supplied more
TASCAM multitracks and
more digital mixing
consoles than any other UK dealer. Our
extensive experience in the requirements of
recording, post and broadcast users, combined
with a commitment to first-class technical
service, makes HHB the first choice for TASCAM
professional audio technology. As an impressive
TASCAM offering expands to encompass both
tape and hard disk recorders, digital mixers and
a full workstation, we’re pleased to bring you
this overview of the range and look forward to
answering any further questions you may have.
With 24-tracks of 24-bit/48kHz audio
recording, full analogue and digital connectivity,
Pro Tools® compatibility, dedicated editing
controls and a powerful dual processor engine,
the new MX-2424 is a uniquely flexible, high
quality digital multitrack recorder.
• EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO QUALITY
Ideally equipped for a range of multitrack recording, post and
mastering applications, the MX-2424 delivers 24 tracks of
high quality 24-bit/48kHz recording, or 12 tracks of hiresolution 24-bit/96kHz recording for use in mastering, DVD
production, etc. Operation of the MX-2424 is entirely
intuitive, with front-panel transport and full editing controls.
A powerful dual-processor engine and fast SCSI bus ensures
seamless punch-ins across all 24 tracks, with 1000 levels of
undo, just in case. And with the MX-View graphical interface,
DAW-style visual audio editing is possible, with real-time
crossfades. A range of optional 24-channel I/O interfaces
includes TDIF, ADAT Optical, AES/EBU and Analogue.
• FORMAT FRIENDLY
Designed to fit harmoniously into any Mac or PC environment,
the MX-2424 reads both HFS and FAT-32 format hard drives
and will automatically record the correct format of audio file
to each. With Sound Designer II and Broadcast Wave files
included, you can remove a drive for the MX-2424 and plug it
straight into a wide range of DAWs including Pro Tools®.
The 9.1GB internal hard drive provides 45 minutes of
24-track 24-bit/48kHz recording, with a 5.25" front-panel
drive bay and rear-panel SCSI port for additional drives.
And for larger projects, the T-BUS ports on the rear panel
sync up to 32 MX-2424 recorders for 384 tracks of
24-bit/96kHz audio.

• RC-2424 REMOTE CONTROL
• MX-VIEW GRAPHICAL EDITING INTERFACE
Designed to perfectly complement the MX-2424, the
optional RC-2424 remote control features the familiar
front-panel layout of the MX-2424. There are dedicated
keys for editing features, including capturing and auditioning
in/out points for edits, with eight macros for storing
commonly-used keystroke sequences. Status LEDs provide
visual feedback of input status, channel overload, record
and selected mode for all 24 channels, together with
general information about sample rate, time code, record
mode, lock and sync.
Designed specifically for the MX-2424, the MX-View is a
graphical editing interface for both Macs and PCs,
comparable to many digital audio workstations. Not only
does it enable sample-level waveform editing, click and pop
repair using the pencil tool, audio drag and drop editing and
real-time crossfades,
it also replicates the
front panel features
of the MX-2424
recorder, providing
complete editing
control. The MX-View
is fully customisable,
with transport, locate
markers and meter
positions storable as
user preferences. Colour-coded edit groups make editing
across multiple tracks far simpler, with 100 named location
points for fast audio searching. The MX-View uses the
100Mbit Ethernet interface to transfer audio files to and
from a computer, enabling storage of files or entire projects.
The MX-View also acts as a central interface, since up to six
MX-2424 recorders can be displayed and edited on the same
screen simultaneously, with 24-track meters monitoring levels.
The RC-2424 can control up to six MX-2424 recorders
directly, with dedicated buttons to access each recorder,
or can control more recorders by stacking more than one
recorder on each button. This makes for an exceptionally
flexible system.

DA-98HR
HIGH RESOLUTION DTRS RECORDER
The DA-98HR
high-resolution
8-track DTRS recorder
features up to 24-bit/
192kHz recording, AES/EBU
digital I/O and confidence
monitoring, offering a robust,
tape-based solution for
professional recording, post
and mastering applications.
• PROVEN PERFORMANCE
If it’s time to upgrade your DA-88, look no further than the DA-98HR
high-resolution DTRS recorder. Based on a precision professional Hi8
video transport, the DA-98HR is fully compatible with the DA-88 family
of recorders. It features 16 or 24-bit recording, with all settings
adjustable via a comprehensive menu system that has 12 advanced
control buttons and a clear LCD screen. Confidence monitoring is
available for mastering and live recording applications, allowing
recordings to be verified off tape, with a row of input monitor switches
under each track’s level meter for quick source/tape level comparison.
• EASY DIGITAL INTEGRATION
With its AES/EBU digital I/O, the DA-98HR enables instant
integration with other studio equipment, including digital patchbays
and digital audio workstations. It can be controlled via serial 9-pin or
RC-828/RC-898 remotes and can be synchronised to other DTRS
recorders for up to 128 tracks.
• DA-78HR AND NEW DS-D98
The DA78HR (pictured below) is a cost-effective alternative for users
that do not require the advanced menu functions and AES/EBU digital
I/O offered by the DA-98HR. And for those involved in SACD work,
the new DS-D98 combines all the
functions of the DA-98HR with the
ability to record 2 tracks of DSD
(Direct Stream Digital), the
2.8224MHz bitstream which forms
the basis of the Sony SACD format.

DOUBLE-COATED FOR INCREASED PERFORMANCE
New HHB DA30DC, DA60DC and DA113DC metal particle DTRS tapes are
approved by TASCAM for use with the new generation of 24-bit high
sampling rate DTRS recorders. Also delivering significant benefits
in existing 16-bit DTRS applications, the new HHB tapes are
double coated for higher output, improved Carrier/Noise
ratio and consistently lower block error rates, eliminating
the interpolation and muting problems that can afflict
conventional Hi8 tapes when used for multitrack recording.
