PRESIDENT
LETTER
BRIAN LICHTENBERGER
VICE PRESIDENT
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear residents and guests,
It’s been great to see so many of you enjoying all our Wheeling Park District activities and facilities!
There’s still lots of summer left so we invite you to spend it outdoors with us at Heritage Park.
On Thursday, August 18, the free showing of Disney’s Inside Out starts at 8 p.m. Wheeling Walks,
our free community, all-ages walking club, meets every Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Children will
love Miss Jamie’s Farm on stage at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20. Free concerts are held every Sunday
at 5 p.m. through August 28. Celebrate cultures from around the globe at the Passport to the World
International Festival on Saturday, August 27, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It all takes place at the Heritage Park
Performance Pavilion.
MIKE BURNS
CHERI KLUMPP
The Family Aquatic Center is open at 10 a.m. every day through August 22. Post season hours are
10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekends through Monday, September 5. The last day of Summer Camp
is August 12, but for those who don’t want it to end, we are offering a week of Post Camp before
school starts.
Speaking of school, the Wheeling Park District is very proud of our partnerships with both District 21
and District 214. These intergovernmental agreements allow us to offer expanded programming like
intramurals, before- and after-school care and special events to the community at our shared facilities.
Cooler temperatures bring even more special events. Fallapalooza is back Sunday, September 18,
1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with live music, petting zoo, inflatables, kids’ crafts, pony rides, hayrides, and more!
Fall into Fitness also kicks off on September 18, with two weeks of fitness fun that include free classes,
exclusive offers, food drive, and fitness activities.
New this year is Oktoberfest at the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion for two days - Friday and
Saturday, October 7 and 8, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gather family and friends for food, merriment and music
including two live bands: 7th Heaven and Bella Cain. Admission is $5 per person; ages 12 years and
under are free.
BOO-Nanza (for ages 10 years and under) is Friday, October 28, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the CRC. Show off
your costume while playing on inflatables, decorating pumpkins, creating themed crafts and more. Take
to the Chase at the Chevy Chase 5K on Sunday, November 13, at 9 a.m. The race route follows the scenic
cart paths at Chevy Chase Country Club.
For all of you golfers, be sure to take in a round at Chevy Chase this fall. Check out the special events at
Chevy Chase on pages 46 and 47.
A complete listing of events is available online at www.wheelingparkdistrict.com/specialevents.
We hope you’re enjoying your Wheeling Park District and happy fall.
Yours in Parks and Recreation,
Sue Stein, President
Board of Commissioners
MIKE KURGAN
RICH ROSEN
JAMES WHITTINGTON
The Wheeling Park District is governed by a Board
of seven publicly-elected Commissioners who serve
four-year terms without compensation.
Park District Board meetings take place the 1st and 3rd
Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 pm at various
facilities owned by the Wheeling Park District.

PRESCHOOL
ALMOST THREE, JUST LIKE ME
CHILDREN WHO TURN THREE BETWEEN
SEPTEMBER 1 & DECEMBER 31, 2016
If your child has a “late” birthday, get
a head start in our Preschool program.
Teachers developed this class to
encourage the transition from home
to school with an introduction to group
activities, following directions, and social
skills. All of this serves to support the
“learning through play” philosophy.
TERRIFIC THREES
MUST BE THREE BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2016
START SMART PRE-K
MUST BE FOUR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2016
The three-year-old program is
designed for a child ready to flourish
in a school setting. Our program stresses
socialization, cooperative play, fine motor
skills, sharing, and following directions.
Choose from a two-day per week or
a three-day per week class option.
Terrific Threes is the middle step in our
continuum of “learning though play.”
In this positive, nurturing environment,
children are introduced to colors,
letters, and numbers, all of which
help to encourage a love of learning
and education.
The four-year-old curriculum develops
skills needed for entering kindergarten
in area school districts. Our program
is based on suggestions and input from
School District #21 kindergarten
teachers and stresses the development
of independence and cognitive skills
through learning centers, structured
activities, socialization, cooperative and
dramatic play, and sharing. In this final
step before kindergarten, make sure your
eager learner is as prepared as possible!

MURDER MYSTERY DINNER SHOW
DATE: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30 • TIME: 7:00 – 10:00 PM
LOCATION: GRAND BALLROOM
TICKET PRICE: $75/PERSON
Chevy Chase returns to its roots in the roaring ‘20s Gatsby era of Chicago to bring you an authentic backdrop for this costume-optional dinner show. Things take a turn for the gutter at Mafia Don
Lou Zar’s juice joint when someone’s “put on ice!” The crowd is chock full of potential suspects.
Jealous, jilted lovers, a rival Mafioso and a pair of undercover feds make an appearance at this
speakeasy. Not a single person is muttering a word. Help find out who’s on the level and who’s on
the lam by trading clues with the guests, gathering information, and solving the crime before the
murderer hotfoots it out of there. Dress for this night of murderous mayhem. Flapper dresses, zoot
suits, feather boas, headbands, pinstriped suits and fedoras are all the rage. If you aren’t feeling that
jive, dress as a private detective to help solve the crime, just don’t frame the wrong guy!
Act 1: mingling of cast and guests; cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served, five minutes of investigation.
Act 2: entrée served; five minutes of investigation
Act 3: dessert served; five minutes of investigation

BEHAVIOR & CONDUCT
Guests are expected to exhibit appropriate
behavior at all times. Please observe the
following guidelines:
1. Show respect to all guests and staff.
2. Refrain from using foul or obscene language.
3. Refrain from causing bodily harm to others.
4. Show respect for equipment, supplies,
and facility.
5. Children under age 10 must be supervised
by an adult, age 17 years or older, at all
times at all recreation facilities.
THORGUARD LIGHTNING
PREDICTION & WARNING SYSTEM
By measuring the amount of electrical charge in
the atmosphere, Thorguard predicts with a high
degree of certainty the probability of a lightning
strike within a covered area. This system warns
guests and staff with a horn and strobe system
when a lightning strike hazard is present. Areas
served by Thorguard include Heritage Park,
Family Aquatic Center, CRC, and all adjacent
areas and neighborhoods.
The system is intended to warn guests and
staff of probable lightning hazards in the area
so lightning-related injuries and deaths can
be avoided. Since Thorguard is a lightning
prediction system, it is possible for the
warning system to be activated even when
weather conditions do not seem to indicate
lightning is present. Be assured that these
warnings are accurate and must be followed
to ensure personal safety.
Two distinct signals sent out by Thorguard:
RED ALERT External warning horns blare for
15 seconds and strobe lights begin to blink.
This signifies a lightning hazard in the area.
All outdoor recreation activity should be
suspended and guests and staff should seek
appropriate shelter, preferably indoors.
ALL CLEAR External warning horns give three
consecutive blasts lasting 3-5 seconds each.
This means the lightning hazard has left the
area and it is safe to resume normal activities.
Chevy Chase is protected under the WeatherBug
lightning detection system.
LOCKER ROOMS
The locker room is an amenity available for
use by all CRC participants. The purpose is
for storage of personal belongings while using
the facility. Each participant needs to furnish
his/her own lock. Overnight storage is available.
Private locker rooms are available on a rental
basis. For more information see the Fitness
section of this Program Guide.
The Wheeling Park District is not responsible
for lost and/or stolen property. Please do not
store valuables in lockers. Wallet lockers are
available in the Arctic Splash, gymnasium,
and Fitness Center.
IMAGE RECORDING DEVICES
The use of any image recording devices,
including video recorders, cameras, and phone
cameras, is strictly prohibited in all Wheeling
Park District facility locker rooms, washrooms,
and shower areas.
Please report any violations immediately to
facility management.
VANDALISM
The Wheeling Park District has experienced
a tremendous amount of vandalism. This
vandalism in our community has included
acts of arson, destruction of playground
equipment and landscaping materials,
destruction of bathroom fixtures, stolen
materials, and graffiti, as well as the destruction
of the waterfall feature at Husky Park.
Vandalism affects residents and other guests
when bathrooms are closed, playground
equipment is under repair, and amenities are
not available for use. Vandalism is costly to
repair and results in higher insurance costs.
In order to ensure the safest parks and facilities
possible, we need your help. We ask that when
you see or hear about vandalism or something
that may be unsafe, such as broken playground
equipment, or anything else that you feel may
be hazardous, please call 847-465-3333 or
complete the online Report a Problem form
under the Parks and Facilities tab.
REWARD PROGRAM
Help the Wheeling Park District stop
vandalism in your neighborhood park.
Call us with information about the person
or persons who vandalize any Wheeling Park
District property. This would include the
destruction of any property such as vehicles,
playground equipment, or landscape materials,
the theft of any equipment or materials, any
act of arson, and any act of graffiti.
If your information leads to arrest, case
resolution and/or restitution, you will be
given a reward from $500 to $5000. Your
name will be kept confidential.
