Meet Your Board of Directors
JUNE SPOTLIGHT: Marlane Carcopo
Marlane Carcopo is a great
example of the modern day
“super woman”!
She is the 2nd Vice President
of the Chamber Board of Directors, the chamber’s newsletter
editor, the Wallace Revitalization Association Interim President, a member of the Friends
of the Depot Committee, and
Advertising Manager for the
Duplin Times.
She is also the administrator
for the Wallace, Warsaw and Rose Hill chambers’ Facebook pages and was a section chief
for the 2015 Carolina Strawberry Festival.
Marlane is passionate about helping businesses in Wallace and Duplin County to be
successful. A creative thinker
and designer with all that she
attempts to do, she has a giving
heart and is always willing to assist anyone that has a need.
Marlane is married to Bob
Carcopo, and has three sons,
Daniel, and twins David and
Jonathan. She also has a couple
of “Yorkie-mix fur babies,”
named Cocoa Puff and Mia that
she loves dearly.
The Chamber is proud to have
Marlane as a Board member. We appreciate
all the work that she does throughout the
year for the chamber, its members, the Town
of Wallace and Duplin County!

Serious, Funny. Important- just another chamber meeting!
The May meeting of the Greater Wallace Chamber of Commerce had something for everybody! First, there was great
food on the buffet at the new Golden
City restaurant- and a beautiful private
meeting room to hold the meeting in!
Then there were our speakers! Marilyn
Blair from Legal Shield shared both her
personal and professional experience
as a client and representative of Legal
Shield. She explained the benefits of the
program to individuals and the benefits
of being an entrepreneur as an agent of
the company. Steve Melia continued
that discussion, explaining how he was
able to take months living his dream of
seeing every Yankee baseball in a seasonand chronicling it in the book “162”.
Rhonda Campbell of Murphy Brown
discussed an issue close to the heart and
financial solidity of the area regarding
lawsuits being filed against local farmers.

VA Commemorative Unit opens at the Brian Center
The Brian Center on SE
Railroad St. in Wallace held a
ribbon cutting on May 15 to
open The Freedom Wing VA
Commemorative Unit. The
wing will have 4 units dedicated to serving Veterans.
The Brian Center also celebrated National Nursing
Home Week with a Nursing
Home Parade.
Harvey Knowles of Wallace
salute the Veterans by playing
the official songs of their respective branch of the service
on the harmonica during the
event.
The Lower Cape Fear Hospice presented the movie
“Honor Flight: One Last Mis-
sion”. Honor Flight is a heartwarming documentary about
four living World War II veterans and a community coming
together to give them the trip
of a lifetime. Volunteers race
against the clock to fly thousands of World War II veterans
to Washington, D.C., to see
the memorial constructed for
them in 2005, nearly 60 years
after the War.
“Honor Flight” also chronicles the stories of veterans Joe
Demler and Harvey Kurz. They
raise money for and promote
the Honor Flight program to
help fly as many of their fellow veterans to see the memorial as possible.

Ribbon Cutting
WALLACE ARMORY is open at 106 West Main St.
in Wallace. Owners Wendell and Alice Morgan have
gone from an online sales site to a brick and mortar
location offering guns, ammo and gunsmith repair
services.
The location is open Monday and Tuesday by appointment, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. , and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m.
