Aim of hospital school
The common aim of hospital school is to
assure sick children the continuity of
education, even during the period of
illness
Purposes:
 Keeping in contact with the reality of the child in
hospital and outside world through school activities
 Motivate the interest in cognitive activities
 Facilitating the return to the school of origin
 Recovering the autonomy and the ability to organize
everyday life
12
Educational Program
 In our Center hospital teachers continue
to follow the educational program of
every child.
 After diagnosis the hospital staff undertake
contacts with the teachers at the school of
origin, via a letter to the headmaster and an
informational booklet including information
about the disease and how to cope with the ill
child.

THE EDUCATIONAL PATH
Welcome
Teaching activity
Reintegration into the school
of origin
14
WELCOME
to understand and answer the pupil's
needs and expectations
to promote a faster integration in the
hospital
to create good conditions to start the
educational relationship
15
TEACHING ACTIVITY
....according to a didactic planning suited
to follow the dynamic situations ...
o A teaching curriculum arranged with the pupil's
school of origin, to establish a working
relationship from the beginning
o realization of interdisciplinary projects designed
as containers which stimulate the interest and
the expressiveness of the pupil
16
REINTEGRATION
Particular attention is given to the time when the
student is allowed to return to the school of
origin...
o When possible, one of the doctors goes to the
school of origin and explains the medical aspects
of leukemia to the teachers and to the child’s
classmates. The sick child usually takes part in
this activity and is actively involved
“Children – Health – Future. Our time belongs to the
children and children who were torn from the grips
of death cannot be neglected in school, in a
society that believes in its future. Schooling does
not follow the cure. This would be too late.”
