ST. JOHN NEUMANN
From the Pastor
Hard to believe that it is Father’s Day already!
While this particular day does not get the pomp
and circumstance that is due on Mother’s Day; it is
certainly no less important. What strikes me even
more is the role our human fathers play in helping us all to understand
the role that God the Father plays in our lives of discipleship.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (paragraphs 2777-2802)
has a long reflection of our calling God “Father” and the implications
this has on us as adopted sons and daughters of God. However,
to begin, we must first acknowledge, with Tertullian, that “the
expression God the Father had never been revealed to anyone. When
Moses himself asked God who he was, he heard another name.” The
notion and idea of God as “Father” comes directly from the Son, who
is the revelation of the Father!
However, there is always a caveat, a warning, when we discuss
God; for God always transcends the categories of the created world.
But in order to say anything, we have to use the terms of this world,
weak though they are.
Thankfully, our understanding of God as Father is not reliant
solely on human terms, but rather through that lived relationship,
being drawn into communion with God. As with our human fathers,
this communion does not begin with the self, but with the outpouring
from the Father towards the one begotten. God, in His great love,
pours all that He is into us, so that we can have life to the fullness as
promised by God!
This fullness comes to us through our adoption by God. And in
this adoption, we grow in a desire to be like the One who has adopted
us! There is a response that wells up in us to make the Father proud;
to make the Father beam upon us, in the return of our love towards
Him!
Yet, as with our earthly fathers, there is also a notion of that trust
we have as sons and daughters. No matter how old we are or how
much taller we get, we always still look up to our dads. We should
also look up to our Heavenly Father, as well.
There is so much more to say and express, yet I leave a last
thought: how blessed it is to be the “father” of these two communities.
Although I know I fall way short, at times, of what I should be
and should do; it is a true joy to learn what it means to be a spiritual
father in serving Corpus Christi and St. John Neumann. Please know
that I do pray for you all, daily. And even when I am away from
here, you are always with me in spirit. Please continue to pray that
I may be a good and holy pastor, after the heart of the One Father in
Heaven!
In the Eternal Son,
Fr. Kyle Schnippel
We would like to offer our sympathy and
prayers to the family of Gary Huddleston. He is
the husband of parishioner Jeanne Huddleston.
Please keep the Huddleston family in your
prayers.
“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness.”
– St. John Paul II
A Prayer for Father’s Day
Beloved God, we thank You for giving us our Dad and for the many
ways he shows us your fatherly care. On this, his special day, we
ask You to bless him with Your peace and joy. Give him the strength
and understanding he needs to care for us as a family. Help us to
appreciate more all he does for us and to show him how much we
love him. Amen!
Praying for Vocations….Thank you to those taking the
Vocation Chalice. To have the Vocation Chalice in your home, call
Diane Sova at 330-6440 or the parish office at 742-0953. Prayer
materials are provided.
Vocation Chalice for the week of June 19
Gary & Mary Ann Burns
Parents: Following is the conversation starter for this week. We
continue to look for opportunities and materials that will serve to
support you in forming your children’s faith. We welcome your
feedback to Dottie at [email protected] or 742-0953, ext. 13.
These activities come from a program called, “The Meal Box.” The
intent is to provide meal time conversation starters that will engage
your children and tips for the parents to apply the general theme to
the family’s faith life.
Table Discussion: If you could change one thing about
the way your favorite holiday is celebrated, what would
you change?
Parents: Sharing favorite holidays and how they are
celebrated gives you insights about what is important
to your child. Use this information as a basis or starting
point to discuss what our God may want for us. Talk about
your family traditions and why they are important to your
family’s celebrations.
Activity: During the week, try to remember a particularly
poignant or meaningful event that happened to you as a
child during your family’s tradition and why it remains
meaningful. What traditions would you and your family
like to add or resurrect that would reflect your values as
a family?

ST. JOHN NEUMANN
WEEKLY CALENDAR
Stewardship Corner
When we share our gifts with others we really give back to God
rather than give away, because to “give away” we must first own
– and we truly own nothing. We came into this world with nothing
and will leave with nothing. All that we have is on loan to us from
God. That is why we call this “stewardship,” because we are only
caretakers for God and we will be held accountable for how we
care and share God’s property for His glory and the building of His
kingdom.
Stewardship is trusting God the Father to the extent that we
trust as Jesus trusts, and live as Jesus lives. This is a philosophy,
not a program. It is an understanding of the heart, not the head. The
term stewardship may seem to be a fairly new term for modern-day
American Catholics, however, it has been with us since the beginning
of time. The stewardship message needs to be frequent and continual.
Those who commit to a stewardship way of life, experience
a sense of increased ownership in their parish life through the
prayerful response of giving time and talent. This in turn leads to
a greater awareness of responsibility, resulting in a more generous
commitment of treasure. A person who is committed to a stewardship
way of life is likely to be more prayerful, more loving, and more
dedicated to serving others, therefore more Christ-like, thus living as
the image of likeness of God.

MERHANDISE BOOTH UPDATE:
2016 Festival
If you have taken a tag for a donation item, PLEASE return
ASAP. I am beginning to build baskets and a lot of pieces are
missing. I don’t want to purchase items if you have already done
so. My summer commitments are growing and I need to get the
baskets completed earlier than usual. Thank you. Questions: Call
Gail Ulanski (825-8558 or [email protected]).
Festival Booth Co-Chair Wanted:
Children’s Games
One of the most vital booths at our festival is the Children’s
Games Booth, a key piece to the fund raising side; it is even more
special as to the smiles it brings to the children and families that
come to the festival.
Angela and Adam Dengel have done an amazing job for
several years and we are looking for another family or two to work
with them in this area.
Responsibilities include assisting with the ordering of prizes,
set up, and staffing/manning the booths throughout the weekend.
This is an excellent opportunity for a younger family to get
involved and work with another experienced family to share the
load.
Please contact Festival Chair Brian Rawlings at (513) 2189105 or [email protected] with questions or to express
interest. Many hands make light work!
