The Thread Studio Newsletter
Number 118 May 2014
Hello Everyone - Welcome to May. Another month seems to have flown by – Ian and I had a little break in Broome where we researched our upcoming Broome Artistic Retreat for August 2015. We looked at different venues and will be making decisions soon – if
you would like to be on the list for first to know just emails me. We are planning an exciting experience with three different tutors and lots
of fun. There have also been loads of new goodies appearing at our house to keep Ian very busy getting them to the website as well as
all the other things he does. I have been preparing for my trip to NZ playing with lots of new ideas. I hope you all have a wonderful May.

We are working on Issue 5 for sometime
in June – don’t forget if you started with
Issue 1 for your subscription, it has now
run out and if you renew before 1st June
you will receive another of my free pdfs.
Remember you can start your subscription
at any time.
Magazines
Magazines which have arrived this
month – Modern Patchwork, Art Journaling, Stitch and Cloth Paper Scissors. We
don’t bring in heaps of extras and we are
always sorry when people are disappointed - it really does pay to preorder. To
see what we have in stock, just check the
magazines section of the catalogue. Special Note - we have
an extra box of Cloth Paper Scissors issue 51 so these are
now available at $5.00 including postage in Australia.
Fab Bits
Books
Zeelon
Kim Thittichai Reclaimed Textiles
Ruth Chandler Modern Hand Stitching
Both of these books have now arrived – in fact I have had to
reorder them.
After Wendy Cotteril’s article in threads.In-fusion, we had
many requests to stock this product once again, so we have
plenty in stock - an intro pack and each of the three weights.
Experimentation
Colour
Stencils
It has been a stencil fest this month.
Crafters Workshop - loads of new Stylish Stencils (and check
the Going Going section for some retired ones)
Balzar Bits and Rhonda’s Fragments
Stencil Girl - a few new ones
Artist Cellar - 12 new stencils.
Moonglow Sprays
Check out the May Moonglow Sprays - Lots ‘o blues for this
month’s feature set of sprays - with angelina and fusible film
blue extras. Find the link at the top of the Moonglow Products
page.
Stamps
Tim Holtz Letterpress Blocks.
Only a very few – I bought one for myself and had immediate
requests.
Fusible Film
At last we have all the colours back in stock.
Heat Distressable Tissue
Have you tried this wonderful fabric/paper? It is made from
polyester and behaves much like Tyvek in that when you heat
it, it bubbles up.
However, if you stretch it in a hoop and machine stitch it, when
you apply heat lots of ridges and holes will appear. It’s easy
to work on - just like stitching on a fabric and unlike paper, it
doesn’t tear or go hard as Tyvek does. You can colour it with
most paints, such as Jacquard Lumiere, Opulence Inks or the
Moonglow Sprays.
Fibres
Wool, Silk and Slushie
Two lovely new colour themes, St Ives and Barcelona, are
now all in slushies, wool and silk.
Exotic Yarns
Do have a look at our lovely new Snail Trim – this has been a
wonderful find and we have 14 different colourways for starters. Braid width is approxmately 1 cm, fourteen colour themes
and $6.60 / metre.
Barcelona in wool
St Ives in wool
Facebook
Monthly Explosions
Follow us on facebook. It is a busy place most days and there
is usually an inspirational photo to start your creative day. This
is where I announce new products and have spot specials. We
are still creeping up in numbers as new people find us. Our
facebook page is dedicated to textile art throughout the world.
Peep at the May Monthly Explosions. This little section is
proving to be very popular. Lots of you have said you missed
out on April’s ones. I am only doing a very limited number of
each.
