INFORMATION ROUTE OF THE SUN IN ECUADOR
General Description and location:
Just over an hour’s drive west of Guayaquil, and thence north along the coastline the tourist corridor popularized in recent
decades with the appropriate name of “La Ruta del Sol” also known as “Path is Spondylus “. Sea, sun, beaches picturesque
coastal towns, mostly fishermen, is what you will find along this route. Its warm waters allow to enjoy the tranquility of the
Pacific. Pristine beaches and tropical forests are intertwined with the history of pre-Columbian cultures. The whole area is also
conducive to the practice of diverse sports activities throughout the year.
2,790 kilometers of coastline is what gives the Ecuadorian coast; the third part thereof corresponds to beaches and the rest is
a combination of mangroves, estuaries, deltas and cliffs.
The Ruta del Sol comprises 748 kilometers and traveling from south to north, begins in Playas de Villamil, in the province
of Guayas, continues to Salinas, the largest resort in the Ecuadorian coast in the newly created province of Santa Elena and
continues to the north to the port city of Manta, in the province of Manabi.
In the main route, the Ruta del Sol through fishing villages, archaeological sites, protected areas, national parks, extensive
beaches and breathtaking cliffs all these elements combined with the natural warmth of its friendly people and the delight of
delicacies of local cuisine .
La Costa has an important road network, linking him north to south and across to the other regions and cities.

ATTRACTIONS
QUITO AND THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD
The “Mirador de el Panecillo”, a place renowned for its beauty where
you can admire a beautiful landscape of Colonial Quito and modern.

The “Independence Square” and around “La Cathedral church”, the

We will cross the Equator line by “Cayambe”, we went through
“Guachala” (former monument to the middle of the world). “Mira Lago”
(viewpoint of San Pablo lake) to photograph the beautiful Lake of San
Pablo and his admirable beauty. “Otavalo market” where craftsmen
exhibit their merchandise. “Cotacachi” well-known for its leather shops.
SALINAS
GUAYAQUIL CITY
The following attractions are available: visit to the Park”Simón
Bolívar”, “Malecón 2000”, the docks and the “Rotonda” (with
statues of Bolivar and San Martin). The Colonial district of “Las
Peñas”, where you can admire its architecture in wood and many
of its houses are art galleries. Panoramic view of Guayaquil and
the “Guayas River” from the strong Santa Ana.
Salinas is oldest beach, popular and developed in Ecuador.
Its extended beaches, excellent climate in the most part of
the year and the practice of many aquatic sports, in addition
its ample hotel’s infrastructure and the services, delicious
marine gastronomy, intense and enjoyable nightlife and many
attractions for the tourist became in an obligatory step on the
“Ruta del Sol”.

ATTRACTIONS
BALLENITA
It is located at 20 minutes at the north of Salinas, it is an ideal place to
be in harmony with the coast nature and leave away the crowed city, its
great beaches invites you to be in touch with the sea. It is important to
name in Ballenita the nautical museum Farallon Dillon that has a great
collection of marine place that have been recollected since 30 years ago,
among these we can admire a wet suit that was elaborated in 1900 and it
includes an air compressor.
If we continue to the north we can find with San Pablo, that is a small
fishing village with colorful boats, kinds of fishing, local handicrafts and
its great food.
Then we can find Ayangue, It is and beautiful and closed bay that looks
like a half-moon and it is a perfect place for swimming, snorkeling and
diving in the closer points. Also closer is located the awesome “Playa
Rosada”
MONTAÑITA
It is located at 55 Km at north of Salinas and near to the quiet
village Manglarito. This is a place chosen by the local and
foreign surfers, its highest waves can reach until 3 meters of
height is a great reason in order to do local and international surf
championships. Montañita has a plenty hotel’s infrastructure,
many bars and restaurants, also its enjoyable nightlife.This place
is really popular, especially for the younger travelers.
MANTA
MACHALILLA NATIONAL PARK
It is the most important in the Ecuadorian coast, includes La
Plata’s island, the Fraile’s beach and a plenty area that is covered
by tropical dry forest, that is considered the last reminder in its
class in America. It is a perfect place in order to see many spaces
of birds, variety of flora and fauna, unique in the area, do trekking,
ride horse and discover the closer rainforest, and a different and
equally interesting ecosystem. In the Machalilla National Park
also there are important archeological places such as Agua
Blanca with its excavations, ceramic and objects samples of precolombina cultures that inhabited the area centuries ago.
Manta is the second maritime port in Ecuador and it has been
developing as touristic place. The city us one of the most
inhabited in Ecuador, and it is the main center of fishing,
commerce and industry in the country. Its main beach is El
Murcielago, that is well attended, it has a scenic malecon and
variety of restaurants for the tourists. International cruise
with hundreds of passengers from all over the world arrive to
the downtown and large deep water port. The local cuisine
throughout the country and especially in the province of Manabi,
simply delicious and is closely linked with the fish and shellfish
in the most delicious preparations.There is an excellent hotel

OLÓN
Olon has a plenty beach and in the top of the cliff we can admire a little
church of Olon’s Virgin, it is special because it looks like a boat and with
a beautiful chapel that is opened in its both sides, which allows have an
awesome view of the beaches these are located at north of Manabi
The door of the province of Manabi is Ayampe, well-known by its closer
islet of “Los Ahorcados” that is an interesting place for diving.
In the Kilometer 97 is located Salango village, which main attractions
are a little but very interesting archeological museum of the coast that
has pieces of pre-colombinan cultures which inhabit the Ecuadorian
coast since many centuries ago and as well the island that has the same
name and it is located in front of the settlement. It is an excellent places
to birdwaching and diving.
A few minutes of Salango is located Puerto López, its shape is like a
beautiful circular bay with colorful fishing boats. His population is
well-known by its marine gastronomy that offer an exquisite delight for
the palate. Puerto Lopez is also the main starting port, is located at 30
kilometers from the coast and where we can find some animals species
similar to the Galápagos, such as blue foot boobies, frigates, albatross,
sea lions. The Island offers excellent options for trekkingin the nature
also aquatic activities like swimming and excellent quality of diving.
Between Puerto López and Puerto Cayo there is the famous beach
named Los Frailes. It is considered the most beautiful on the Ecuadorian
coast and it is part of Machalilla National Park, and for that reason in
order to enter it is necessary to register and pay the entrance fee.
The view is exceptional, the quality of sand and swimming are
wonderful, take the sun, snorkel and diving are unique experience. From
a viewpoint that is closer, in the top of the cliff, you can appreciate the
incomparable beauty of the zone. Remember to take along bottled water
and the things that you require because it is a protected area and for
that reason it does not have infrastructure, restaurant and any kind of
services.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHING:
All the Ecuadorian coast offers a pleasant average temperature of 26 ° C, which makes it ideal to enjoy at any time
of year. The warmest season is from December to April time that can be presented strong but generally short
tropical showers, sunny and humid days and temperatures above 35 ° C. The “cool” season runs from June to

The characteristics of the region allow surfing, diving, sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, fishing, trekking and a host
of activities and sports for thrill seekers and adventure. The best places for surfing are Montañita and Beaches; for
sailing, Salinas and Manta; Crucita for paragliding and scuba diving, Isla de la Plata, Ayangue, Los Ahorcados and
Beaches.
The so-called “blue Ecuadorian coast,” offer visitors beautiful spas, with magnificent beaches of clear sand and
sunshine almost all year, which let you enjoy a pleasant climate and water sports as varied.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS AND SAFETY
We recommend travel during the day and not at night.
If you play watersports sure the condition of the equipment and do it with certified guides who know the area.
In large populations will find health centers that can meet an emergency, however if you take any medication in
particular is better provisioned before traveling.
Other recommendations for visitors to the Ecuadorian coast are drinking bottled water; use insect repellent

avoid lonely places, walking alone on the beach and less at night or camping on the beach.
Do not forget your binoculars, it is recommended to wear light clothing because the temperature fluctuates between
24-27 degrees Celsius.
