Chapel Celebration at Forcht-Wade
On Thursday, April 28,2011, area
leaders, prison staff, inmates, and
volunteers gathered to dedicate the
“ N ew Life ” Chapel to the glory of
God. Troy Terrell, LPCF board member and pastor of the Church at
Mansfield gave a passionate sermon
about staying focused on the one
who feeds us – Jesus Christ. Bishop Michael Duca, Catholic Diocese of
Shreveport, presented a plaque and communion table in memory of Father
Pusch who served as Chaplain for ten years until his death last year. Others participating in the dedication were, Matt Endris, Fairview Baptist
Church and Andre Elias of Morning Star Baptist Church. This chapel is the
thirteenth chapel built by the Louisiana Prison Chapel Foundation since
2001.
Avoyelles Expansion Dedicated
Chaplain Draper at Avoyelles Correctional Center recalls a conversation he
had with Sara Simmonds, former LPCF
board member, on one of her many visits to Grace Chapel. Ms. Simmonds
asked, “ So how are things going? Are
you having any problems?” Chaplain

replies, “ Truthfully, we have a problem. We don ’ t have enough
space for all the offenders who want to attend church.” Sara gasped,
“ I s that all! That ’ s a wonderful problem. I thought you were going to
say that the roof was falling in or something. Why don’ t we go and
talk to Warden Cooper and see what we can do about it. ” For those
who are blessed to know Sara Simmonds, knows that grass does not
grow underneath her feet. The expansion to the Grace Chapel at
Avoyelles Correctional Center was dedicated on July 29, 2011. The
first expansion project for LPCF.

Building Hope
Louisiana State Police Barracks in Zachary and Allen
Correctional Center in Kinder are the last two prisons without a
chapel. The vision of having a place of worship in correctional
facilities within the Department of Public Safety and Corrections
is almost complete! We need your help.
…. and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom.
