Brief bios of Delmarva’s Black TV Newscasters

Paul Butler
Delmarva
native
Paul Butler returned to
WBOC/FOX 21 after
taking three years off to
spend time with his
teenage children before
they ventured off to college. This time Paul
returns to his roots in
TV news, as co-anchor
of the evening news
broadcasts on WBOC
and FOX 21. Butler was
previously the sports
director at the station.
Before returning to WBOC
in July of 2005, he spent two
years as a sports anchor/
reporter at WPMI in Mobile, AL.,
two years as sports director at
KTBS 3 in Shreveport, LA, and
then six years in the heart of
NASCAR and ACC Country at
FOX 18, WCCB in Charlotte,
North Carolina.
Paul also did a threeseason stint as a sideline reporter for the NFL on FOX. During
that time "down South," he conducted thousands of interviews,
covering everything from NFL,
NBA, NHL and NCAA championships.
Right out of high school (a
Wicomico High School alum),
Paul started a 12-year radio
career including stops at WKYSWashington, D.C., WTEM Washington, OC-104 - Ocean
City, MD, and WJDY-Salisbury,
MD, serving mainly as a radio
personality and sports play-byplay announcer.
Paul attended the University of Maryland, College Park,
Mary Washington U., and finally
completed his bachelor's degree
in Communications at Salisbury
U. (Class of '85).

Terrence joined
the WMDT news team
in June 2008. In the
more than 2 years
since he has been at
WMDT, he has worn
many hats, including
reporter and producer.
Before coming to Delmarva, he worked as
an intern at two stations in Philadelphia
where he went to
college, at Temple
University. A Maryland native,
Terrence grew up in Calvert
County.
Alyana Gomez
Marshall
Gomez
Gomez is the noon anchor
and weekday reporter at WMDT/
CW. She joined the news team
in June of 2010 as a reporter
and was promoted to noon anchor and weekday reporter last
year.
Alyana graduated from
Salisbury University with a BA
Degree in Journalism and began
her career in journalism as an
intern writing news for The Daily
Times in Salisbury.

Jarred is a Weekday Reporter and Weekend Producer
at WMDT/CW. He joined the
WMDT news team in September
of 2012. Prior to that, he spent
two years in New York City
where he was an NBC Universal
Page and worked for Dateline
NBC. He also worked five-years
as an intern with C-SPAN
A native of Prince Georges
County, Maryland, Jarred graduated from Morehouse College in
Atlanta, GA where he earned a
bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in
Marketing and a Spanish minor.

Ryan Marshall
Ryan joined WBOC in October
2011 as the Weekend Sports Anchor. He comes to the station from
WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. For
the last five years, he was the voice
of Morgan State U. football as their
Public Address Announcer. From
September 2010 to October 2011,
Ryan was also Football and Basketball Public Address Announcer for
Baltimore City Public Schools Athletics, covering many of their largest
games. He also did college football
play-by-play commentary & basketball color commentary work on WEAA 88.9 FM in Baltimore, from March
2009 to October 2011.
During that same time, Ryan
was a freelance videojournalist. He
has covered and filmed some of the
biggest names in news and sports.
He also gained experience as a
Sports and I-Team Intern at WBAL
-TV (Baltimore) from May to August
2008. He was also a Sports Intern at
WBFF-TV (Baltimore) from September 2008 to February 2009.
Ryan graduated from Morgan
State University in 2009, with a Communications degree. He is a member
of the National Association of Black
Journalists and the Association of
Black Media Workers. He was
born in Washington, DC, but
raised in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Cleo Greene
Cleo joined the WBOC/Fox
21 news team as a videojournalist in
November 2011. She came the station from South Carolina. There she
worked as a multimedia journalist at
WRDW CBS News12 in North Augusta, SC.
Cleo's family is from the West
Indies. She went to St. Croix, US
Virgin Islands and worked as a general assignment reporter for WTJX
PBS Channel 12. There she covered
hard hitting feature stories from
homelessness in paradise, territorial
gang awareness to candid interviews
with the US Virgin Islands Governor.

Delaware NAACP youth receive national honors
The Delaware NAACP Youth and College Division was presented with the Chairman’s Award during the 103rd NAACP National Convention held in Houston, Texas. The young activists have worked on
several projects ranging from health and environmental justice to education and membership building.

Cleo got her first job in television at age 16 as a cooking show
host for LDTV in her hometown of
Mount Laurel, NJ. She graduated
from Rowan U. in 2008, where she
earned a BA Degree in Broadcast
Journalism and Radio, Television
and Film. Her most memorable college days stem from hosting and
producing her campus talk show.
Cleo believes the best experience comes from interning. She was
an investigative unit intern for WCAU
NBC 10 in Philadelphia. She learned
the ins and outs of the entertainment
and fashion industry at Cosmogirl
Magazine in Manhattan. Cleo then
found herself back in the newsroom
as an apprentice reporter for WGMT
NBC 40 in Linwood, New Jersey.
