From my family to your family, we wish you a
Merry Christmas!
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m looking
forward to having my family home to help us celebrate
Christmas. So, here are a couple of recipes to serve as appetizers for the family and for those friends dropping in.
And please say a prayer for all our servicemen here and
overseas. And be sure to thank them if and when you see
a soldier for they are they reason we are free and able to
celebrate Christmas...
Until next year, stay warm and have a wonderful
Christmas.

When An Angel Knocks On
Your Door...You Open It!
by Ginger Lane
If you want to talk about
all the terrible things going on
in the world today, if you want
to talk about how this country
no longer has patriotism, if you
to talk about how no one cares
about their neighbors anymore,
and if you want to talk about how
the next generation is going to
destroy the world, or if you want
to talk about people not believing
in God, I just have one thing to
say. You’ll have to take to someone other than myself!
On Christmas morning, 2007, an Angel came to
visit my home. I won’t go into all the details, but it was a
beautiful baby girl, and her name was really Angel. Her
young Mom and Dad had fallen on hard times, and they
were looking for food and shelter for their child. They
were in Greenville looking for CPS to give the daughter
they loved to the agency because they had no food, no
gas, and no home. They had been turned away by the
family they had come to visit for the holidays, and with
no other options, they had given up hope and were doing
what they thought best for their child.
On their way to find the police department in
Greenville, they stopped at the only place that seemed to
be open. The person they spoke with tried to find help
for them. They had a Texas Twister, and dialed my number thinking we could put them in touch with someone
who could help with food and shelter.
I began to call different agencies, but also found
no one to answer on Christmas. Then, my son, Jesse,
made a suggestion. We had plenty of room, why didn’t
we take them in? I wanted to jump at the suggestion and
say “Sure!”, but the thought of taking in strangers was
a bit scary to me. We talked further. We talked about
it being Christmas, and we didn’t have a whole lot, but
definitely enough.
We called the business back and gave directions
for the family to make their way to our home. The first
person gave them enough gas to fill their tank.
When they arrived, I met the sweetest young
couple, and their baby, Angel!
Misty, my office manager, lived pretty close and she was
my first call. She got on the phone, and things really
started happening. We found at the mere mention of the
Page 5
family needing help, people went into action. Complete
strangers to the young family began gathering money,
food, and clothing. It was a miracle in the works!
In less than 2 days, they had long term housing, a
couple of job offers, and several new friends! In less than
2 days from the time they thought they were going to lose
their baby, that they were homeless, and without hope,
they were on track for better days!
I have always been known as overly optimistic.
My cup isn’t half full; it’s overflowing....even when it’s
not. And, at times, that optimism has gotten me in a bit
of a jam. I like looking at the good side of things. I have
been warned about not seeing the negative, but now I am
convinced ......The good outweighs the bad! The guys in
the white hat always win! Prayer works!
And, one thing for sure! When an Angel knocks
at your door, you open it!
(This is our traditional annual Christmas story.
It’s a true story and one of the best blessings I’ve ever
had. Having read this story, please keep your safety in
mind, and your hearts and pocketbooks open. Let’s make
this the best Christmas ever! Those who are down and
full of despair may be there by their own doing. It doesn’t
matter and it is not for us to judge.
John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up
himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among
you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Give generously to others, now and throughout the year.
It’s a blessing for you, more so than the person you give
to.)

HEY, OLDER CROWD!
A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor’s office.
“Is it true,” she wanted to know, “that the
medication you prescribed has to be taken for the
rest of my life?”
“Yes, I’m afraid so,” the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence before the
senior lady replied, “I’m wondering, then, just how
serious is my condition because this prescription is
marked
‘NO REFILLS’.”
*****************************************
An older gentleman was on the operating
table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son,
a renowned surgeon, perform the operation. As he
was about to get the anesthesia, he asked to speak to
his son.
“Yes, Dad, what is it?”
“Don’t be nervous, son; do your best, and
just remember, if it doesn’t go well, if something
happens to me, your mother is going to come and
live with you and your wife....”
*****************************************
The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
*****************************************
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not
me! I want people to know why I look this way. I’ve
traveled a long way and some of the roads weren’t
paved.
*****************************************
When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back
to youth, think of Algebra.
*****************************************
You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
*****************************************
One of the many things no one tells you about aging
is that it is such a nice change from being young.
*****************************************
Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
*****************************************
First you forget names, then you forget faces. Then
you forget to pull up your zipper...it’s worse when
you forget to pull it down.

Rudolph,
the Red Nosed Reindeer
It seems like Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer
has been around as long as Santa Claus. However, it is a
20th century creation.
In 1939, Montgomery Ward Co asked one of
their copywriters to come up with an idea for their annual Christmas booklet they gave away each year to their
customers.
Robert May came up with the promotional gimmick. It caught on quickly and in 1939 Montgomery
Ward Co. distributed 2.4 million copies. That number
had increased to 6 million total through 1946.
Because May was an employee of Montgomery
Ward Co, the story and Red Nosed character both belonged to them. But, May was persistent and in January
1947, they handed the copyright over to May.
Rudolph’s fame really peaked when May’s
brother in law, songwriter Johnny Marks, wrote the lyrics
to “Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer” which was then
recorded by Gene Autry in 1949. (It was first recorded
in the same month and the same year by Harry Brannon.)
Two million copies were sold and it went on to becoming one of the best selling songs of all time. (information

I guess it’s been about 25 years ago that I
received a phone call from a much ‘older woman’.
She had dialed the wrong number and was trying
to assure me that she had gotten it out of the phone
book. After a few confusing moments, she decided
I was really not the person she was trying to call.
She then said, “These phone books are using lighter
print all the time!”
I realized she just couldn’t see the numbers
and asked her who she was trying to call. I told her
my phone book was a darker ink, and I’d be glad to
look up the number for her. I smiled to myself and
thought of how she had aged and not the ink getting
lighter.
This story came back this week and hit me
like a ton of bricks.
I was trying to open a bottle of soft drink.
“Good grief!” I thought. “They must have used
some super machine to tighten the cap!”

There was a perfect man who met a perfect woman. After a perfect
courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Their life together was, of course, perfect.
One snowy, stormy Eve, this perfect couple was driving down a country
road. The snow was falling heavily, yet somehow the perfect couple caught a
glimpse of someone in distress along the roadside. Being the perfect couple that
they were, they stopped to help.
There on the roadside stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys in
his outstretched arms. His sleigh was a wreck and tangled among the trees. Not
wanting to disappoint any children on the eve of Christmas, the perfect couple
loaded Santa and his toys into their vehicle. Soon, they were driving from house

to house, delivering all of Santa’s toys to the neighborhood children.
As luck would have it, the driving conditions worsened, and the perfect
couple and Santa Claus had an accident. Tragically, only one them survived the
accident.
Who was the survivor?
The perfect woman. Everyone knows there is no Santa Claus and no
such thing as a perfect man!
Typical Male Response?
Well then, since there is no perfect man and no Santa Claus, obviously
the perfect woman must have been driving. This would explain the car accident!

BULLYING
A teacher in New York was teaching her class
about bullying and gave them the following
exercise to perform. She had the children
take a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stamp on it and really mess it up but
do not rip it. Then she had them unfold the
paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred
and dirty is was. She then told them to tell it
they’re sorry. Now even though they said it they were sorry and tried to fix the
paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will
never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens
when a child bullies another child, they may say they’re sorry but the scars are
there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the
message hit home.

Traditions
By Gina Bain
Christmas is a very special time of year. It is
a time for lots of shopping, spending time with others and making memories. It is fun to start traditions
that will carry on for a lifetime. I would like to share
with you some ideas that you might want to share
with your children and family.
A few of the traditions, around the world,
that I think would be fun to share are;
In Brazil, during the evening of Christmas
Day, they have fireworks.
In Norway, it is a tradition to “circle the
December, 2011
Christmas tree”. All the family forms a circle around
the tree and hold hands. Then, they begin walking
around the tree while singing Christmas carols.
In the Netherlands, on December 6th, Sinterklaas, (Santa) arrives and rides a white horse down
the streets. The children put their shoes outside and
fill them with hay and sugar for the horse. During
the night, St. Nicholas puts sweets in the children’s
shoes if they have been good and twigs if they have
been bad.
In many homes in Argentina, people decorate their evergreen trees with cotton so that it will
appear that snow has fallen on them. Also, they traditionally eat pig or roasted peacock!
In Italy, a nativity scene is the focus at
Christmas time rather than the Christmas tree, in
most of the homes. The Christ child is not added to
the scene until Christmas Eve. The traditional meal
is Capitone, female eel. It is often fixed many ways
including baked, roasted or even fried.
I like to have a baking day with my children.
We make homemade treats to share with their teachers and family. We usually make cookies, fudge,
banana nut bread, candy and sometimes homemade
ornaments. We also enjoy putting together gingerbread houses.
One tradition, I enjoy, is picking out a special ornament, for each of my children each year.
I put their name and year on it and when they are
grown and have their own home they will have
memories to place on their own tree.
I have a friend who lost a child and every
year she buys an angel ornament and places it on
her tree in remembrance of him.
Page 23
Stop, take some time this year with your
children, family and friends. Memories are something we should never take advantage of and time
goes by so quickly.
Last, AND MOST IMPORTANT, traditions
aside, remember the true reason of Christmas. We
should all stop and remember that this holiday is set
aside to remember Jesus’ birth. The Son of God.
He was put here on Earth to die so that we may be
forgiven of our sins. To me, telling this story should
be our most important tradition of all.
Hope you and your family have a safe and
joyous holiday!!!

Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart
when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy, “Sorry about that. I’m
looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going”
The young guy says, “That’s OK, it’s a coincidence. I’m looking for my
wife, too....I can’t find her and I’m getting a little desperate.”
The old guy says, “Well, maybe I can help you find her....what does she
look like?”
The young guy says, “Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall, with red hair, blue
eyes, is buxom...wearing no bra, long legs, and is wearing short shorts. What
does your wife look like?”
To which the old guy says, “Doesn’t matter, -----Let’s look for yours! “

REPLACEMENT WINDOWS
Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive doublepane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole
year ago and I still hadn’t paid for them.
Hellloooo ............ just because I’m blonde doesn’t mean that I am automatically
stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year,
that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves!
Hellooooo? It’s been a year! I told him.
There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up.
He never called back. I bet he felt like an idiot.

MORE CHRISTMAS TRIVIA
Holly berries are poisonous!
Christmas pudding should be stirred from east to west!
Every person will get elbowed or pushed at least three
times when Christmas shopping!
In Britain, the Holy Days and Fasting Days Act of 1551,
which has not yet been repealed, states that every citizen must attend a Christian church service on Christmas
Day, and must not use any kind of vehicle to get to the
service!
Mistletoe myth states should a woman appearing under
the mistletoe not receive a kiss, she will not marry the
following year!
Did you know that based on polls and statistics 45% of
the world population celebrates Christmas!
The largest Christmas candle ornament was 3.9 meters
(12.75 feet) tall and 3.1 meters (10.15 feet) wide!

Faith is a Lifestyle
By Pastors Pastor Dean & Ruth Remmers
972-834-0015 Day or Night 903-560-1988
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past; Only what’s
done for Christ will last.”
This was a line from a poem that hung on my
grandmother’s wall. I read it every time I went to see her,
and it eventually became a part of me.
You know that you are not the house that you
live in any more than a cow is the barn it lives in. You
are created in God’s image and like Him, you are a spirit
being. Your body is something you must have to live
here on this earth—it’s an earth suit. When a Christian
leaves this world to pass over into Heaven, he throws off
his body like an old coat that is no longer needed. His
body will decay and return to dust, but his spirit lives on
eternally.
Consider this: If you were given an inheritance
of $100 and you went to the store and spent $80 of it,
your inheritance money would be all but gone. However,
if someone left you $100 million ($100,000,000) and you
spent $80, you’ve spent practically nothing.
You are an eternal being. Spending 80, 90, or
even 100 years on this earth is nothing next to eternity.
Don’t miss Heaven! It’s what you were born to enjoy.
Of all of our life experiences that you have read
about in the Texas Twister, nothing is as important as us
sharing with you how to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. It’s as simple as praying this from
your heart:
“Father, thank You for sending Your Son to die
on the cross for me. I believe Jesus is the Son of God and
that You have raised Him from the dead. Jesus, I ask You
to forgive me of all my sins and to live inside me. Thank
You for forgiving me and helping me to live for You each
and every day. Now I can boldly say that I AM SAVED!”
And if you need healing in your body, there are many
verses from God’s Word for you to stand on. (Faith is
taking God’s Word, putting it in your mouth, and believing that it is true in your life—and if you believe something, you will act on it!)
Texas Twister
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body
on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto
righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” –I Peter
2:24, King James
“Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses,
weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and
pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered
Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with
leprosy]. But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was
upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we
are healed and made whole.” -Isaiah 53:4-5, Amplified
We want to pray for your healing right now as if we were
standing in front of you. Put your faith with ours as we
believe the words that God has spoken in His Holy scriptures.
“Father, we take hold of Your Word today. It
is ours. We command healing to come to our friend who
is standing in agreement with us. Your Word permeates
his/her spirit, soul (mind – will – emotions), and body.
The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead quickens
healing to our friend, and by the stripes that were laid on
Jesus’ back, he/she is healed!”
Now, let’s talk a moment about your prosper-
ity. Yes, God wants you to be provided for in abundance
so that you can have extra to bless others (II Corinthians
9).
Jesus became poor so that you could become rich
(II Corinthians 8:9). When you tithe and give offerings,
God rebukes the devourer for your sake and opens His
windows of provision and blessing so that you can live in
abundance (Malachi 3:10-11; John 10:10b)!
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may-
est prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
-III John 1:2
God loves you so much that He would have died
for you—but He loved you even more by sending His Son
to die in your place. Jesus has already provided for your
salvation, your healing, your prosperity, and all you will
ever need. You couldn’t receive a greater Christmas gift
than accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and your Savior
today.

The Brookshire’s Food Store, located at 8934
Highway 34 South in Quinlan has been named Business
of the Month for December by the Lake Tawakoni Regional chamber of Commerce.
“We greatly appreciate being named for this
honor,” said Steve Gilpin, Brookshire’s store director.
“Brookshire’s is well known for giving outstanding customer service. We strive to always offer Quinlan and area
shoppers with a pleasant shopping atmosphere in a clean,
well-stocked store.”
The Brookshire’s store has been serving the
needs of the Quinlan community since opening in 2001.
In addition to providing an outstanding variety of grocery,
produce, frozen foods and market items, the Quinlan store
offers several specialty departments, including a bakery
and deli. “Whether you need a birthday cake or party tray,
we can fill the order to make any gathering a success,”
Gilpin said.
The store also provides the convenience of an
in-store pharmacy with drive-through window to make
prescription pickups quick and easy, and an on-premise
fuel center makes the store the complete one-stop shopping location in Quinlan.
Gilpin has been with the Tyler-based grocery
chain the past 30 years. He began his career as a stocker
in Paris and worked his way up as a perishable manager,
assistant store manager and store director in Texas stores
in Mt. Pleasant, Plano, Rowlett, The Colony, Garland and
Terrell. He also served the company in Ruston, La.
He and his wife, Karran, live in Rockwall, where
they attend Lakeshore Church. Gilpin was formerly a
member of the Terrell Kiwanis Club and is now a member
of the Lions Club of Quinlan.
I am honored to be named the Business of the
Month by the Chamber of Commerce. I have been nail
tech for 16 years and in the Quinlan area for 9 years now.
I enjoy the creative aspect of my work. I love seeing the

smiles on the faces of the people as they leave with a refreshed feeling and lovely art on their nails. I am very
pleased to say that many of my customers have become
like family to me. I pray that everyone enjoys time with
their family and loved ones this holiday season. Thank
you again for this honor.
