hang fabrics come with enclosed sewn-in weights with no chain as standard. Optional slide-in
pocket weights with chain are available upon request. Inserted fabrics come with our ivory clear
edge groover as standard. If requested a white clear edge groover is available at no additional
charge. Color variations can occur due to different dye lot runs. If possible please order all the verticals for a room at the same time. On free hang fabric vanes the fabric may stretch slightly over
time. When mounting over a sliding glass door allow at least a 3/4” clearance between the bottom
of the vane and the floor. For inserted fabric vanes slight deflection can occur and should be
expected when PVC groovers are exposed to strong direct sunlight. On long inserted vanes rough
handling or leaving the window open and allowing the vanes to blow in the wind may cause the
fabric to slip out of the groover.

at the same time. On free hang fabric vanes the fabric may stretch slightly over
time. When mounting over a sliding glass door allow at least a 3/4” clearance
between the bottom of the vane and the floor. For inserted fabric vanes slight
deflection can occur and should be expected when PVC groovers are exposed to
strong direct sunlight. On long inserted vanes rough handling or leaving the window
open and allowing the vanes to blow in the wind may cause the fabric to slip out of
the groover.

Any Vertical may be ordered for cut-out installations ie., when an air conditioner, heating register or
other object interferes with the louvers. Be sure to
provide exact width length and cut-out measurements on the order to ensure proper fit.

Headrails may be ordered for a sloping window. The
steepest slope possible is 55 degrees. The blind must
be a reverse stack with the stacking at the high side.
To ensure proper fit please provide measurements of
all four sides. Maximum recommended: 144” wide x
120” high. Louvers are ordered to longest length and
are cut on the job by the installer. For FH fabric louvers have your installer mark each one at the desire
length and return them to us for hemming.

To increase privacy and room darkening fabric louvers can be inserted into Channel Groovers. The

Retail and Consumer Product Expectations

very interesting statistics. Nearly one-third of our customers experience virtually no problems that require Skandia’s assistance. This
fact so intrigued us that we did a little investigating. What turned up was not totally unexpected. These satisfied customers had one
thing in common. The customers were informed during the sale process about the features and benefits of the product and about the
limitations. In other words, the salesperson did not oversell the product. Our goal is to help you achieve greater profits by informing
you, your sales personnel and, consequently, the consumer of the performance expectations for each of our products. This eliminates

•Will my vertical louvers match the sample in the
book?
Most of the louver styles today have a textured surface with varying color depth and intensity. The extrusion
process is affected not only by temperature and humidity
but also by the speed and pressure at which the vinyl material is run through the extruding equipment. From run to
run color and surface texture will differ slightly. The same is
true for woven and non-woven fabric louvers.
•How does fabric that is cut off-grain affect the
“hang” of a fabric vertical louver?
Vertical blind fabric is woven at the mill in wide
pieces of material and is then slit down or cut into the
3 1/2” louver widths. How well the cutting or slitting
process is done determines the amount of twist that is present in the louver. Nothing can conceal a poorly cut vertical
louver. Vertical louvers

hang poorly. Whether
simple or elaborate in
design the fabric shows
whether it has been cut on
the exact grain. “Grain” is
the direction of yarns in a fabric. The lengthwise grain
refers to yarns running the length of the fabric piece. These
yarns are parallel to the selvage (or finished) edges of the
fabric. The crosswise
grain refers to yarn running across the width
of the fabric piece from
selvage to selvage.

for knits are “wales” for
lengthwise direction
and “courses” for the
crosswise direction.

• Will my vertical louvers hang perfectly straight?
Vertical PVC louvers have a wide surface area
(3 1/2”) and unlike horizontal products are only supported
at the very top. When one portion of the louver is heated
by the sun and the other portion remains in the shade the
laws of physics take over. The louver bows slightly at the
point where the two portions intersect.
A plant casting a shadow on part of the window
will create the same effect. Another situation where deflection may occur is if the window becomes very warm while
the interior of the room remains cool. The two surfaces of
the louver (front and back) are subjected to a significant
temperature variation.
All PVC louvers have a memory and will return to
a nearly straight vertical position once the temperature
variances in temperature are equalized. However a slight
deflection may remain. We list what is considered acceptable deflection in the specification section for vertical
PVC. Fabric louvers inserted into PVC groovers will have
the same tendencies. Some deflection in PVC will occur
and is entirely normal.
• What is Mottle?
Mottle also referred to as blotches is a term used to
describe a material’s inconsistent appearance in color or
texture. Any light-filtering fabric held up to a light source
will have some mottling. Cellular and pleated shades freehang vertical fabrics and Treanna fabrics have a certain
degree of mottling. These fabrics look uniform or solid
when laid on a surface that
allows no light to go
through the fabric. Some
sections of the fabric will
be darker (lets less light in)
while others will be lighter
(more
light
comes
through). The pattern is
not regular so one shade’s
light and dark areas will
not be the same from one
shade to the next. This randomness is characteristic and is

part of the beauty and warmth that fabric provides. If you
find this objectionable you may want to select a totally
opaque window covering such as a wood blind or PVC vertical.
• Will the new vertical blinds match in color and
texture to the ones you installed for me last month?
When our suppliers paint dye or extrude the
materials we use to fabricate our products there are slight
coloration changes from each run. For example when our
wood finisher paints slats in our color pure white the final
color is affected by both temperature and humidity. If one
run is produced when the temperature is 78º and the
humidity is 60% and the next run is produced when the
temperature is 82º and the humidity is 78%, the differences in temperature and humidity will cause each run of
pure white slats to vary slightly in color.
• Will my window covering discolor or fade?
Discoloration is usually defined as a color that
changes negatively and is generally used to describe a loss in
a colors intensity or the yellowing of the color. Discoloration
or fading can be caused by many factors including but not
limited to the temperature and humidity of the home, chemical cleaning agents, long-term sun exposure, cigarette or cigar
smoke, general cleanliness of the home, and the age of the
product. Even though we use the finest materials available
including the latest UV (ultraviolet) resistant finishes a reasonable amount of discoloration over time is to be expected.
The sun’s rays are very damaging to vinyl and fabric materials. Over time you can expect the side of the product that
faces the sun to become slightly faded and a yellow cast or
tint may become apparent.
• What is considered an acceptable tolerance for color or
texture match?
The commercial tolerance for an acceptable color or
texture match is a 2-foot separation. If there is no discernible
difference between two colors or textures when placed two
feet apart the difference is considered acceptable. The many
factors that influence color and texture make it impossible to
paint dye or extrude materials that match perfectly from run
to run. There will always be slight differences. However our
experience has shown that these differences are not significant and can only be seen if the materials are placed next to
each other. Holding the materials 2 feet apart you will not be
able to see a discernible difference. This is the standard to
which we hold our vendors. It should not be an issue as long
as your customer orders all the window coverings for a single
room at the same time.
• If wood slats can have bow camber or twist what problems might one encounter when using fabric vertical window coverings?
Like wood blinds fabric can also have bow camber
and twist. When referring to fabric it is sometimes called bias.
All woven fabrics have bias regardless of fiber content. “Bias”
can be seen in 3 different forms.
Front to back (twist). A spiral distortion along the
length of a piece of fabric. How the fabric is slit glued or
woven at the mills is the cause of all fabric bias twist.
Top to bottom (vertical) bow is a curvature in the
longitudinal direction causing the fabric to move away from a
flat plane. Print patterns and stitching and glue lines make up
the majority of vertical (bow) bias problems.
Side to side (horizontal) camber is a curvature of the
horizontal direction causing fabric to move away from a flat
plane. Print patterns and stitching and glue lines make up
the majority of horizontal
(camber) bias problems.

standards used in determining
the bias you may experience
under each product’s specifications. It is important to make
your customer aware that these
bias issues are an inherent part

variations get past inspections?
Surface imperfections and color and texture variations get through the production line because we do not
check every slat or louver. Slats and louvers are cut in
large stacks and then punched. As they are being
punched they are flipped over one after the other. This
process goes very quickly. On long slats and louvers we
have less than one second to scan the surface of the slats
for imperfections such as pin holes chips or for variations
in either color or texture. There is a certain amount we
are unable to catch. We do promptly send replacement
slats or louvers when this occurs. We continue to look for
better ways to screen these types of material failures.
