This year marks the 10th anniversary of an independent Cabaret Fringe
Festival, and lovers of cabaret in all its genres are in for a special treat: the
Opening Night Gala will be hosted by the stars of the famous Berlin
MAY
Cabaret, Adelaide’s own underground cabaret cult sensation.
Inspired by the success of the original ‘Berlin Cabaret’ show,
the first Cabaret Fringe Festival was held in 2003 at the
Weimar Room on Hindley St. This year, we are paying
homage to both the creators and the venue of its birth at the
CabFringe launch.

A Postmodern Striptease, a one-woman cabaret show
written by Irene Nicola, asks the question ‘what is it to be
a performer?’ in a world where the self is deconstructed,
reinvented and marketed to suit the individual’s needs above
the identity that lies beneath that constructed, polished
veneer. It further examines the premise: once all masks are
off, are we still performing? If not, can we accept and “own”
our vulnerability with others? And can we come back from
this, unscathed?
The answers to these and many more
questions about the “self” lie at the heart of JUN
