UPR recognises Myanmar’s
human rights efforts
THE 23rd Session of the
Universal Periodic Review,
conducted by the Human Rights
Council, took place in Geneva,
Switzerland, on 6 November.
Representatives of attending nations proposed 281 suggestions
to address human rights issues
in Myanmar.
Attorney General of the
Union Dr Tun Shin said his
country agreed with 124 points,
denied 69 and reconsidered 88.
He went on to say that denials
had to be made because the
suggestions did not take into
account the country’s ongoing
contributions to the promotion
and protection of human rights.
Local and foreign observers were allowed access to the 8
November election, the attorney
general said, adding that this re-

country placed on human rights
issues. He urged the international community to give constructive support to the country’s
democratic reforms.
In a sideline meeting, the
chair of the 23rd Session of the
UPR met with Dr Tun Shin and
praised the Myanmar government’s commitment to reforms
