Key Notes From The Principal Dear Franklin Families,
PARCC schedule - help your child be ready
The PARCC Test, an assessment for all students in Illinois, will be administered in District 64 from April 1122.
The best preparation for the PARCC has been the quality instruction our teachers have provided this school
year. However, there are things you can also do to promote your child’s success:
•
•
•
•
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
Provide your child with words of encouragement. While we don’t want our students to feel anxious
about any assessment, we do want them to do their best.
Please send ear buds/headphones to school by Wednesday, April 6th. We will be using these for the
English Language Arts test and Math test. These items will be kept at school and returned at the end of
testing.
The PARCC is an online assessment and students will be using their Chromebooks to complete these
tests. Please make sure your child brings his or her Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.
Below is Franklin School’s Schedule for test administration:
Monday April 11: Math #1
Tuesday, April 12: Math #2
Wednesday, April 13: Math #3
Thursday, April 14: Math #4
Friday, April 15 Reading / Language Arts #1
Monday, April 18: Reading Language Arts #2
Tuesday, April 19 Reading/ Language Arts #3
:
:
If you would like to learn more about the PARCC tests, English Language Arts sample tests, Math sample tests,
and additional resources are available for your convenience.
Thank you for your support in helping your child be prepared for upcoming testing.

April is Healthy Living Month
For more than a decade, School District 64 has helped lead the effort in designating the month of
April as "Healthy Living Month" in Park Ridge. In April, elementary school students will be able to
pledge each week in making a personal effort to incorporate healthy habits in their lives (see attached
pledge card sheet). A different pledge card will be used for each weekly theme: Health and Nutrition
Week (April 4-8); Neat to Use Your Feet Week (April 11-15); Go Green! Week (April 18-22); and
Screen-Free Week (April 25-29). Students who turn in completed pledge cards will have those cards
entered into a raffle for some neat Healthy Living Month prizes. Thanks to our PTO volunteers for
facilitating this! Finally, the entire community comes together in April to offer additional events that
support each weekly theme. The attached community flyer provides more details about those events.
Staying Connected and Well Informed About our Community
Stay Connected with Community Information and Events through the District 64 web page. We
encourage you to check out these events and updates on a regular basis. They can be found on the
attached link or you can go to the Parents tab on the Navigation bar across the top of the Franklin
School webpage.
On a personal note…
Late last week you received the announcement from Dr. Heinz of my upcoming departure from
Franklin at the close of this school year. I appreciate all of the messages and words of support from
parents and staff regarding what we have accomplished here at Franklin over the past eleven years. I
am excited about my future endeavors and what lies ahead. Dr. Heinz will be communicating
further regarding plans to find the next principal this spring.
