Lincoln Highway Days 2014 is behind us and the time
for evaluation is upon us. The weather didn’t cooperate
this year – it was so hot on Friday night but we still had
over 130 people participate in the 5k run or the one mile
walk or the Kids Fun Run. The Nevada PTA reported
that over 130 people attended “The Lego Movie” at
Central Elementary School and the Teen Dance reported
it was a success, too.
Saturday brought the rain! We received lots of
calls asking if the parade was still on or if the craft
vendors would be setting up! Rain or shine, Lincoln
Highway Days was held! By the start of the parade,
the rain stopped and the fun started. Sixth Street was
filled with families enjoying the sights and sounds of
Lincoln Highway Days. We had food and craft vendors
downtown along with the inflatables and the ZaGaZig
train at the Story County
Administration Building.
It was a great weekend
and I need to thank the
many volunteers and
sponsors who helped
make Lincoln Highway
Days possible.
The Lincoln Highway
Days committee is led
by Lisa McCoy. Other
committee members are:
Jon Augustus, Shawn
Cole, Janeen Driscoll,
Steve
Gray,
Linda
Griffith, Kyle Hansen,
Andy Kelly, and James
Stevens.
Volunteers
who helped with the
various events were:
Steve Skaggs, Tiffany
Wingert, Michelle Cassabaum, Kris Dugger, Laura
Kiesling, Shannon Hahn, Laura Bell, Don Hale, Shelley
Reed, Brett Barker, Diane White, and Barbara Howard.
Nevada is very lucky to have so many people who want
to see Lincoln Highway Days continue!
Of course, we couldn’t hold this great event without
our wonderful sponsors! This year’s Lincoln sponsors
were Burke Marketing and Story County Medical Center.
The Coast to Coast sponsors were State Bank and Trust,
ITC and NuCara Pharmacy. The Highway 30 sponsors
were: 21st Century Rehab, Accurate Auto Trim, Alliant
Energy, ALMCAO, Bacon Funeral Home, Casey’s
General Store, Draintech, DuPont Cellulosic Ethanol
Facility, Hertz Farm Management, Key Cooperative,
Nevada Lumber, Queen Anne Bed & Breakfast, Quirks
Grill & Bar, Sweet Dreams Mattress Center, The Talent
Factory, and Zearing Healthcare Center. The Trailblazer
sponsors were: Ben Franklin, Big 8 Tyre, Daniel Hobt,
First Class Signs, Good & Quick, Heltzer & Rhodes
Concrete Construction, KFJB & KIX 101.1, Liberty
Tree Advertising, McFarland Clinic, Midwest Insurance,
Nevada Bicentennial Chapter of ABWA, Nevada Rotary
Club, Nevada Family Chiropractic, Story Farm &
Home, TruBluDesign, and US Bank.
Feel free to share your ideas for Lincoln Highway
Days 2015 but be prepared to help! Brett Barker would
be glad to tell you how he visited me at the Chamber
office almost 2 years ago to talk about adding a 5k run to
LHD. Because of that visit, this was the second year of
the event and we went from 44 participants last year to
132 this year! Without volunteers, events like this can’t
happen.
It is another fun and busy summer in Nevada! Watch
the Nevada Journal and listen to KASI in Ames and
KFJB/KIX 101.1 in Marshalltown for upcoming events.
You can always call the Chamber at 382-6538 or visit
our website www.nevadaiowa.org if you need more
information.
